When I was a kid I was terrified of snakes. I had a hard time even even touching photos of snakes. Didn’t matter if it was a tiny little garter snake or a copperhead I came across in the woods, they all terrified me.
The thing that changed my mind is when I was a teen I babysat a little boy. He had a pet ball python. At first I couldn’t even be in the same room with the snake because it scared me so much, but over time I was able to get closer and closer. And kept I seeing this 7-year-old little boy confidently pick up this large-ish snake, walk around the house with him, watch tv with him, do his homework with the snake hanging out on the couch, etc and it was so obvious how harmless this snake was. That it wasn’t this vicious monster just looking for an excuse to rip you apart.
When I got brave enough to hold Bob, I felt so proud of myself. And after that I started learning a lot more about snakes, especially local species and which ones were harmless to humans and which ones to steer clear of.
I’ve never owned one, but ball pythons will always hold a special place in my heart for getting me over my phobia.

If your looking into getting a snake I would definetly recommend a ball python I have one and I’m 11 I have no problem taking care of it but if your looking for a tiny one you can maybe get a spotted python he has some videos on them

When I was around 8 I was swimming with my little sister (she was 6 at the time) at a swimming hole near our house. We were having a great time until she went to jump off of a rock and 2 black snakes literally attacked her and then went flying off the rock with her when she jumped. I typically don't like using the term "attack" when it comes to animals, but that's exactly what happened. Had they just bit her and backed up, that would be one thing, but they actually came after her. It's still the scariest thing either of us have ever experienced. It took me a very long time to get over my fear of snakes after that. After learning so much about them, though, that fear just kind of went away, and now I absolutely love them. My sister however, can't even talk about about snakes still, and I can't blame her after what happened to her. Just watching it happen was horrifying enough. It is permanently burnt into my memory, so I know it was a lot worse for her. I would actually love to have a pet snake now, but my partner is also terrified of them, and my sister wouldn't come over to my house anymore, and she's far more important to me than some potential pet snake, lol. So, I leave them in the wild, and appreciate them as they are meant to be. I do have some that live in my back yard, though, that I've grown very fond of. I've even named them. My husband has no idea how many are actually back there, and unless he discovers them on his own, he never will know. He'd probably want to move if he ever found out, lol.

I definitely agree on the 'handleability' of the BTS - I have a *wild* Eastern BTS in my garden (I live in central Victoria, Australia), and despite still being entirely 'free range' (his home is in a tunnel under my driveway, and he still wanders off to hunt or whatever whenever he wants), he is also pretty much tame! I leave some food scraps out on occasion, and I can pick him up and hold him easily, without fear of being bitten at all (Easterns are definitely the best in that regard, just generally being more 'chill' than, say, northerns). He likes to sit on my shoulders and just watch the world go by. And the 'gold standard' of tameness - He'll go to sleep with me right there! For a "wild" animal, letting its guard down like that is a BIG deal!

Beardies can be skittish as babies but they’re great once they get comfortable with you. My little guy was very scared at first and would head bob and puff his beard but now after about a month of owning him he willingly crawls up my arm out of his enclosure and hangs out with me. He’s very inquisitive and fun to watch and even though he’s usually chill he’s pretty wild when he’s feeling energetic. I love to let him run around my room and explore. I also think they’re a great size. They’re impressive when they’re fully grown but not intimidating. I think anyone who doesn’t particularly care for reptiles could have their mind changed by meeting a bearded dragon. My parents were super skeptical but they love my beardie now

You hold a Ball python, a Boa holds you. I had to take a ride to the bank and stop for coffee but my Boa had just come out of her enclosure. She wrapped around my arm and enjoyed the ride, watching the world go by. The guy at the Tim Hortons drive thru was like "you take your snake out for coffee?". He thought the snake was the coolest thing. My 15 yr old son was with me in case the snake got scared or freaked out. She was great and seemed to enjoy all the sights and smells.
I was at petsmart, a lady was buying a leopard gecko. That little thing was acting like a Nile monitor hissing and biting the petsmart guy as he boxed it up.
Bearded dragons enjoy sitting on you but can get spooked and turn into a psycho quick.
My best animal for handling and being totally chill is my Savanah monitor. I raised him from a tiny baby, he's 5 yrs old and huge now. He doesn't fit the monitor stereotype. He thinks he's a human child. Just the coolest big lizard. But he don't like car rides.

This was great! I really need to meet a bearded dragon. I love how crested geckos feel, but they are fragile and can jump unexpectedly. I've never handled a Dumeril's boa, but I've handled all the others on your list, and agree they are very chill and cool to handle. Ball pythons are almost too chill for me sometimes!

Like you, I’d never heard of them before. I don’t consider myself a snake person, but these videos make me like them even more. I don’t know that I’ll ever get one, but I do at least like seeing and handling them occasionally.

Nobody ever talks about carpet pythons, but they’re super fun to handle! They hold on to you well, but are also active and love looking around, exploring their surroundings. 💕 Also, I’ve never had problems with them being nippy!

Rosy boas are great handling as they only get to 4 ft & are skinny. My daughter recently got a Murphy's patternless leopard gecko. He's so small he can move quite fast. Oh and he has used me as a personal toilet twice. Lol. But it is cheaper to feed him than all our 8 bettas, 4 mollies, 3 danios, African dwarf frog, 250+ mystery snails, 3 mice, & my 4 hermit crabs.

I love my ball python, I named her Priscilla after a week of debating on names because although she has the sweetest personality, she can be quite prissy. Some days, I take her out and she's super social, ready to explore. Other days, she stays in a ball the whole time I have her out! Love her

We have what I can only assume is a wild caught BTS because of how much attitude he has. I absolutely love your channel and was curious if you have any pointers for taming them. I feel like he will make an amazing reptile to handle when he warms up but we have had him for a while and haven't made much progress with taming him down.

I'd like to get a blue tongue skink or a Peter's Banded Skink.
Both are super handleable and docile-ish.
Plus the Peter's Banded Skinks have that awesome black and yellow stripe, bumble bee pattern going on.

  • @JoshuaWeirdo

Tortoises. You really don't handle them as in pick them up, but they are great to interact with. They'll eat right out of your hand, and they seem to enjoy being petted almost.
