If you're still looking for a wall tent, check out Jay Legere's channel. His tent has been up 5 years in the Canadian wilderness and it's still going strong, keeps him warm at -40. He got it from the Wall Tent Shop.
Dang. Sorry about the tent. Since you're thinking of delaying the cabin build for a bit, I'm thinking maybe you could frame up a simple structure on your tent deck with some rough cut lumber. Sheet metal on roof and some rough cut 1x on the sides. Doesn't have to be fancy, but would get you by while you work on your infrastructure.
I'm from Maine and I do repairs on tents. I felt so bad when I saw all that leaking. I would think that if the company saw your video they would tell you to keep that one instead of going through the process of packing it and shipping it out and send you another one that hopefully doesn't leak. Best of luck to you. time to find out if you'll ever order from that company again.
Scotch guard, Brother! Literally have a Walmart tent I have used for 20 plus years for hunting that has never had one drop of water get through it. And I live in the South where rain is a part of hunting/camping. Make sure its dry and clean, literally just spray it on in sections. Do at least 2 coats. Keep driving on, love the videos and look forward to the progress.
I was just going to suggest scotch guard, too! I’ve used it on every tent I’ve ever had. I’ve also used a rain fly with every tent, even when the scotch guard did a great job making the tent material water-repellant.
One thing is 100% gracie loves you😂😂😂😂she is very persistant when she wants something.i loveeee watching you guys.makes me want a dog.❤they truly are good company
How could a company not be sure a tent this otherwise apparently well designed NOT LEAK! Hope you can get fair treatment from them, and power through the frustration. Love to Gracie
I enjoy watching your videos sometimes over again. I’m too old, and my husband has passed, to camp any more but when I watch your videos I can once again get a feel for the woods.
Man I know the feeling of taking a step forward just to take another step back. Life happens that way at times. I would look into White Duck wall tents, they just sell it all in one, not a bunch of options minus an extra rain fly. I own some of there canvas 18oz tarps and they have been great for the past 3 years. Best of luck in your search.
You should do some research on seasoning a canvas tent. "Tent seasoning refers to the process of soaking and drying an untreated canvas tent multiple times in order to make it water-resistant by encouraging the cotton fibers of the canvas to swell, sealing the seams and needlework." I hope this helps. I really enjoy your videos.
was wondering what I was going to watch on you tube tonight n bam!!!!!!!!!! there was your vdieo!! thank you for sharing with us and now back to the video
Thank you Cory for including us in this journey. The tent's performance was disgraceful actually - a very shoddy piece of work to have manufactured. And all the extra work as well as the disappointment. We all need stuff that we buy to just work, don't we? Anyway, one of the reasons I love watching your videos is to see how tidy and methodical you are. Tidy mind translates to tidy workspace and camp. Hope the tent works out alright with the company.
I love the sound of the rain on the tent. It takes me back to when I was a kid and the green canvas tent we used back then in the 50's. Our tent would leak also, and my mom and dad went crazy keeping the coxs away from the walls. Once you touched those walls when it rained it would keep leaking. Send the tent back! You used your hard earned money for it. Spend a little more if you have to for another "good" tent. Maybe a different brand. You never know you may have to go through the winter and you will need a good tent. Don't be hard on yourself. You did not know the tent would leak. The homestead looked good after you did a little housekeeping. I think the old owl will be flying over keeping an eye on you and Gracie.
I luv the fact you found a bullet in one of the trees you were milling!!! I worked for a tree company in the late 90’s and while taking trees down for the town of Rockland I was 80ft up cutting a leader off for the crane to take away and in the crotch of the two leaders in the HUGE Elm tree my saw started sparking where the chain was cutting. So we readjusted the sling and once we got it to the ground the crane operator and my supervisor hacked into the crotch exposing a CANNON Ball!!! Rowland is at the mouth of the Penobscot River so safe to assume 150yrs prior during some situation a boat fired for some reason or the fort across the river mouth did and that’s where it ended up. Really cool no matter how it got there but some of the things you find inside trees are truly amazing like a bullet!!!
