"Floor cleaner, hospitals & unscented condoms"?🥺🥺🥺 Jeeeez! 😩 Now, you've nearly caused me a heart attack since Shalimar Philtre de Parfum is in my all-time top 5 fragrances ❤ But it's a kind of really accurate description if you can' stand it.😂 It's just sooo amazing how versatile noses and perceptions can be... (My most-hated frag is another widely admired one: J'adore EDP by Dior. God knows why, everyone loves it but it just make me sick, it's totally nauseant for me.) Super video, keep on Claire 😉
I'm sorry about my dislike of philtre. I really tried 🤣 I'm sure it must smell nicer on other people. Just like j'adore, I hate it on me, I have similar feelings about it to you, but on other people, it seems to smell quite nice somehow 🤷♀️ Thanks for watching ❤️
Casablanca was my scent of the day yesterday. I got 7 compliments. It's an absolute favorite of mine because of the sweetness. You have to love apple and sweet though. 😋
I hope this isn’t a strange question to ask, but I find your accent so soothing and calming and I know it’s Brittish, but I was wondering where from specifically? There are so many variations of English accents (be it from America, the UK, or otherwise) and I am just curious. I mostly watch for your articulate reviews and satisfying empties videos, but I also just like hearing you talk. I hope that’s not weird to hear!
Hi Katherine! Not at all 🙂 it's quite flattering 😉 I think I'm a mix. I'm from Cambridgeshire (East of England), but my dad is from Cheshire (near the top of Wales, but in England) and I live in Yorkshire (mid-North). I don't think my accent is that similar to any of the local ones where I've lived. I've also lived in Nottinghamshire (central England). It's definitely a Southern/ central accent, but it does have some words that make me sound more from Cambridgeshire than anywhere. So in conclusion, I have no idea 😂 I'm a mix. Whereabouts are you watching from and is that where you've always lived? Thank you for watching, I appreciate it. 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume Thank you for the detailed explanation! It’s so interesting how our accents can be blends. As for me, I live in Brooklyn, NY now, but I grew up in the south (Atlanta, GA) where they have these slow, drawling accents. I didn’t pick that up, because my mother is originally from upstate NY (not the usual New Yorker accent), but I suppose my accent is a little softer for having grown up in the south. No one is able to guess where I’m from though, so I would describe the way I pronounce things as kind of the standard “news broadcaster” accent, but softer, if that makes sense. When people say they “don’t have an accent,” it means they just think they sound regular to themselves, but I do think there is a kind of American English that isn’t particularly any strong flavor or another, if that makes sense. Side note, I’m so delighted to hear Brittish people’s impressions of American accents. We often sound like cowboys or old-timey New Yorkers, and conversely, it must be interesting to hear our impressions without all the nuance🤗
My brother has US citizenship so I do study US accents. He clearly has a huge US influence on his accent and it's a very odd mix 😂 I think the same, if someone says they don't have an accent, they just don't have a distinctive nameable one, but they do have an accent. I love that mid Atlantic English American 1950s accent, that is so distinctive to me and really something that you no longer hear much of.
Casablanca is one of my favourite but definitely not for everyone, this is why it’s nice to get decants !! I actually didn’t like it at first but by the time I tried it a few time and finished the decant I was craving to add it to my collection ❤
Casablanca is my caramel apple scent and I like it on its own but it’s fantastic layered with Khaltat Night which adds cherry and cinnamon to the mix and it’s amazing 🥰
I was so excited to try it, but I am sorry that I don't see the beauty of it. I really thought I would love it, I think I like every other Shay and blue I've tried... it is strong and it does last ages though!
Haha Yulia 🙈 I know so many people love Casablanca... I havent tried souffle, I feel like there must be a Shalimar for me though... There are so so many flankers!
I literally take notes on paper when I watch your videos, Claire ❣️ I love the way you describe perfumes. I purchased Scandal By Night after hearing you describe it as a sticky gourmand. I'm honestly surprised you don't have 1M+ subscribers; you are an amazing teacher.
Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts, Claire. Coffee Addict sounds wonderful. I think I would love Bubble Bath...I used to collect scented soaps. I still haven't got my nose on Casablanca.
Coffee addict is absolutely gorgeous! Wow soap collecting was a real early 90s thing wasn't it? I also had loads of those bath pearls 😂 don't listen to me with Casablanca, most people love it... I'm in a huge minority. 😂
Hi, Claire! So fascinating! I find Coffee Addict to be extremely sweet. It’s interesting because I have a real sweet tooth (unfortunately), and I don’t know if that makes me feel aware of the sweetness. I would have thought the opposite, that I would require more sweetness to detect it. I enjoy your wit, your sharing of fragrance memories, and having someone to share my love for fragrance. You are teaching me to have a little more patience with fragrance, not making an instant judgement and allowing the fragrance to develop. Thanks again, Claire!
It is sweet! I think my taste changed a little since this video, but yes I find it sweet too! I still didn't buy it 🤦♀️ I guess cos I keep sampling and wanting to try new things, in many ways, bottle for me are less exciting than sampling! Thank you! I am really happy that you enjoy my channel, that's so lovely! 🥰
I can’t stand Narciso for Her Edp or Lalibela too. I agree it opens with Patchouli and it’s more earthy. I don’t get coconut at all either. Not for me. Great video!❤
It's amazing, I thought that everyone loved NR for her EDP, but as soon as I said I didn't like it I've heard so many creators say the same thing, it's so reassuring that I'm not mad 😂 lalibela instantly made me think of NR, so sadly it's a no too. Thanks for watching ❤️
If you enjoyed Teisenddu you may like Panettone by Milano Fragranze. I tried a sample yesterday and fell in love. When I compared it to Teisenddu they had many similar characteristics. Panettone is slightly sweeter and fruitier. I won’t buy a bottle because I still have Teisenddu but I will enjoy using up the sample.
