The book of unwritten tales 2 is on PSN. No idea if there's a physical edition but it was free on plus a few years back. I gave it a try and found it to have an aimed at kids in a way that just feels irritating as an adult. Totally see your point on niche collectors going for Devils Third.
Overall good video. Came here after the 360 video, both very interesting and good perspective. I've been a long time collector as well but i haven't been keeping up with the market so it's good to have a couple contemporary videos to catch up with.
The book of unwritten tales 2 actually has a physical release on PS4, Xbox one, and switch currently. When I was looking for the Wii U version, I already owned the Xbox version in my collection, which I bought for five dollars, so it was killing me that this one was going to cost me so much to get a physical copy to complete the Wii U set. Luckily, I found one at a random game store in the middle of nowhere for $15 about a year ago.
I’m shocked at how few people ever bring up Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for Wii U. The Wii U version has exclusive Nintendo costumes and entire exclusive modes. I could definitely see it being sought after by hardcore Tekken fans and fighting game enthusiasts. I’m not even a big Tekken guy yet I still bought it for the novelty
No one has played that online since 2013. It is not used competitively. There's no reason it will ever be sought after. The Madcatz Fightstick, on the other hand, goes for over $400 when -- about once a year -- one shows up on eBay.
I bought a Wii U back in 2019 for a really good price and since then i've been having alot of fun collecting for it. I managed to get all the games I wanted while GameStop was selling off all their PS3/360/Wii/Wii U stock. I managed to get Shovel Knight, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Mighty No 9 for under 10 dollars each.
Not getting Game & Wario for cheap when I had the chance has gotta be one of my biggest collecting regrets. Even worse is when I DID get Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, but the disc was defective and they didn’t have any other copies available so I had to swap it for something else. I did get Color Splash for a like ten bucks though, so at least I got that 😂
I feel Yoshi’s Wooly World should be on your “exclusives” list. It’s on 3DS but a significant graphical downgrade & co-op was removed, so not the same experience as the typical Switch ports.
Book of Unwritten Tales is expensive because several members of the Wii / Wii U North America collecting group on facebook colluded together to scalp that title. I thought most people knew this.
I remember when scalpers went nuts with Devil's Third, then the re-print happened. Wonder if those fools who held out for so long are demanding top dollar?
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Had a 3ds release too but the Wii U version is already pretty expensive. I know this game can be hard to find I think it had a low print run. Great video, more deep dives.
Man, this video is making me sad and happy all at once! I am like 90+ games in for my complete Wii U collection, and boy did some of these games get expensive! I have slowed down my buying the last year or so, I think i may need to get to buying some of these games I need! But man, the games I do have are spiking too! Thats always nice when that happens! I love Nintendo Land. One of my favourite group games. It is simple enough to play with my non gamer friends whilst not giving a seasoned gamer "the edge". It also uses the gamepad really well. Mario Chase and Lugis mansion mini games are a highlight. Many hours giggling like children with my grown ass man friends!
The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 does have a physical console port on the PS4 and is dirt cheap. I remember seeing it in a store once and was surprised it made it to that as I had played the digital version on the PS3 a few years ago but it’s one of those rare unknown titles. I think it was a crowdfunded thing possibly.
I picked up two copies of Book of Unwritten Tales 2 at a used game store for $20 each. I hoped to sell one for $60 (the price on Price Charting at the time) and keep the other. By the time I got it on eBay it sold for $225. 😮
I got a hacked Wii U on Etsy some years back with a 2TB HD that has tons of Wii U games on it. But, my actual collection I'm only really missing the Tekken port and Devil's Third as games I'd probably get if I saw them. I have everything else I could want.
I 100% agree that Twilight Princess and Wind Waker are very likely getting a Switch version. I think Paper Mario Color Splash might get a Switch re-release. I still find it odds that Xenoblade Chronicles X is still not on the Switch. Every other entry is on the Switch now.
Hey fan that saw you many years ago and gave you the Wall-E PS2 game here...., I remember I believe it was 2017 or 2018 at black friday @ Target unwritten tales it was like five or ten dollars sealed and there were hundreds of them because everybody else wanted you know basically anything else we you was on its way out and there were hundreds of these sealed games with little blue stickers on them denoting the cheapest price which was like seven or eight dollars..... if only I could go back in time but I also think it was crazy because when I saw this game Spike up I hardly ever see it for a literal Bargain Bin Black Friday title. Almost feel like someone sitting on a lot of them somewhere in a warehouse somewhere. What happened to all those unsold copies on that Black Friday?