Wow Cory, what a nice wood Mizer that your friend has! Hello Cory, I can't wait to see the wall tent up, so you can get started. Awe little wet Gracie! I just love that pup!! Cory, you're getting the rain, and we in Missouri need that rain so badly, it keeps by passing us!! or we get a little rain, but with the winds it dries it up fast. Awe Cory, that is horrible with the leaks in the tent! Praying that something will work out with this tent, and they will take care of this. We are seeing the leaks as your videoing it, so we see it firsthand. Cory, keep your chin up! remember God is still in control of all and sometime when things keep going downhill, we get discouraged I know I do. Keep looking up to the Lord even in these discouraging times. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. Praying for you Cory and Gracie.❤
Gracie just wants her daddy's attention at the wrong time, lol!! That would be very frustrating to have your brand new tent leak like that!! I hope it all gets straightened out soon. Take care and God Bless you and Gracie always
Love your shows. You and Gracie make a perfect pair. About the negative,no worries just let it roll off your back, and seriously the best of us know and can see that Miss Gracie is very well loved, fed ,and greatly taken care of. So unlike the young people today that don’t want to help them selves.I look forward to seeing you and Gracie on your adventures. Once the tent dries out get three or 4 cans of Camp Dry or other silcone spray and keep spraying the fabric. It will waterproof it. You'd be surprised how well that works.
I have 2 Kodiak canvas tents and have been happy with both. They suggest wetting them and letting them dry a few times before camping in them to tighten the weave of the duck canvas. This has worked for me. Haven said that I would just throw a tarp over the top for the summer. The reason being I wish i had done this with my first one. After a month of use in the spring with a lot of rain and pollen from the trees it got stained pretty bad. It still works fine but it would look a lot better now had I tarped it. Keep up the hard work.
I can remember that if you have a canvas wall tent it needs to be treated with waterproof spray and nothing should be touching it. When I was younger my neighbor would put his up every year and he would treated with spray outside and inside.
Corey I would highly recommend a Walton from Davis wall tents out of Denver Colorado I have used them on hunts with my son out there they are fantastic they're not cheap but the quality is unsurpassed like anything else you get what you pay for
Sorry about that in the comment I meant to say wall tent not Walton from Davis tent in Denver Colorado they are very high quality great tents but as I mentioned in the earlier comment not cheap but again you get what you pay for
A watch out on the stove tents. They have covers for the chimney pipe holes. Usually with velcro. Some its velcro on 4 sides that separates completely from the tent. Other velcro on 3 sides and stays attached to tent. Rolls down with straps. The 3 sides need monitoring. Over time wind loosens the straps and the flap blows and hits the stove pipe and catches fire. The 4 side removable one’s are better for long term use.
Every tent I have owned leaked at least somewhere. It is disturbing to say the least. Mostly the seams. That one of yours was a real leaker. I have always had canvas tents with no floors. I started treating them with a canvas sealer called “Canvak” after I let them weather some. I sprayed a hose on them for extended periods if no rain in forecast and let the sun hit them hard. They always shrink some after that. I them applied the Canvak. Had one for a hunting camp on a platform for 6 years prior to building my cabin. Treated her every 2 years with sealer. Still have her today after 20 years. It was from a tent maker in Alaska. Also have small one 6’x6’from same tent maker. It’s my back country brook trout tent that I take in with canoe. All the best. Good luck. Peace¥
I used some rough cut lumber from a local person to build my 2 wood sheds. I scorched the wood some with a big torch to help keep it preserved longer. Also, if the tent is leaking the company should go good for you, they can watch your video 😊
Uma pena que a barraca não foi o que vc esperava, mas tudo vaidar certo, não desanime mantenha o moral alto , obrigada por compartilhar, até o próximo video, fique bem deus o abençoe
I have 100 nights in my cheaper canvas tent, I use a white tarp (white lets the light in) from Cooke Custom Sewing in Minnesota, and my stove Jack/stove pipe goes out back wall, zero burn holes. That tarp makes even cheap tents 100% waterproof. That’s a nice looking tent you have now, interior frame, not too big for solo use, consider a good tarp.
I'd go with a tent from Wall Tent Shop. Someone already mentioned Jay Legere and his tent has held up well it appears from his videos. I have a Springbar canvas tent that I love but they don't make wall tents unfortunately.
@@TheMaineWoods I have something similar to the Springbar...a Kodiak Canvas 10 x 14. When I got it, the instructions stated the tent needed to be seasoned prior to use. So, I set it up in my back yard and hosed it down. Been using it for the past 5 years hunting in Michigan's UP and it has seen a bunch of rain, snow, ice and wind. It's never leaked a drop. With the amount of water that leaked in your setup, I doubt it was a few needle pinholes, though. I think you're right about the seams. Kodiak does make a couple of wall tents, but they're pricey.