Ooh thank you for the recommendation! I saw someone on IG the other day talking about panettone and I thought it sounded gorgeous. I've only tried la Prima so far from Milano. Thanks for watching ❤️
“Unscented condoms” and dirty loo had me spitting my coffee while laughing. 🤣 Seriously though, the original vintage Shalimar is what my mom wore when I was a kid, and I love it. I haven’t tried the recent formula much less the Philtre flanker but I assume it’s not as good. I love the honest reviews, they are hard to do well, and no hiding behind “not for me”. Great 👍🏻
🤣 it was a clear hate! I do think Shalimar has changed significantly over the years from what I've heard. I've only tried it in the last year, so I can't compare formulations myself. Philtre was just a no instantaneously but I still ended up trying it several times, I clearly love to feel disgust 🤷♀️ 🤣 Thanks for watching 😘
This was a great video! I appreciate your descriptions of the perfumes you hate. Nothing worse than spraying a perfume and tasting nail polish remover or medicine!!
Yes! I am hesitant to say I hate stuff because I do like to really try stuff before I share my opinions and I don't ever want to offend anyone cos I know some of my hates are loved by others but yeah these ones were just no for me 🤣
Hello Claire, interesting that you mention 'tasting' fragrance. I had this experience for the first time yesterday with a fragrance I tried that was loaded with Ambroxan. It was so, so strong. Such a weird experience for me. I have tried the Cacao Porcelana and it was a like, I wish the performance of the fragrance was better for the price. All the Atelier Materi testers I have sampled smelled fairly natural and non offensive but not very projecting. You had quite a diverse collection of samples in your 5/5 video. It was enjoyable to hear your thoughts. - Jenn
Yes people have been super generous and sent me a lot of their collections to try. I've loved testing all of these. Tasting fragrance is really odd isn't it? Unexpected, but it shows you just how linked taste and smell are ☺️ and I get it with atelier materi. I'd not ever buy it, the pricing is crazy to be, but I did enjoy trying the sample because I'd not smelt anything like it and I did feel like it got where it was aiming for, which I found astounding. It's a bit like a piece of modern art in a way... 🙃
Love how subjective fragrances are ❤️, i can relate with you about how you feel on casa blanca, i dont have it, but i do have perfume here that i read many people enjoy it, i tried it many times but its not just for me. Great video 🙂
Yes, for sure, everyone's different and that is the beauty of fragrance. It's just difficult sometimes cos we all blind buy so we only have one person's view of things before we try them 🙈
For some reason i thought you'd already done this tag video, not sure what I'm thinking of. Lol Black Tulip was very disappointing, i remember being excited to try a while back because of that white chocolate, and also a Snowdrop note if I remember? I keep hearing about this Cacoa Porcelana. . I'll have to give it a try, it does sound intriguing for Autumn/ winter. Clean earthy sounds good 👍
Yes I think snowdrop is listed but I guess that's whatever a perfumer decides it is, and it really doesn't make me think of snowdrops 🤣 Cacao Porcelana is odd, without the rum it just wouldn't work. I don't think it's crowdpleasing. It makes me think of a modern clay pottery sculpture. 🤷♀️
Thank you, I'm normally polite but that fragrance was instant dislike 🤣 I've tried bright crystal and I'm not a fan either. I've never tried magie noire but I know that one is loved. Thanks for watching ❤️
I do have a very raw and eclectic collection 😁 There is something really sharp in Black Tulip. Not sure what it is… Very interesting how we experience scents… Lalibela is very soft and powdery sweet on me… 😮
Haha Paola ❤️ lovely to see you back! I think this video just reflects that you have sent me the most decants... So thank you for that. I don't know with lalibela, no one smells what I smell 🤣 maybe I have NR EDP paranoia 👀 I think black tulip is the only one of the Shay and blue fragrances that I dislike from what I've tested in store, but trying in store is not the same as sampling at all. I'm looking forward to wearing teisenddu at Christmas, I will smell fab! 😉
Thank you Claire, I appreciate your perceptions of each of these fragrances you've selected. Have you or would you purchase a full bottle of Jusbox Sirens and Sailors? Also, thank you for describing the green almond and hyacinth fragrance; I'm going to search for a sample!
Hello! I haven't bought a bottle of siren and sailors, but my friend has a bottle and has given me a very generous decant, so I do wear that. I actually wore it one day last weekend, I still love it and it's perfect for this time of year ❤️ Yes l'amandière is a beautiful one, I still didn't try more from James Heeley but that one was so good, I would love to! Thanks for watching 🥰
Hi Claire, i super love your hate and love fragrances ❤❤❤❤❤❤and i was excited to see some fragrances listed that are not so much mentioned by others. Casablanca definitely is a love or hate one and it does not work the same on each one of us. Same like you, i adore the opening of it, as well the middle part of it, however the dry down is something that i am still kind of mheehh with it, but testing it still, so maybe it will work better in a specific season and than will end up fully loving it 🤷♀
Yes, I think from what others have said, Casablanca is one that you can end up shifting your opinion on. I will keep trying my sample and see if my opinion changes too! Thank you for watching ❤️
Claire you absolutely nailed your description of Cacao Porcelana, that's exactly what it's like! And yes, I am in love 🥰 You're so sweet to include my offerings in his vid, and I'm really pleased you have enjoyed most of the samples I've sent. And it's nice to know you also appeciate the fragrances I love. I don't know how you will feel about the ones I passed on that didn't work for me 🙈 but it's all good fun and good to learn about other things even if they are not to our taste. I have also enjoyed virtually all the ones you have sent to me, you put in a lot of thought to send me things you think are to my taste! I think there was only Intense Cafe that I didn't like. The Gucci one too actually but only because I am super sensitive to the smell of cypriol, its all I can pick out when it's present. And I bought 2 of the frags from the first lot you sent. Loving this current bunch too 💜 And thank you again for saying I should start a channel. I know I tell you and Jon off for going on about it, but it's a nice feeling to think you would want to watch 🥰 Great video Claire, a real treat after my busy Saturday shift 🙌
