Are you using stretched canvas? Thanks beautiful work

Thank you! This is on a wood cradled panel. If you are using a 50% wax and 50% oil paint ratio it is necessary to have a solid surface. You can use a stretched canvas by changing the ratio to include 70% oil paint and 30% cold wax. I prefer more wax!

So you do this once the wax dries then you can use the solvent to scrape away?
Is there a way you get the wax to dry quicker so you're not waiting weeks to do the reduction technique? Thank you so much!

Hello Stephen, If the layers are dry it is harder to to do a reduction-in this case I was using a stronger solvent of d-limonene. You can apply a thin wet layer of cold wax and oil paint over a tacky surface (dry overnight) and then use Gamsol or odourless mineral spirits to do the reduction, No need to wait weeks, the cold wax causes the oil paint to dry much quicker and you can also add an alkyd gel like Galkyd to speed drying time. It can be a tricky technique to learn and takes some trial and error to get the hang of it. Hope that helps.