Wonderful to see your video today... Gracie is , as always , adorable ! You two are a terrific team . Your friend's sawmill is amazing ...so many features . ..so good to have that network of talent and supplies . Stay safe , well and wise !
You’re doing a great job on that build site! Maybe try some sealant on that tent. You’ve had a lot of suggestions. Great looking lumber from Shane’s mill! Keep up the great work! Don’t get too discouraged about the tent. Hopefully they’ll make it right for you.
I've lived in a few different tents over the years, my favorite was a Nomadics 17' tepee it was great if you were staying put for a while but moving day was a ton of work. I sewed up a pyramid 10' X 10' with 2' side walls, stove jack, and sod cloth to hunt out of. It could be hung from a tree limb or use a center pole which in my part of the world was more practical. Lived in a 16' X 30' surplus tent in 5' of snow, it was ok if you were near the stove but anywhere else was like living in your freezer. A friend of mine has a Davis tent, I think it's 10' x 15, very nice tent. Recently I spotted a Roamin' Home tent sort of a modified "Baker" tent looked real practical for short stays. Anyway all these are true canvas tents that will drip a bit when new but once the canvas shrinks they tighten up very well. Really enjoy your content, and good to see both Gracie and yourself doing so well.
I’d like to chime in that Luke Nichols from Outdoor boys channel, he does a lot of tent camping in “weather” using a stove with pipe. He includes his equipment in his details. Good luck, you deserve it. Blessings
@@TheMaineWoods I watched an older video last night where he mentions he has a tent review video, I’m thinking you could at least note the brands & see if they carry the type & size you’d need😎
Hey buddy I have been using canvas tents for years and yes the first time they get wet they will leak but then the canvas when it drys it shrinks sealing up all the stitching from being manufactured your tent will not leak the second time around I promise you this! That’s why they tell you to wet it first before you use the tent!
Love seeing you and Gracie together. Anyone could look at the two of you and know that you both love each other very much. I admit your carpentry skills and your loving manner with Gracie. Wish I knew something about tents and camping but what I do know, wouldn't fill a thimble. There's no doubt that you are a hard worker and I wish more people were like you in that respect. May there be nothing but blessings from heaven for you and Gracie!
I have no experience with canvas tents, but I’ve looked into them some consideration of a future purchase. Directions were to set it up, and soak it to fully get the cloth to fill in and acclimate to a water proof state. This tent may not leak save for the seams the next time if rains. The seams will need treated. Ether way I hope the next one works out for you. Keep the videos coming. I look forward to them, and the progress.
Well that really sucks that the Tent leaks like that. Maybe include the video clip of the leaks when you make contact with them. Wishing you and Gracie all the best!
New subscriber here, really enjoying your videos. We have very similar interests and values, i build an off grid log cabin and my dogs and I love it there. I’ll be putting up a canvas wall tent later this summer also. Take care and God bless
Bummer about the tent Cory. I hope the company makes it right for you, like maybe come and pick it up so you don't have to pack it. I don't have any recommendations. There's got to be something that is decent quality out there. Hang in there!
Hey Cory! New tent with leaks That sucks ! You have bullet shot woods! Awesome! Keep up the Great work Mr 🇺🇲 👍🦌 It was a great winter for the Deer!! The Vermonter BS
i Love watching your Awesome videos. love how Gracie helps you. Sorry to see that your brand new wall tent leaked. have a Wicked Good night! GOD' Bless you always. Amen
Can't help with tent recommendations, however I agree that that is unexceptable having it leak right out of the box. Absolutely take the time to send it back. I can however keep you two in my prayers. Stay safe and I'll look forward to your next video. 🙏🙏
Hi, hang a tarpaulin above the tent for a quick fix, its cheaper and it works. We often stay in the bush when hunting and just put up a big tarpaulin and live under that for weeks. Cheers mate. Harera
The tent looks good. The bad part is that although when the leave the manufacturer they are technically "waterproof" they then sit for God only knows how long in shipping containers, trucks, warehouses, the outlet shelves. Waterproofing material is chemical based and will and does break down over time. Usually, one of the 1st things in the assembly instructions is to re-waterproof the seams before assembly. 'Tent Seam Seal' is an inexpensive product, tons on Amazon, and is applied easily with an included brush or a roll-on like deodorant. A tent that size will take maybe two hours to do and you may need to partially disassemble to get to all areas. Once the sealant dries you should have no problems though you may have to "re-do" some areas that need more or may have been missed. This would be better than the tarp idea for the summer for sure.