We would watch for sure! We don't ever want to pressure you, but you know, starting a channel is super lonely and dare I say it, mentally hard, so if you do ever start, you have a ready made audience! ☺️ That first batch was getting a feel for your taste I think. I actually sometimes just want to try new brands to see what they're like. I know you can't judge on one fragrance, but with brands like montale, they all have that particular DNA from what I've smelt, that can be really informative to know about. I absolutely love sampling fragrances so I really appreciate everything that you send me and I have actually been enjoying red Queen! I wasn't sure to begin, but I've worn it a few times! I am shocked! The Sarah Baker fragrances are definitely a little challenging to me, but there was one that dried down quite nicely, I need to try them more though! Thanks for sending me such gorgeous fragrances to try! This video would be a little empty without you! ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume I didn't like Red Queen at all, but I liked the lighter 4160 scents (soz kept those to myself 😂) Jon got the other rose one. The Sarah Baker ones are too challenging for me, you both got a really challenging one each, Loudo for you and Bascule for Jon, the inspiration for which was something equestrian I think, which is why I thought it smelled like a horse's mouth perhaps 🙈😂 You know my taste already, I like interesting notes and combos, but understated, very much like you described Cacao Porcelana. I loved that you also found it casual, cuz I am definitely casual style in my appearance etc (not really ever left the student look behind) It's so nice of you to say such kind and encouraging words, esp around youtube. For now I am enjoying messing with instagram, but who knows, I might just get the bug and want to film something. And you're so welcome for any samples I send your way... I love to share what I love, and I also like to give things I don't love a chance with someone else, you know what we're both like, can't be doing with things being unused or going to waste 💗💗💗
@@ems_h.eartnotes yes! I hate stuff going unused. Samples are so easy to try a few times and forget about, good to pass them along. I'm looking forward to Jon's description of Bascule 🤣 seb hates Loudo and Red Queen! And yes I think I am getting to understand more what you like and what you don't... 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume and me you! We like a lot of the same vibes, but I feel you are much more adventurous than me. Especially when it comes to stronger ambers, ouds, rich roses. All I got in Loudo was the zoo-like, poopy oud and that cypriol. I couldn't detect the cherry, white choc, any of the florals. The notes listed just confuse me as to how they would ever combine to smell beautiful, but simple and quite the novice. Once there's more than like 8 notes, I just get lost trying to understand. Also, Nirvana Amethyst wore so beautifully on me today, lasted til I showered this evening, gorgeous. And Metal Wave yesterday, also lovely. I don't get the listed notes, I get a lot of smooth vanilla. It's a woody vanilla, reminds me of a softer, less spicy Whispers in the Library 🖤
@@ems_h.eartnotes yes! Metal wave is woody vanilla pencil shavings! It's pretty basic. And amethyst too, but just so lovely with the tobacco. I didn't look at the notes with the Sarah baker but the oud and animalics are unmistakable aren't they!!! So unashamedly in your face with those fragrances! I am still trying more animalic stuff. I am not sure how it will pan out 🤣
Loved this spin on the tag by using samples! Right now, my 2 fave samples are Hibiscus Mahajad (I LOVE and want this but tooo expensive) and Mojave Ghost (so simple). My 2 hates are Delina (another conspiracy here-why do people love this!?!) and CdG Concrete (I’ve never had a fragrance literally make me gag until this). Have a great rest of your Saturday!
I didn't try Delina, I only tried Melliora. That's pleasant, crowd pleasing but not justifying the price point for me. I just looked up that Maison Crivelli fragrance, ironically the same perfumer as Delina 😂 so strange isn't it? The notes sound like I'd like it, but yes, very pricey. to be honest, just the name concrete doesn't appeal to me. 🤣 Thanks for watching 😘
I put Nora in the bath when she is upset and it’s an instant happy face and fun time playing with bubbles and ducks Shalimar is not for me either but I still want to keep smelling it for some crazy reason It always amazes me when they put coconut in a fragrance with so many over powering notes 🤷♀️it’s just not going to come through IMO Loved this so much Hugs 🤗
Bath are so calming for children, water and toys are the perfect combination. Same with Shalimar, I keep trying it 🤣 hoping that I will suddenly love it... But I don't think that philtre flanker will ever be a love...
I get that rosabotanica is very soapy to begin with. It's overwhelming sometimes. But oh yes angel's share is 👌 a lovely fragrance. Thanks for watching 😘
Hahaha I loved the full-on description of the Shalimar flanker lol. I also do not like Shalimar-my best friend in college wore the EDT and I never liked it. I got one of the Montale sampler sets and so far I don’t like any of them. Something in all of them smells the same and is not for me.
I think it's the musk base they use. I was shocked when I first smelt intense café, it wasn't how I imagined at all! I've only tried 3 montales, but honey aoud is far and away the nicest that I've smelt so far, I still wouldn't buy it though. And thank goodness! So lovely to hear someone else who can't do Shalimar. I feel like the only person in the world sometimes who doesn't love it 😂
I just purchased Casablanca . I haven’t gotten it as yet. I don’t like apples either in fragrance so I hope I like this one. Thanks God it was inexpensive. Lol
Haha, I love Shay & Blue Black Tulip 😂 Warm and addictive imo. Long lasting and good projection like you say. Big compliment getter. Funny how fragrances are so subjective 🤭 xx
Love your lineup, Claire! 💖💖💖You’ve got some really cool and unique loves and hates! I do happen to love Shalimar Philtre and Sadel lol😂 totally understand why someone wouldn’t enjoy them though😊
Claire, I wonder if you would like Shalimar extrait de parfum. I understand what you mean about Shalimar but it is my mom’s signature scent so I love it. I have Shalimar Millesime Iris which I think is much smoother. I would be curious what you thought of other flankers. I heard Souffle was good as well and I wanted to try that one.
