Let's face it, a film that contains either dame Judy Dench or dame Maggie Smith in it is going to be good. A film that contains both of them is perfection. I love this film, it has a beautiful story and the music is amazing.
The name of the piece is "Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra by Boris Danilov" which was apparently written especially for the movie by Nigel Hess, who wrote all the other original music in the film.
I was 8 when i first saw the movie and this scene inspired me to learn the violin. I’m now 23 and still learning the violin. Hoping to be as good as many of the masters (you would think after 13 years I’d be great but nah i guess i don’t have that natural talent). Amazing movie and cast and soundtrack!
When I rented this movie from Netflix I never realized it was to become one of my all time favorite movies all the way around, through and through. I bought the DVD as well as the Soundtrack CD for my own collection (which is quite small). This last scene always bring tears to my eyes. Bravo!!!
A most beautiful and emotionally sad movie- I loved it and cried my heart out- the acting and music (Joshua Bell) were sublime- a favorite !!!! so so sad !!!!

Yes, that broke my heart and also made me happy that Ursula has at least a photo of the one she loved so much. Also, does anyone else think that when Ursula said to Janet, "Let's go Janet", that there was a tone in her voice, that even though she knew she and Andrea were not right for each other, that she doesn't like seeing him with another woman? I thought she did and liked it. It shows that she has no feelings of shame or feelings of being inappropriate because she loved someone younger than her.

I heard this on the car radio tonight and am overwhelmed at how this piece moved me; absolutely fabulous, I just love classical music but unfortunately can't play a note!
Absolutely love the Ladies in Lavender! I mainly imagine Joshua Bell actually playing the violin pieces. But more recently, I discovered 'The Alienist' ! What a pleasant surprise to find Daniel Bruhl in both movies!

Violin playing and body mechanisms is nearly impossible to fake both hands and right arm Never understood why violinists are not hired as actors. It’s prob easier to creat an actor of a violinist than vice versa
