  • Hailing from Japan and formed in 2013, Band-Maid has carved a unique niche in the music scene. Their sound blends the traditional aesthetics of Japan with a modern hard rock and heavy metal punch. The band, consisting of Miku Kobato on vocals and rhythm guitar, Kanami Tōno on lead guitar, Saiki on vocals, Akane on drums, and Misa on bass, has captured international attention with their electrifying performances and infectious energy.
"Moratorium," comes from their 2017 album "Just Bring It." This performance was on November 24, 2017, at Shinkiba Studio Coast.

The Shinkiba Studio Coast okiyuji had some truly legendary moments. If you’re looking for a music video/live performance double feature? “The non-fiction days” is the one. The music video is terrific. And you will wonder how in the world they would be able to pull it off live. At this particular show? They just bring it. (See what I did there 😊)

Thanks again for keeping the Maids on your radar. You are so right about them always surprising you. They are fearless songwriters, fueled primarily by our scruffy little genius, Kanami.
If you’re looking for an album to check out, you are spoiled with riches by Band Maid. 2017’s “Just Bring It” has about 8 tracks that they play at live performances. The first 3 tracks are: “Don’t you tell ME,” “Puzzle,” and “Moratorium!?”
2018’s “World Domination” I refer to as the Maids’ “Back in Black.” They debuted the new logo, new battle gear, and no less than 12 okiyuji-worthy songs.
This is the album that I think will bring you the most surprises. But whatever you choose, as long as it’s Band Maid, you’ll never be disappointed ❤

Thanks for the wonderful reaction. I love this song, and even after hearing it for the 100th time, it somehow never gets old. As for recommendations for songs to react to, pretty much anything from this Shinkiba Studio Coast show is worth reacting to - and that's no exaggeration - as the live audio quality is some of the best (if not the best) you'll find for the band. For this show, the band played their usual 25 song set, but unfortunately only about half the songs were released. This was a fertile period for the band when they were really finding their own sound and their talent was starting to go into overdrive. Personal favorites are Puzzle (the song that comes next after Moratorium), Awkward (personal top 10 for me), Matchless Gum, Daydreaming, Yolo, Alone, Real Existence, Take Me Higher, Play, Secret My Lips, The Non-Fiction Days. Even if you've already reacted to one of these songs in a different format, it's worth just checking the versions from this show for their excellent live audio quality, and for the bonus instrumental segments that the band adds to keep the live songs interesting for their fans. I am still amazed by how many truly great songs, even by 2017, the band had already created.

Once you hear Band-Maid, you'll take a Moratorium from all the other bands! 🤣🤘 Please note: I know you and your viewers will enjoy all the Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and 2018 ZEPP concert performances - about 50 songs! They hold some of the best songs and recordings of Band-Maid. (Found on YT, bili website, bandmaidprime, early reactor vids, and on CD's/DVD's). 2016-2018 was during Band-Maid's less progressive / more hard rock period and it's well worth experiencing! Thx, Glenn & Adrian!

Band-Maid is criminally underrated. I'm hoping "Bestie" makes it onto the radio and I also think they have to be collaborating with The Warning on something that will help them both break into the mainstream.

  • @etoineschrdlu9382

Band-Maid doesn't chew their cabbage twice. Remember their maid cafe motif: they call their concerts Okyu-ji, Japanese for "Servings", they're a meal! A Band-Maid show is very much a multi-course meal with multiple appetizers, entrees, and desserts, especially the deserts. You wouldn't think much of a restaurant that brought you a nice big juicy hamburger for all seven courses, would you? Sure, it's a great burger, but you want variety. Band-Maid provides variety with every song and an Okyu-ji set list provides hard rockers, power ballads, love songs, hate songs, anthems, songs of encouragement and inspiration.
The upshot is that you never know what to expect with Band-Maid. Will it be a high power anime theme? ...or a ode to lasting friendship? ...or song about the ups and downs of true love?

  • @madsstavang

Great reaction! Which album you should check out? It depends on which Band-Maid you enjoy most.
    - Just Bring It is their most "emo" album, with a bit heavier guitars.
    - World Domination is straight forward hard rock, no prisoners! Feels faster than Just Bring It.
    - Conqueror is probably their most versatile album. May be their most controversial album, in the sense that they brought in a lot of new sounds and took a couple of risks. Some people did not like the more slower/poppier songs on that album. I must admit that it was the album that took me the longest to get into, but now I absolutely love it.
    - Unseen World. If you enjoy hectic Band-Maid, this delivers in spades. Very prog-adjacent at times and requires full focus from the listener. Was the album that sold me on Band-Maid
    - Unleash. Their latest EP. A concentrated effort of high energy songs. Some see it as a continuation of Unseen World in terms of intensity.
Which album the fans like the most? They are all over the place! My top10 contain songs from all albums and you have only reacted to 1 of those songs 😁. The deep cuts is where Band-Maid is at!

Glenn and Adrian, I noticed withe the head-bobbing and the smiles that both of you really enjoyed this one. "Moratorium" is among the favorites of almost all Band-Maid fans. It's such a fun song that the audience can also sing along to that when they play at one of their concerts the energy picks up in the arena the rest of the night.

You could pick any album from 'Just Bring It' on, they all have different flavours. I would go with my narrow favourite ' Conqueror' which is the most varied - you've done Endless Story and Rinne so I would suggest Page, Wonderland, Glory, The Dragon Cries, Blooming and Bubble from that album as videos are available.

It's nice to see the Studio Coast version of Moratorium making an appearance on the reaction scene again. The Zepp version has being going a round a lot lately. It's good, but this version is better. I consider the most recent version of Moratorium from their 10th Anniversary spinoff show to be the best version now though. It would be great if they made it an official live video on their channel someday. As far as checking out parts of albums, anything from Just Bring It, World Domination, or Unseen World should fit the bill pretty well. 😁

Consider doing Brand New Maid. Only 8 tracks so not too long. All 8 tracks are excellent. Most have MV/Live videos. Has Alone, their first recorded band written song. Has Non Fiction Days, not band written, but arguably a template for the "Band Maid sound". Has Freedom, arguably their most fun song to perform.