I haven't tried any more because my local Guerlain counter closed and I don't feel inclined to buy samples of Shalimar flankers, but if I come across any I will try them 😊 I have a lot of other Guerlain samples that I should get on and talk about actually! Someone was wearing a Shalimar at a conference I went to a few months back, the cloud of fragrance filled the auditorium 😂 it's very distinctive! 🥰
Hi Claire! Nice video. Really helpful too. Something I love, but I had to wear a few times for the love to come is Prada D'iris oillet. It's the carnation version. And I thought I'd enjoy all the flankers but this was the only one I really wanted to have. Something I hate is Amazing Grace by philosophy. I really tried to like this one and sprayed it a lot but no, too soapy and too strong. Ty. Have a good weekend 💙
I sprayed oeillet the other day in my local department store. I hate carnation so that was brave of me. I can see that carnation is challenging generally. I just think about my reaction to fragrances like eternity! I'm glad that you are getting on better with it now. I tried a few of the philosophy fragrances but none grabbed me enough to buy them. I keep seeing fresh cream being talked about a lot though. Thanks for watching ❤️
I'm glad you got to try oillet. Something about carnation is just good for me but I realize it's not for everyone. I don't like apple in fragrance either. Funny how many here like Casablanca. It was never tempting for me.
Talking about Shalimar, I did try to love her so hard. I bought at least seven mostly vintage versions of the original Shalimar (not flankers) that came out over the decades with the different style bottles, like the one that looks like a drop or the round with a bullseye sticker, several vintage mouse bats. I learned everything about the boxes to distinguish the different eras, etc. I simply could not believe there wasn't one for me, I even tried modern versions and also flankers like the Souffle, and that one didn’t have anything to do with Shalimar anymore. Even now, I haven't learned my lesson, and I am wondering if I would like the Shalimar Initial flanker. Do you know how it compares it with classic Shalimar?
Wow! You've tried a lot! I think I have still only tried this flanker and the original I think 🤔 I don't enjoy the original either but it's not a hate at all like Philtre was. My local Guerlain counter has closed sadly so I don't get to try much from them these days unless I buy samples. I haven't felt like buying Shalimar samples understandably 😂 thanks for watching 🥰
Great video Claire and thankyou for the tag I have a new camera coming so I will try and get round to doing this as soon as I get my head around yet more technology 🥰
I'm sorry Veronica. What have I done? 🤣 Honestly I think it's just me that smells that... Hopefully you can avoid ever thinking of Narciso for her EDP...
I don't think there's anything "wrong" with you not liking Shalimar:) Yes, it is famous, it is a classic -- it's on a par with Chanel No 5 (which I hate); they came out about the same time in the '20s. I loved Shalimar but developed a kind of sensitivity to heavy scents such as patchouli and very resinous woods. So I explored some of the Shalimar flankers and found that I could get my Shalimar "fix" safely with the Souffle Intense and Souffle De Lumiere.
I want to try more flankers because I've heard that philtre de parfum is quite different to the others and I actually do enjoy certain aspects of the original Shalimar so there might be one out there for me... Yes, I have the same feelings about Chanel no5. L'eau flanker is a much nicer fragrance to me. Thanks for watching ❤️
Hello Claire, you made me interested in L'Amandiere 😍 your description sounds so lovely 👌 Oh, Lalibela 😮😅 I have to compare it to Narciso For Her, didn't realize the similarity.
L'amandiere is gorgeous! So natural smelling. I think it's only me that smells that with lalibela... That's ok 🤣 I will keep trying it and see if I can unsmell Narciso Rodriguez for her EDP 😂
Great entertainment on my hike. Ok. I still can’t tell how you feel about Cacoa Porcelana. Every time I see a good review , I feel the need to blast my nose with a steroid aerosol I take for my allergies. Like clearly my nose isn’t working because all I get is dry unsweetened cocoa, dropped in the dirt which was then scooped up and put in an unglazed mortar . It’s dusty, chalky dirty…zero chocolate like you say. And to top it off…ridiculously expensive . Big no. 🥰your description of Teissendu is bang on and you pronounced it perfectly. I’m still wondering how you feel about Shalimar……..You weren’t very clear on that one. 😂and your bath soap story was adorable. 🥰
I get that cacao porcelana isn't for everyone, it's a bit spartan somehow, almost like something unloved and sad in a way. It's as you described, I guess it just appeals to some and not to others. I can't see it being a love for most people. It does make me think of an old empty packet of cocoa dusted truffles at the beginning. Haha Shalimar philtre is a most definite no 😂 Thanks for watching!
My feelings exactly re: Casablanca, Tropical Wood & Lalibela - initially I felt like something’s wrong with my nose because I don’t get why these were hyped!? But happy to learn that you share my sentiments 😅 Coffee Addict is a love for me, Bubble Bath - too basic for me but I don’t not like it. Shalimar - I like the Soufflé de Parfum only, the rest are 👎
Yes a few people have recommended souffle. I will try to find it to test... Tropical wood in particular for me was a huge struggle. Casablanca has some pleasant aspects but is so so sweet and synthetic. And lalibela is probably lovely if you like NR for her EDP. Coffee addict is 👌 thanks for watching ❤️
I'm currently wearing Shalimar and although I can't say I love it I really like it. On my skin it doesn't smell very strong, actually one of my colleagues said he liked it because it was light and he couldn't stand strong perfumes. My daughter on the other hand said it reminded her of a church. She probably smells some kind of incence in it and I also get it but unlike most people I like the smell of incence.
I thought I liked incense 🤔 maybe I don't like in combination with vanilla 🤷♀️ I haven't worked it out yet... I need to try more incense fragrances maybe? I think a lot of people love Shalimar, it wouldn't still be around if they didn't. It's a classic!
Frassai is great I have a fuego lento Teisenddu is great too for colder weather you pronounced it right is based on torta negra is an Angertinian dessert we do share the same feeling about the OG Shalimar but I do love the soufflés I love Lalibela 😂
Maybe I should try souffle flanker of Shalimar? A few people have said they like that one. And lalibela, it's definitely just me 🤣 I would love to try more from Frassai 🙂
Hi Claire, new subscriber here. Just going down the line of your videos. I I am truly enjoying how informative your videos are. I have always had a bottle or two of some fragrance on my vanity, but I’m really just getting into perfumes as far as learning the notes and being able to recognize the notes. Which I am not that good at. A Perfume that is very popular. If I am not mistaken, this fragrance was in every country’s top 10 list on your video. I truly dislike YSL Libre. because of its popularity, I tried it multiple times. It first smell like bug spray. The second time I tried it. The bug spray wasn’t as prominent. The third time I tried it I did not get bug spray, but I just don’t like it. The notes listed on a fragrance will really fool you. Keep coming with the informative videos. Thank you.