If tou are leaveing it set up all the time. get pool noodles glue to the cover out side so it vents bring it to the ground n tie it down , tent will last a lot longer n protect it from the ice
Two TH-cam Channels that have done a lot of Hot Tent living are "Bushradical & Girl in the woods". A husband and wife. I like there colme approach to life.
Also try channels from "Girl in the woods" . They've lived in wall tents over many years. And "The Outdoor gear review channel". He tests the gear and rates it's quality. Good luck! Nothing worse than getting soaked in your tent!
I noticed the tent is from vevor , made in China , I had some issues with vevor too with other products ,would not buy from them anymore , has o be made in USA brother !
Davis Wall Tent would be my first choice...made in Denver CO!! Used them all last summer May to Oct. in Maine while it rained every week and no leaks. The Wall Tent Shop tents are popular but are made in Pakistan.

Fully agree. I love Jay's channel and he is definiately the go to guy when it comes to wall tents
Yes,his tent has really stood up great
The ozark trail wall tents are actually pretty ok.

Excellent video Cory! I hope you find a good tent that keeps you and Gracie dry without breaking the bank! Good Luck!
Great video.
Leak is common so get a heavy duty tarp place over the tent is big help
White Duck Outdoors is supposed to be a pretty good brand wall tent.
You need a wall tent rain fly
Have always found canvas tents need wetting in to tighten up the seems and then use a good treatment, good luck 😎👊👍
I would agree with this comment. If tent is good it may be okay once it dries out after being wetted
Hey Cory! New tent with leaks That sucks !
You have bullet shot woods! Awesome! Keep up the Great work Mr 🇺🇲 👍🦌
It was a great winter for the
Deer!!
The Vermonter BS
Hi love watching your busy days
i Love watching your Awesome videos. love how Gracie helps you.
Look at the bright side it only leaks when it’s raining
best comment so far!
Most large tents that I ever bought. I needed to seal all the seams before using. Per manufacturing instructions. Just my 1/2 cent worth.
Hang in there!
Hi, hang a tarpaulin above the tent for a quick fix, its cheaper and it works. We often stay in the bush when hunting and just put up a big tarpaulin and live under that for weeks. Cheers mate. Harera
I hear you, that’s my last resort
Lots of comments, but I'll throw it out there. White Duck. My wife and I love our tent!!!!! It's the 10' diameter
Yes.throw a tarp over it.great idea
Awesome video hopefully things will turn around Gracie loves her Daddy
Do all four corners with the ropes and get tree branches off the roof
Definetly need a covering for tent. Tarp or a framed roof
Cabelas wall tents are great, check them out, they dont leak
I hope it has the best zipper possible! What did you think about the propane heater? How long does a gas can last?
Oh darn. I feel really bad about your tent.
🤷♂️
If tou are leaveing it set up all the time. get pool noodles glue to the cover out side so it vents bring it to the ground n tie it down , tent will last a lot longer n protect it from the ice
Stove jack out the wall is the best by the front door side wall
Two TH-cam Channels that have done a lot of Hot Tent living are "Bushradical & Girl in the woods". A husband and wife. I like there colme approach to life.
Love those guys
Also try channels from "Girl in the woods" . They've lived in wall tents over many years. And "The Outdoor gear review channel". He tests the gear and rates it's quality. Good luck! Nothing worse than getting soaked in your tent!
Sorry to hear about your tent leaking sure hope the company refunds your money or sends you another one. Keep your spirits up!
What a terrible mess with that tent. They shouldn't even make you send it back, your video says it all! Hope you find something reliable.
Don't know a lot about canvas tents, but I think they require a rain fly. A simple tarp might suffice.
More setbacks but you power thru!
Just use the tent platform and build a shed to stay in. Every cabin needs a good shed.
The Kodiak wall tent has a lifetime warranty on it and is treated with Hydra-Shield. And right now, it's on sale!
I saw that
tent probably needs to be seemed sealed.
I noticed the tent is from vevor , made in China , I had some issues with vevor too with other products ,would not buy from them anymore , has o be made in USA brother !
Kodiak Canvas...
Davis Wall Tent would be my first choice...made in Denver CO!! Used them all last summer May to Oct. in Maine while it rained every week and no leaks. The Wall Tent Shop tents are popular but are made in Pakistan.
Bummer on the tent. Hope the company comes thru to Resolve the issue
