that is actually on the cheaper end of some of the serving spoons I had to buy when I was in fine dining. I have a sushi knife that is almost 3300 dollars. I have a serving spoon set that was almost 100 dollars. The metal of a utensil can effect the flavor of the food you are serving or tasting. Developing a well honed pallet is essential to a chef. If you can't disect the flavor, mouth feel, and texture of a dish because the residual flavor of a cheap metal spoon disrupts experience, it is harder to perfect it and make it consistently in a professional setting. Sterling silver spoons are the best for serving and tasting because they impart the least amount of metal flavor onto the food. Also, in fine dining there are a shit ton of different serving and plating utensils to make food into art. I never in my life used off-set tweezers more than when I was working as a Garde Manger. (French word for keeper of the pantry. It was the apps, salads, and desserts station). In a chef's eye, that spoon's design eliminates a multitude of other kitchen tools that would otherwise clog up a chef's culinary tool box. In a professional setting, the quality of your tools matters in creating art that is both visual and tasteful.
If you like baking spending that much is never a problem since it help more than it hurt. Having a tool that do multiple tolls' job is worth no matter the purpose after all as long as using such tool do not cost too much in term of proficency
You just showed me something we Filipinos would loooove to have! For us, that edge would function perfectly for cutting meat which is something we already do...but this one ups the way it works!

@@luisa146 from what I saw, stainless steel (even food grade) does impart some flavor and alters flavor. Probably so small that it doesn't matter for a home cook lol
@ihalia I think it's more because gold has antimicrobial/antibacterial properties which helps when everyone is taking eucharist from the same spoon without being cleaned in between each person. It could also be because the spoon comes in direct contact with the body of Christ. Or it's just for aesthetic reasons lol I'm not quite sure.
Gdi, you've sold me... I need this damn thing... I work almost exclusively in tablespoons anyway, because I can eyeball fractions of it, but being able to scrape jars and pour finicky liquids is basically everything I ever want out of a measuring spoon.
I mean, it’s a cooking spoon. It’s meant as a kitchen tool rather than an eating implement. Like, a set of measuring spoons are technically just spoons on a ring, but nobody would use them to eat.
My problem with spoons with thin handles is it's so hard to hold, it twists and you have to hold it tighter. But well I havent used this exact one yet so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt..
lets just ignore the fact thats its 100$ for one spoon in japan because they are made "in japan" exclusively so they can sell them to americans for 25$ per spoon + shipping and tax. lol
Those mass made Chinese factory spoons people get off Amazon aren’t exactly one tablespoon in measurement even though they are technically a table-spoon.
@@frankreichert3144 I do all the time. But I want my table spoons and tea spoons to also be a tablespoon and teaspoon in volume, instead of just a big spoon and little spoon used for eating. It’s about minimalism and functionality in the kitchen for me when it comes to basic recipes.
I'm a sucker for any kind of cutlery or utensil with zero decoration/embossing. As my home-ec teacher explained years ago, every etch or groove is just another place for tiny specs of dirt/bacteria to hide out!

korean style spoons are my favorite, the long handle makes it easier for me to eat (i have carpal tunnel) & the basin isnt super curved so it's perfect for scraping rice or sauces .. i do save a long silver spoon with a teeny basin for sweets though ^_^

3rd stage interview: sell me this spoon 😂
lmfaoo
I never thought I would ever be impressed by a spoon. This is amazing. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
So this must be what it feels like to successfully reinvent the wheel
You just showed me something we Filipinos would loooove to have! For us, that edge would function perfectly for cutting meat which is something we already do...but this one ups the way it works!
Now if only there's a design to keep the spoon from bending when you're scooping cold rice from the cooker.
OMG!!! That is SOO True. I had dinner in Luzon and asked for a dinner knife, and then... Silence around the table.... LOL
Thanks for posting the link where to buy this spoon. Appreciate the extra effort you put into this for us all.