Hi Holly! Thank you and welcome 🥰 I get what you mean... I don't know how many times I tried la belle 😂 everyone loved it... I felt weird. Libre is one that I don't love either, I've also tried, I've got a sample.... but that's enough. I think with notes, give it time. I still have to read note listings and cross ref what I think I smell a lot. It's not obvious if it's a weird scent profile and with designer fragrances, it's often unlikely that many things will be that distinct. Comparison with other fragrances and finding patterns in scent profiles as a whole really helps too. Good to know you are watching and let me know if there's any topic you think I should be covering. I don't do everything but I do take suggestions ❤️ thanks so much for watching and for your comment 🥰 have a fab week!
I loved Matey Bubble bath! We always had the pink because it's the only one my sister would tolerate because it was least like sea water, or shark blood 🙄 😑😑😑. . Yes she was a hoot
🤣 wow! The problems of having close siblings. My brother is 22 years older than me, so was never in my bath. I also had a rollerball soap that I could draw on myself with ☺️ loved that!
Aaah I’m so glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t rate Casablanca, I had to declutter my bottle, it’s so weird because I didn’t pick up any apple in it but it just smelt sickly to me 😮
I get that it could smell like that because of that ambery musky vanilla thing, which when you mix with apple can smell a bit like sick. Like in Burberry body with the peach and wormwood that smells like apple to me. Some people smell baby sick... It's clearly a thing!
Hey Dr. Claire. Scents are truly subjective. I finally caved and picked up Casablanca. I will be gifting it to a friend who loves it. I love sniffing the original Shalimar but don't want it. It smells so different than what I remember as a young person. I don't know it it's a conspiracy or herd mentality driving some of these reviews. I just tune it all out and just follow my nose.
Bang on Faith! That's the way to go! I do think it's very much a thing on TH-cam, someone buys something, hypes it, then someone else buys it and feels like they can't say they don't enjoy it. 🤷♀️ It shouldn't ever be offensive to disagree as long as you are polite. Casablanca is a strange one, I've seen a lot of people love it and then declutter it. And Shalimar is on paper, something I should absolutely love, but sadly I just don't. 🤣
hey claire! how do u get ur samples? i love perfume, but some of these more niche frags aren't v accessible to me, and i def don't want to commit to buying before smelling 😵💫
Hi Zoha! I know what you mean, some of these perfumes are very expensive. These samples were kindly sent to me by the creators listed in the description box and mentioned in the video. But you can buy samples from most fragrance houses and they often give you credit against a future purchase. I often also see free sample offers spring up on Instagram and I also see a lot of sample sets on eBay, so those might be more affordable ways to try different things. As for Shay and Blue, those fragrances are stocked in Marks and Spencer stores so you can try their entire range there! Thanks for watching. ❤️
Isnt that ironic? 🤣 Well you are in good company, 4.42 on Fragrantica would tell me my opinion is not most other people's. I think spending so much time wearing latex gloves has definitely given me some kind of complex 😂
I'm am curious about rogue, but there's something that's always stopped me from buying it. People compare to Gucci Rush and I'm not head over heels with that one... I do actually like Fleur musc from trying it in store, but I guess that doesn't mean that I would enjoy a bottle of it. You really can't tell at all with fragrance. Sometimes stuff can ever smell different when you get it home buying it in store 🤷♀️ thanks for watching 😘
I can’t wear the Narcisso. Lalibela is a love for me. So interesting that you get that fragrance + Allure. I’m curious if it’s the same fragrance in the decant 😂 Do you get incense?
I get very mild incense when I first spray it but it fades quickly. It's interesting you say that though, because with Sana Jardin tiger by her side, I tried a sample from Paola, then I got an official sample and they did smell quite different. Maybe there had been a some reformulation with that though?
Not sure, I think Paola would use a new vial. If it were someone I didn't know, I'd maybe think that was possible but not with Paola. It is really odd though 🤷♀️ tiger by her side did smell very different...
Well in that case it could be... I would think you'd need to soak any vial in ethanol several times to get rid of the previous fragrance. I bet it's quite a faff! 🙂
I think tulip is a fantasy note, but I don't really get anything from it that makes me think of tulip. Haha, yes this one isn't for me but I know lots of people love it. 🙂
Shalimar smells very unpleasant to me too i guess my brain doesn't register some of the notes as pleasant and other peoples do.... i think the old fomulations had animalic notes and nowadays they are probably using synthetic molecules but animalic notes really smells fecal sometimes...
I agree, I really struggle with certain notes that some people seem to just love. E.g. powdery amber, plasticky patchouli, powdery peach, apple, apple blossom and even powdery plum. I've only tried the modern Shalimar but it was nowhere near as musky and animalic as I was expecting, and yes, for sure it will have been reformulated a number of time since it's creation. It's probably quite far from the original fragrance now! Thanks for watching ❤️
Great video Claire . 👏 I'm confused though , didn't you say you were tagging me to do a video about Frgrances i love to smell on my Wife and Fragrances she loves to smell on me ? My Wife's been trying to figure out which Fragrances she was going to pick . 🤣
Haha, oh sorry, no I was just suggesting that as a video idea that might be interesting because of what you said in the your last video. Sorry for the confusion! I'm sure that will be a lovely video too though!
@@dr.claire.perfume 🤣 Oh i really misinterpreted your comment then didn't i , that's the video i've been planning to record !! 🤦♂️ Thanks for the tag anyway , no way i'll be able to do 5 hates though cos i think i've only ever smelt 2 Fragrances that i actually hate !! I'll keep thinking on it but my video will probably have to be a little shorter than yours if that's ok Claire ? 👍
@@2plus2equalsfragrance52 no worries Grant, whatever and however you want to do. No need to do it at all. Just so what you planned! Big apologies again!
