The drummer was in a car wreck, he fell partly out, and the car ended up crushing his arm, as he was lying in the hospital room, recovering from losing his arm, to show what great friends they were, they told him don't worry about it, you figure out how to do it, we will wait for you.

I was at the concert where this video was filmed. Great show at McNichols Arena in Denver. They played the full show then explained what was going to happen. Band took a break while crew set up to film, then they came out and played the song and shot the video. Great memory.

Following the extremely successful tour for the Pyromania album, Rick Allen returned with Def Leppard to the UK with an American Corvette he bought. During an accident, the car flipped and rolled. Taking Rick Allen's arm. Joe Elliot refused to leave Rick Allen behind. Rick taught himself to play drums again. Redesigning the layout and the foot peddles so he could jam out.
When Def Leppard returned to tour for their Hysteria album. The band was met with people with signs telling Def Leppard to drop Rick Allen. Because the fans thought Rick Allen couldn't play with just 1 arm.
During concerts Steve, Phil, and Rick Savage would go below the round stage to cool off. Leaving Joe Elliot & Rick Allen up on the stage to keep the fans hyped and entertained. It was during those times that Joe Elliot gave Rick Allen his nickname. "The Thunder God". Because he was drumming like every other drummer out there, that had both arms. Minus Neal Peart. Who no one will ever match.
Back in 1987, this is exactly what we listened too. Hysteria shook the rafters.
Def Leppard re-wrote the rules back in the 70s. And they still are re-writing the rules.
Yes, this old gas bag still cranks Def Leppard just as loud as my Blaupunkt stereo system will allow.
WonderMommaOG, thank you for doing this video. Memory lane, cruisin' on my Goldwing.

Another banger in the books Momma. What a perfect way to continue the 4th of July weekend. For those of us who are old enough to remember how Rick Allen lost his arm and to see the reactors faces seeing a one-armed drummer is awesome, also, loved your behind the scenes clips of how you put together your masterpieces. I know you prob get a lot of requests for songs to put in a compilation vid, but if you ever do Def Leppard again, I'd love to see songs from their Pyromania album. Keep rockin and have a great weekend.

I saw them on my 18th birthday @ the Veterans Memorial Coliseum (aka the Madhouse on McDowell) w/ Tesla opening. I'll never forget the way they opened the show w/ a curtain up surrounding the band while they started "Stagefright" & then it came down as they were halfway into the 1st verse. Then I was just mesmerized by Rick Allen's playing. It's a challenging song to play with 2 good arms, but he only had 1 yet he never missed a beat; not even during the fast parts. His comeback was heroic. Every1 had the right reaction to him here, but we fans knew back then he was going to be fine.

Def Leppard is Jim Abbot's favourite band. No? I remember that New Year's 1984, waking up and hearing that Allen had lost his arm. Still have the Times of London article in my scrapbook. Next thing you know, he's getting busted for beating his wife. Yeah. With one arm. So, for those who were sick of "Still of the Night" we have the uber-bouncy "Pour Some Sugar On Me". Somebody tell #Mr.Video that it's not actual sugar, babe. (Kids are so literal these days.) And as always on display, Momma's inimitable ability to pick just the right moments to help you burnish the memory of this old classic. It's nice to be 24 again, even for just a few minutes. RIP Clarke. Thanks, #Momma!

Richard John Cyril Allen (Rick Allen) is an English drummer who has played for the hard rock band Def Leppard since 1978. He overcame the amputation of his left arm in January 1985 and continued to play with the band, which went on to its most commercially successful phase. He is known as "The Thunder God" by fans.

Hysteria is one of only a few albums for which I have dedicated Spotify lists. It is still my favorite album of all time (though as a band, they get edged from the top spot by Pink Floyd). I wore out three copies of this cassette, and two copies of the CD I owned will not load in any spot. And the album art was tattoo number 15, and covers my entire left calf.

Rick was sitting so quietly and all alone. I thought how lonely he looked so I went over to say hi. He was so sweet and so shy. He was gracious to sign an autograph for me and I have it to this day. If you want to know what determination is then it's definition is Rick Allen. He was so determined to rejoin the band he had a drum kit specially made so he could play with is feet the parts he played with his missing arm(lost after a car accident look up the story). AT first they brought in a second drummer to help out and at one gig he was late and joined in during the set and they didn't know he wasn't there. He told that band after the gig "You don't need me". Def Leppard are a great band with all that has happened during their career. RIP to Steve Clark(guitarist with long blond hair). This song helped kickstart the album Hysteria into the stratosphere.

I used to listen to Pyromania and Hysteria over and over in the late 80s and early 90s. Hysteria is one of the best albums from the 80s, period. The whole album was a perfectly produced weapon of chart destruction. Listening to just one song off that album is a crime. It demands that you listen to it in its entirety. Which I’ll be doing later this weekend.

Fun fact Momma, I mentioned how I was there at the Omni in Atlanta for "Wild Side"by Motley Crue, also I was there for this video also. Denver and Atlanta is where all the video content was recorded. Atlanta had 3 concerts to Denver's 2, both enclosed inside venues. Of course, great concert!

As always, great job WMOG! Introduced to Def Leppard in 1981 with their 'High 'n' Dry' album, I got to see them for the first time on their 'Pyromania' tour in 1983. The following album 'Hysteria' had so many radio friendly hits that it propelled them into the stratosphere!
This song was absolutely HUGE and fun fact: is the most played song in strip clubs around the U.S. (probably globally too) still to this day! It's also another show I saw at the Tacoma Dome in 1987 while stationed at McChord AFB. The cool thing Def Leppard did during this tour was they set up their stage 'in the round' (as seen in the video), and that was novel concept for arena rock back then.

When they played in Phoenix the arena wasn't setup for that which Joe Elliot commented on. He followed it up w/ "but we're gonna make the f---kin special effects work anyway."

Def Leppard has certain songs that I like but otherwise I've never been a big fan of theirs. Photograph and Foolin' are my two favorite songs from them. But again Rick Allen gets my respect.