No problem!
love that it has no spots or edges where dirt and bacteria can gather but Id like a handle thats a bit more spacious or grippy
No. For stirring, mixing, thinner is better
spoon: 😒
spoon but japan: 😍😩😫💦💦🤑
Now plate it with gold and it also becomes a tasting spoon. For those unaware gold does not affect or impart a flavor in tasting and some professional tasters swear by them
My stainless steel cutlery doesn't impart any flavor to my food that I'm aware of
@@luisa146 from what I saw, stainless steel (even food grade) does impart some flavor and alters flavor. Probably so small that it doesn't matter for a home cook lol
is that why they have gold spoons in churches?
@ihalia I think it's more because gold has antimicrobial/antibacterial properties which helps when everyone is taking eucharist from the same spoon without being cleaned in between each person. It could also be because the spoon comes in direct contact with the body of Christ. Or it's just for aesthetic reasons lol I'm not quite sure.
@@luisa146 Utensils have a metallic taste to me which is why I prefer wooden utensils.
Finally, a spoon that you can use as a canoe paddle in an emergency.
Someone actually reinvented the spoon!! and it's actually awesome!
glad you like it!
I have a set of gestura spoons for a couple years now love them!
How did I ever get through the last 55 years of my life without this friggin spoon?
Same way our grandparents got through life without a vacuum.
Before I watched video I would have said I have enough spoons... now I want a bunch of these.
Love it!
Gdi, you've sold me... I need this damn thing... I work almost exclusively in tablespoons anyway, because I can eyeball fractions of it, but being able to scrape jars and pour finicky liquids is basically everything I ever want out of a measuring spoon.
Nascar winning the owner's championship with the pace car
It's a spoon with a manufacturing defect that got popular
Spoon 2 just came out
Still at fork 1.98
This video makes me happy, and now I 100% NEED this spoon that I never even knew existed! Well done!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
$25 for one spoon is quite expensive, and that's not including tax and shipping fees.
Who the hell uncircumcised my spoon!
😂
We got spoon 2 before GTA 6
i was convinced when he said hand made in japan. it doesnt get any more perfect than that.
The best!
So no “fumbling” with measuring spoons, unless you need a teaspoon or a fraction of a teaspoon or tablespoon measured accurately.
yeah that made part made no sense!! how do you replace several measuring spoons with one spoon that has one measurement 🙄
Impressive, let’s see Paul Allen’s spoon
We got spoon 2 before gta 6...😢
Now I want to see if they also have hi-tec chopsticks
well they're not quite chopsticks, but Gestura sells some great tweezers for chefs too
They made them. They're called drumsticks for some reason
Temu:"write that down! WRITE THAT DOWN NOW"
I was supposed to be studying but here I am watching a short on about a spoon 😢
Was waiting for the quenelle scoop
yeah doesn't looks like it's good for quenelles? so it's not perfect.
one of the earlier comments was actually the first time i heard the word quenelle 😅
Has anyone used it for quenelles? How does it perform?
How does it feel in the mouth tho. Is it good for eating
right, I feel the edge would be weird in the mouth.
I mean, it’s a cooking spoon. It’s meant as a kitchen tool rather than an eating implement. Like, a set of measuring spoons are technically just spoons on a ring, but nobody would use them to eat.
MOUTH FEEL
This is what happens when you accidently mis-stamp a "dud' and it turns out to be your best product yet.
😂
Bruh ngl that's what I had in mind. like without the explanations, it rly looks like an incomplete dud.
That's it, I need a break. I'm getting mad at a fucking perfect spoon video.
They say he carved it himself... From a bigger spoon
Id end up poking my eye out with that spoon
LOL love that reference
My problem with spoons with thin handles is it's so hard to hold, it twists and you have to hold it tighter. But well I havent used this exact one yet so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt..
Got £32 to spare to experiment?
I have a tablespoon, what I am really in the market for is a matching set of 4 chairspoons.
😂
Just wait a few weeks, and they'll come out with a version which will take the place of all five spoons👍
Bro I’m getting old getting interested in a spoon rather than games 😭😭😭
One thing i admire from japan is that that not only do they create things that are aesthetically pleasing but have functionality to it.
lets just ignore the fact thats its 100$ for one spoon in japan because they are made "in japan" exclusively so they can sell them to americans for 25$ per spoon + shipping and tax. lol
This tablespoon is exactly one tablespoon. Makes sense. All my tablespoons are.