@@dr.claire.perfume No need to apologise Claire , just a case of crossed wires !! I will do the tag it's no problem , you were kind enough to tag me so i'll definitely do it . There will just be more loves than hates !! 🤣👍
These are not necessarily bad, these are just my perceptions and opinions on these. People have different tastes and we are all fine to have different opinions. Many people love Philtre for example. It's all just smelly water at the end of the day 😊 I didn't try tonka or iris millessime. My local Guerlain counter shut down sadly and I didn't bother to get samples. Thanks for watching 🥰
The fragrance I hate the most is Arizona by Proenza Shouler, it really smells like vomiting, secondly I hate Womanity by Mugler it smells like old fish 😭
I didn't try the first one, but I did finish my bottle of Womanity. I do understand why people don't like it though. I won't repurchase it as I haven't tried the reformulated version so wouldn't know what it smells like in its most recent incarnation 😊
Sorry about that but I can't use a microphone with my phone as they aren't compatible... I thought when I bought a new model last year it would be compatible but nope, Moto still haven't sorted the issue, I've tried, but it doesn't work. I don't earn affiliate income etc from this so I use the equipment that I have already, I don't have a separate camera... Last month I bought a £1100 laptop to edit TH-cam videos with so my money available to spend on anything else for a while is limited. I also live in a 100 year old house on a busy road, so there will be background noise from outside that I can't control. I would recommend watching somewhere quiet where you can have the volume lower or using subtitles and not using headphones. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching 🥰
@@dr.claire.perfume I never knew that they have this option 😹😹 A few years back when I was in Amsterdam I bought my friends Cannabis flavored ones as a novelty 🤷♀
Yes! Fab detective work 🕵️♀️I thought about this too... I think I like quite gentle leather, less raw and actually the killer combo is something dry, hot, or with that fuzzy violet. Cooler leathers, boozy leathers... 😍 Yes! I really enjoyed some of the memo Paris leathers I tried too. What about you? Do you like leather in fragrances?
I tried with Casablanca I can’t do it it smells just like diet apple juice 🧃 oooh so many I haven’t heard of and strangely enough I always want to sample the hates lol love your memory with the replica ❤️
It's artificially sweet isn't it? Im not a fan. I know lots of people love it though, reassuring that I'm not the only one in the world who doesn't like it... Well keep away from tropical wood, you won't like that one, the others, I'm not sure. It might just be me! Thanks for watching Sunny. Are you feeling better? ❤️
I’m planning on wearing it today as it’s cold here 🥶 I love it
I have nothing to say ladies 🤣 I know some people love it! I bet it smells good on you both. I think I would appreciate it if it wasn't on me.
@@dr.claire.perfume 🤣🤣🤣
All this talk of Casablanca makes me want to wear mine today 😆🥰
I love how you described bubble bath with the coconut. I need to try this one.
It's very very literal. I was shocked by how accurate it was!
Casablanca is one of my favourite but definitely not for everyone, this is why it’s nice to get decants !! I actually didn’t like it at first but by the time I tried it a few time and finished the decant I was craving to add it to my collection ❤
It took me a while to warm up to it as well
Ok, I tried it 4 times so far, I will try it again and see how I go... Good tips ladies ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume I’m wearing it today but only do 2 sprays one on each wrist ! It’s so delish 🤗
Casablanca is my caramel apple scent and I like it on its own but it’s fantastic layered with Khaltat Night which adds cherry and cinnamon to the mix and it’s amazing 🥰
@@sweetsimpleslowlife2709 I will try that layering combo and see how it goes. Khaltat night is beautiful 😍
Shay & Blue Black tulip is one of my faves! I even have back up bottle, its gorgeous and lasts ages.
I was so excited to try it, but I am sorry that I don't see the beauty of it. I really thought I would love it, I think I like every other Shay and blue I've tried... it is strong and it does last ages though!
Big 👍🏻 as always. You hate one of my favorites Casablanca 😊. Have you tried Shalimar Souffle?
Haha Yulia 🙈 I know so many people love Casablanca... I havent tried souffle, I feel like there must be a Shalimar for me though... There are so so many flankers!
I literally take notes on paper when I watch your videos, Claire ❣️ I love the way you describe perfumes. I purchased Scandal By Night after hearing you describe it as a sticky gourmand. I'm honestly surprised you don't have 1M+ subscribers; you are an amazing teacher.
Thank you Laurel. I hope you are enjoying Scandal by Night. You too, you do such beautiful makeup looks and such thorough reviews! ❤️
Tiessenddu is so amazing around the winter holidays. Your description is so spot on! ❤
Yes that's a stunning fragrance! ❤️
@@dr.claire.perfume Sometimes I think vintage perfume memories are best left in the past. 😄 Love your channel.

The way you described 'Teisenddu'... Now I need to try it!
That one is delicious 😋 and the transition to the leather is striking!
This was a great video! I appreciate your descriptions of the perfumes you hate. Nothing worse than spraying a perfume and tasting nail polish remover or medicine!!
Yes! I am hesitant to say I hate stuff because I do like to really try stuff before I share my opinions and I don't ever want to offend anyone cos I know some of my hates are loved by others but yeah these ones were just no for me 🤣
Hello Claire,
interesting that you mention 'tasting' fragrance.
Hello beautiful Claire! I have Cacao Porcelaina on my wishlist. It sounds so lovely ❤️😍
It's very odd! I haven't smelt anything else like that. It makes me think of a modern art pottery sculpture 🤣
Lol
Black Tulip was very disappointing, i remember being excited to try a while back because of that white chocolate, and also a Snowdrop note if I remember?
I keep hearing about this Cacoa Porcelana. . I'll have to give it a try, it does sound intriguing for Autumn/ winter. Clean earthy sounds good 👍
Yes I think snowdrop is listed but I guess that's whatever a perfumer decides it is, and it really doesn't make me think of snowdrops 🤣
Cacao Porcelana is odd, without the rum it just wouldn't work. I don't think it's crowdpleasing. It makes me think of a modern clay pottery sculpture. 🤷♀️
love: lancome magie noire; hate: versace bright crystal. your shalimar philtre de parfum description was hilarious!
