    This was running on a 1980s computer enough said
    Also TV sets back in the day because of the crummy video cameras that required a crazy amount of lighting we're also uncomfortably hot and here's hoping the computer that ran the bonus game was far away from the set in a nice cool location
    Another thing I've always wondered is if they ever had any major problems with the complex computer system that was required to run the Press Your Luck Big board as it wasn't just the cursor on the computer but also the computer or computers that changed the prizes and money displayed on the individual screens
    But you have to give these game shows credit for daring to use what was state-of-the-art technology back in the day

      periodically some of the slides would not show up, like it would be a dark spot on the board, but the "selector" on the board that jumps around I haven't seen any real problems with that. There were a few other bloopers on the set such as the "spins" sign breaking, and one contestant breaking the button to stop the board.

    One thing I've always wondered is how Trebek talked Mark Goodson and Merv Griffin into letting him host this? Obviously Mark Goodson Productions and Merv Griffin Enterprises were rival companies. In most jobs, huge conflict of interest.

    • @marcpower4167
      @marcpower4167 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No real conflicts here, Jeopardy was airing at night, Classic Concentration was during the day. Unless Alex signed some sort of exclusive deal with either then he would be free to do that. The networks might have an issue with it.
      For instance, Back when Bob Barker was about to retire they actually approached Tom Bergeron at first he didn't think he could because he was doing dancing with the stars on ABC, but turns out they only locked him up for prime time. Regardless, he turned it down because of scheduling concerns.

    • @c3po626

      The contestant is required to match pairs of car names on the board, within the time frame that is set on the clock. Normally base time is 35 seconds, but it grows by 5 seconds each time a car isn't won. But because of a technical hiccup with the board system, an incorrect match was accepted screwing up the bonus game. So they let her have two choices continue as is, they fix the error and give her 5 extra seconds of time on the clock. Or she starts with a new bonus board and full time again, she chose the 5 extra seconds and continued as normal. But the thing is, the timer is manually armed, and it didn't start when her first resuming pick happened. But here their backup clock kicked in and was at 12 seconds once they said stop, after noticing the main one broke. So they opted since the bonus game failed twice, to give her the last matching car that was up on the board due to this happening two times. Though most of the time the bonus game rarely fails like this, it's only ever hiccuped twice on a contestant.

    • @wschmrdr
      @wschmrdr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They've had operator error more than twice, usually opening the wrong door. When that happens, they stop, close the wrong door, open the correct door, add 5 seconds because of the rhythm you get into when playing, and start again with the next call.
      I assume they offered the brand new game because of the stop down which could have caused the memory to go, and had that been chosen, we'd never know this had specifically happened.