Those mass made Chinese factory spoons people get off Amazon aren’t exactly one tablespoon in measurement even though they are technically a table-spoon.
@@joiningjal2145 no recipe needs to be that accurate, it's a table spoon
@@jimmyc00l you’d be surprised
@@joiningjal2145Then use a scale for measuring, so you don’t have to deal with spoons, cups and other dumbfoolery.
Sweet now lets 3d print one
Do it!
Where can I get this without you getting a kickback?
On their site. Just look up Gestura Silver Spoon.
Wow. Bit of a d!ck move, don’t you think?
This is what real Design is about
I'm a sucker for any kind of cutlery or utensil with zero decoration/embossing. As my home-ec teacher explained years ago, every etch or groove is just another place for tiny specs of dirt/bacteria to hide out!
good point!
But everything is so boring nowadays and we have dishwashers. I'm always looking for something that doesn't look like ikea and it's harder than you think.
@@smallbeginning2 lol. Horses for courses as my dad would say. Thrifting might be a good option for more ornate cutlery? I've never had a dishwasher, (50 years old) but also love clean lines on most objects I own. I agree some can look mass produced, but some like the spoon shown are beautiful to me, and more so when functionality has been considered.🥰
That is why I hate butter knives.
@@wolfspeaker100 lol. Definitely want more context for your butter knives disdain 🙂
New subscriber your content is amazing keep it up ❤
Thank you! Will do!
But does it fit nicely in your mouth? What about the weight? And length? Is it comfortable to hold?
Yeah! Is it perfectly balanced? It doesn't look like it. Perhaps they need a redesign.
@@catladyfromky4142 Its a kitchen spoon not a dining spoon. Thats why you see chefs rating it.
korean style spoons are my favorite, the long handle makes it easier for me to eat (i have carpal tunnel) & the basin isnt super curved so it's perfect for scraping rice or sauces .. i do save a long silver spoon with a teeny basin for sweets though ^_^
aww man its $32 bucks here for 1. i just can.t
Still tempting, if you cook a lot this is an easy sell.
I got it for like $20, and it's nice and all, but sometimes I think what an idiot I am for paying $20 for a spoon. I just go into denial and say that it's not a spoon, but a kitchen device instead. No way I'd pay a cent over what I paid for it though.
I'm learning more and more how detailed and interesting the kitchen is. And now add another item to the wish list.
And it's $25. For a single spoon. That price makes it the opposite of perfect.
then don’t buy it
@@august_build Wasn't planning to.
@@Zanian19 👍
You just forgot to mention the most important feature of this spoon. Because it has such an edge built, it becomes easy to fill it with rice or any such thing which sometimes get difficult to lift with the spoon.
Good one, do you provide this for Indians?
When exactly did something being crafted in Japan become a selling point
My chef-fy brain just died and went to heaven. I thought I had seen it all after a dedicated quenelle spoon. 😍😍😍
I got given one of these two years ago for Christmas and it is one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.
love it!
the pouring and scraping is actually so hype
Got me over here looking at this like Patrick Bateman checking out business cards.
I took one look at that spoon and it sent shivers down my spine. That flat edge? The curve? Stunning. Effervescent.
This reminds me of the pan that has no designs whatsover but is still preferred by many chefs as it better than the competitir brands
I was going to go into the comments and say how you could use just a regular spoon instead of being extra.. but now I want the damn fancy spoon
I imagine that Leonardo DiCaprio tell him menacingly: *_Sell me this spoon_*
I’m still a sucker for my Gray Kunz spoons. They carried me through culinary school and beyond. I have been wanting to get a Lady Hamilton.
It's just a thoughtfully shaped spoon, why isn't everyone doing spoons like this if it's the best?
🤷🏻♂️
Now getting interested in this type of content which eases kitchen work. Entered family oriented space.
Welcome!
The scooping from jars had me sold...i need it
Never would I have believed I would watch a short video about a spoon and immediately want to have one.