Thank you, I'm normally polite but that fragrance was instant dislike 🤣 I've tried bright crystal and I'm not a fan either. I've never tried magie noire but I know that one is loved. Thanks for watching ❤️
I haven't heard of so many of these but I feel like I want to try some of your favourites! Happy Saturday! x
Thanks for watching, enjoy your weekend! ❤️
I do have a very raw and eclectic collection 😁
There is something really sharp in Black Tulip. Not sure what it is…
Very interesting how we experience scents… Lalibela is very soft and powdery sweet on me… 😮
Haha Paola ❤️ lovely to see you back! I think this video just reflects that you have sent me the most decants... So thank you for that.
I don't know with lalibela, no one smells what I smell 🤣 maybe I have NR EDP paranoia 👀
I think black tulip is the only one of the Shay and blue fragrances that I dislike from what I've tested in store, but trying in store is not the same as sampling at all.
I actually wore it one day last weekend, I still love it and it's perfect for this time of year ❤️
Yes l'amandière is a beautiful one, I still didn't try more from James Heeley but that one was so good, I would love to!
Great video as always.
Thank you ❤️
I have none of those fragrances 😢I need to purchase some of these fragrances. Thank you for sharing beautiful 😍
Thanks for watching 😘 have a lovely weekend!
Claire you absolutely nailed your description of Cacao Porcelana, that's exactly what it's like! And yes, I am in love 🥰
You're so sweet to include my offerings in his vid, and I'm really pleased you have enjoyed most of the samples I've sent. Loving this current bunch too 💜
And thank you again for saying I should start a channel. I know I tell you and Jon off for going on about it, but it's a nice feeling to think you would want to watch 🥰
Great video Claire, a real treat after my busy Saturday shift 🙌
We would watch for sure! We don't ever want to pressure you, but you know, starting a channel is super lonely and dare I say it, mentally hard, so if you do ever start, you have a ready made audience! ☺️
That first batch was getting a feel for your taste I think.
The Sarah Baker ones are too challenging for me, you both got a really challenging one each, Loudo for you and Bascule for Jon, the inspiration for which was something equestrian I think, which is why I thought it smelled like a horse's mouth perhaps 🙈😂
You know my taste already, I like interesting notes and combos, but understated, very much like you described Cacao Porcelana. I loved that you also found it casual, cuz I am definitely casual style in my appearance etc (not really ever left the student look behind)
It's so nice of you to say such kind and encouraging words, esp around youtube.
I put Nora in the bath when she is upset and it’s an instant happy face and fun time playing with bubbles and ducks
Shalimar is not for me either but I still want to keep smelling it for some crazy reason
It always amazes me when they put coconut in a fragrance with so many over powering notes 🤷♀️it’s just not going to come through IMO
Loved this so much

Bath are so calming for children, water and toys are the perfect combination. Same with Shalimar, I keep trying it 🤣 hoping that I will suddenly love it... But I don't think that philtre flanker will ever be a love...
I love Killian's Angel's Share! I detest Balenciaga's Rosabotanica except for its dry down. But i just can't hold on until its dry down. No siree.
Lol
😂 good luck! You will probably like it, most people seem to. I think I'm the exception 🙃
Haha, I love Shay & Blue Black Tulip 😂 Warm and addictive imo. Long lasting and good projection like you say. Big compliment getter. Funny how fragrances are so subjective 🤭 xx
I know! I was so expecting to love it! Just not for me, but I bet I would enjoy smelling it on someone else.
Love your lineup, Claire! 💖💖💖You’ve got some really cool and unique loves and hates! I do happen to love Shalimar Philtre and Sadel lol😂 totally understand why someone wouldn’t enjoy them though😊

Great video Claire.
Thank you 💕
Casablanca was so hyped two years ago, but I never wanted to buy it.
The fragrance I love the MOST is Coco Mademoiselle Intense♥️🔥💎💎♥️
Yes Coco mademoiselle intense and even the Eau privée are extremely pretty! 🥰
I always get excited for a new Claire Smith video 📸!!!
Thank you! That's so sweet! 🥰
Hi Claire!
@@dr.claire.perfume I see that too and that's another one I hate, lol.
I'm glad you got to try oillet. Something about carnation is just good for me but I realize it's not for everyone. I don't like apple in fragrance either. Funny how many here like Casablanca. It was never tempting for me.
@@Tina-wi7we yes, apple, apple blossom etc is something I've learnt to avoid, especially with amber / vanilla...
Theodoros Kalotinis Coffee Addict sounds so good. It could help me on sleepy mornings to quickly wake up 😂

The Lalibela comparison to the Narciso... wow! I'll never not smell it that way now! 😮
I'm sorry Veronica. What have I done? 🤣 Honestly I think it's just me that smells that... Hopefully you can avoid ever thinking of Narciso for her EDP...
@@dr.claire.perfume 🤣🤣🤣
Hello Claire, you made me interested in L'Amandiere 😍 your description sounds so lovely 👌
Oh, Lalibela 😮😅 I have to compare it to Narciso For Her, didn't realize the similarity.
L'amandiere is gorgeous! So natural smelling.
I think it's only me that smells that with lalibela... That's ok 🤣 I will keep trying it and see if I can unsmell Narciso Rodriguez for her EDP 😂
Glad you like the bubble bath by Replica 😊
Yes it's got some link with childhood for me somehow!
Haha Shalimar philtre is a most definite no 😂
Thanks for watching!
My feelings exactly re: Casablanca, Tropical Wood & Lalibela - initially I felt like something’s wrong with my nose because I don’t get why these were hyped!? But happy to learn that you share my sentiments 😅
Coffee Addict is a love for me, Bubble Bath - too basic for me but I don’t not like it.
