I would like to know what degree in counseling is needed, whether its marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling or a M.S in counseling with a specialization in Marriage and Family therapy, I would really appreciate your help.

To work with children in a school setting, you can get a masters in school counseling. I’ve also seen social workers in similar roles. Better late than never. I hope this helps!

Kevin and Brooke, that depends on where you want to work and with what population. The bottom line is make sure the program is CACREP-accredited. I have my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. Dr. Sam Steen, who is one of my mentors and is the male counselor in this segment, is a professor in the Counseling program at George Mason University.