@@dr.claire.perfume i thought something was wrong with me that I couldn’t find Shalimar charm neither Chanel 5 but every nose is a world on its own 😉
This is so true!
One I love, Love Versace Eros Pour Femme and for the loathe😆, Jlo Glow, the original 😩🙅♀️
I tried Glow ages and ages ago, but I wasn't keen either... I need to try Eros pour femme, is that the one that smells of gummy bears?
Aaah I’m so glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t rate Casablanca, I had to declutter my bottle, it’s so weird because I didn’t pick up any apple in it but it just smelt sickly to me 😮
I get that it could smell like that because of that ambery musky vanilla thing, which when you mix with apple can smell a bit like sick. Like in Burberry body with the peach and wormwood that smells like apple to me. Some people smell baby sick... It's clearly a thing!
Is there a conspiracy on the reviews? 😂 Sometimes I feel that way too. When there are rave reviews and I hate it, I wonder if I'm broken. 🥴😩🥺
I do think that when I hate something... Like Narciso for her EDP, I thought everyone loved that one and I was so surprised to hate it 🤷♀️
No you are not broken because I haven’t jumped on the PDM Delina or the MFK Baccarat Rouge band wagon. They just don’t do it for me.
Vero, you are not broken. Like Claire said, we love what we love 😉😆😍
@@sweetsimpleslowlife2709 thank you, dear😘😘😘
Hey Dr.
I liked Casablanca for a bit and then couldn’t stand it. Decluttered it last year.
I think that's how a lot of people have felt about it. I get that the beginning is pleasing but it gets annoying quickly for me.
hey claire! how do u get ur samples? i love perfume, but some of these more niche frags aren't v accessible to me, and i def don't want to commit to buying before smelling 😵💫
It sounds like I'd really enjoy Flash floor cleaner! 😆
🤣 maybe! 🤷♀️ It's clearly just me from that Fragrantica score 👀
Watching Claire!!! Let’s see what you hate 😆🙌😆🙌🙌🙌
Hello 👋 thanks for watching ❤️
The only one that I know from the ones you mentioned is Philtre de Parfum, and actually it is the only one that I like from the Shalimar line :).
Isnt that ironic? 🤣 Well you are in good company, 4.42 on Fragrantica would tell me my opinion is not most other people's. I think spending so much time wearing latex gloves has definitely given me some kind of complex 😂
I tried to love Rogue by Rihanna. Could not. I also tried Narciso fleur musc. Blind buys are the devil.
I love your list and take on 5 I love and 5 I hate
Thank you 💞
I can’t wear the Narcisso.
@@dr.claire.perfume many people reuse decants and sometimes the fragrance which was there before lingers.
Not sure, I think Paola would use a new vial. If it were someone I didn't know, I'd maybe think that was possible but not with Paola. It is really odd though 🤷♀️ tiger by her side did smell very different...
@@dr.claire.perfume oh no,it’s not a bad thing. Many do that for recycling purposes. It’s not to be tricky or anything.
Well in that case it could be... I would think you'd need to soak any vial in ethanol several times to get rid of the previous fragrance. I bet it's quite a faff! 🙂
Here to hear😊
Hi Maude! 🙂
Omg I have to close my ears to the dissing of shalimar!!!haHahahaha
🤣 sorry! I have tried hard to find something to love... I am going to try some more flankers. There must be one for me, there are so so many 🤣
Oh, I don't have any fragrances with tulip in them. Shay & Blue Black Tulip sounds intriguing. Too bad is not love from you
I think tulip is a fantasy note, but I don't really get anything from it that makes me think of tulip. Haha, yes this one isn't for me but I know lots of people love it. 🙂
I just found you thanks to the perfume est new subscriber ❤
Oh Chris is fab ❤️ thank you! And I also subbed. ☺️
@@dr.claire.perfume thanks a lot !!😍
Hello gorgeous Claire here watching
Hey Pat 🥰
I want Casablanca so bad. I also want to sample honey aoud.
I think you'd like Casablanca, it's just too sweet and too much apple for me, and you'd definitely like Honey Aoud, assuming that you like cinnamon!
@@dr.claire.perfume I agree. I will buy casablanca and sample honey aoud.
👍 good plan
@@2plus2equalsfragrance52 that's lovely though! No problem with that 👍
I literally just sprayed coffee addict minutes before watching!
It's gorgeous isn't it?! A total stunner! ❤️
Montale Tropical Wood sounds really bad 😁 I dont like Shalimar Philtre, but I have high hopes for the iris and tonka millessime.
I've also had a collection of soaps as a child😸😸
I think it was a very early 90s thing. Shaped soaps were everywhere! A definite trend!
@@dr.claire.perfume Oh yeah, the early signs of a budding fragrance addiction😹😹
@@silverliningfragrance1434 probably was, I never thought of it like that! 😂
Good Morning beautiful!!!
Hey Tera! ❤️
Good morning sweetie ❤
Hey Frances! ❤️
Cacao Porcelana is not for everybody. Lots of patchouli here.
Yes, I agree that it's not going to be a love for the majority of people.
I adore Claire Smith but the static in the auditory part is unnerving.
Tropical Wood sounds gross!
Casablanca is my baby but you do have to like apple to like it.
Yeah, don't try tropical wood 😂 I think me not really liking apple is major hurdle to loving Casablanca too...
Unscented condoms😹😹 are they scented?
The joy of a blueberry one! 🤣 Definitely my favourite 🤣
@@dr.claire.perfume I never knew that they have this option 😹😹 A few years back when I was in Amsterdam I bought my friends Cannabis flavored ones as a novelty 🤷♀
@@silverliningfragrance1434 wow! I never even saw those!!! 🤣
Just an observation, but Paola sent you fragrances with leather notes and you hate them, so perhaps you don’t care for the leather scent?🤔
@@dr.claire.perfume yes, I do like leather and suede notes in fragrances. Some of my favorite perfumes with these notes are Black Perfecto and Rogue 😍
Hello dear claire nice enerji my love bravo You're always amazing in your time my dear I'm in love with you
Thank you! 🥰