6:39 FYI there is in fact a PS4/Xbox One port and even a Switch port of "The Book of Unwritten Tales 2" (at least in PAL territories). The Switch version is listed for 17,99 € new ($ 19,28) and even the PS4/Xbo One version is only around 20 € new (~ $ 22). As all three platforms are region free (unlike the Wii U), I guess the price will for sure go down, because only collectors will go for this version now. Quite interesting seeing this list, as in Europe prices for the Wii U are not that bad compared to US prices. A shame, that this console is one of the last consoles to be region locked.
I really enjoyed this video. I like getting these kind of deep dive informative videos from someone that actually plays games! I think years down the road that maybe Rodea the Sky Soldier will be a sought-after title as well.

If Wind Waker and Twilight Princess do NOT get Switch ports, and they may never get them, then you WANT to own both because both will skyrocket into the hundreds as some of the rarer quality Zelda games ever made. You really want to take the chance? Even if there is a Switch port, there isn't that much downside risk. But upside risk is HUGE.
The only collection I have completed was the North American WiiU set. Very fun system to collect for…. My wife and I loved the WiiU from the get go. It’s definitely sad most people slept on it during its relevancy.
I bought a Wii u at launch and the only game I bought extra was zombie u. I have no regrets, I loved it. It was an awesome experience with the game pad. I wasn't planning to collect for the Wii U but I've been running into games while out hunting and picking up some on the cheap. Only 12 games so far but I think I'm going to more actively collect for it now.
hey Pete. there was a local old school video game shop where i live but unfortunately it went out of business. it was called mero games. i used to purchase things there, really cool store. and it was also cool because they fit it into like a small corner space in the building structure, so it was like somewhat low-key looking Lol... thanks for all your content, I'm not a huge gamer but i am subscribed to you nonetheless !
Ah didn’t know they ported it already. I guess the list I looked at was a bit wrong (it said it was Wii U and PC only). In this case the print run on this game must be so low that it is only selling to complemtionist WiiU collectors. I forsee the price continuing to decline over time since it will only target people going for full collections, which will surely be limited as time goes on.
I think something important to note, that not many people have really pointed out is the gamepad usage. The games on the Wii U are unique due to the way they use the gamepad and even ports to the Switch have shown. Just because it was ported doesn't make the port better due to how weird the Wii U is with the gamepad. Some games such as Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 are better on Wii U even though they have Switch ports. I also think its crazy that Wind Waker on Gamecube is more expensive than the Wii U version right now.

It's an interesting conversation to fly on the wall around people. The way I see it is that today you got a selection of games that are going for $70 and in time will eventually come down. Occasionally, you get Xenoblade Chronicles, the Messenger, or UnMetal instances that absolutely suck, but that's just it is going into the digital only era. It's frustrating to see businesses like Limited Run that seem to be anti-consumer. I don't know if whoever is printing for them only offers them so many or they don't want to end up with back stock but, who knows but I would dare say I wouldn't sell ANYTHING at this point because physical media IS on the way out and I'm willing to bet the next Nintendo console is going to be digital only, PS5 Pro is not going to have a disc drive just as we've heard the Xbox Series X Cylinder model isn't going to have a disc drive either so, as a collector, yeah, you may see a newer version of some Wii U games, but not much longer and if you do, it's NOT gonna be physical media. To my original point, though, the way I see it is that I was willing to spend $60-70 on a game, what in my backlog do I still want? My list of games is narrowing. At the time I got DEVILS THIRD, it was $70, sealed, the same price as I would get Baldur's Gate 3, Spider-Man 2, or Starfield today. Most people would say "I'd only pay $20-40 for a game like that" but you never know when you're gonna find another Panzer Dragoon Saga, collecting can be just as much of a gamble with gaming as anything else, you win some ya lose some. These days, collectors snap up whatever because you never know, and then they buy the digital version to play and leave their physical copy sealed to preserve it's potential value, but it's a gamble. It always is, you never know when a game suddenly becomes rare until the digital era when everything is unlimited, no cheap moves to give anything any real value. Just patience in waiting for price drops but it all eventually comes down, but never rare. So, sometimes it's worth it to take the plunge when everyone else says they'd only pay $20-40, well, you don't have a copy of Devil's Third now until you find some neive person rummaging through an attic that sells what they don't know they have but, if you're gonna spend $70 on a current gen anyway, that price is going to drop, especially as they quickly phase out physical media and collecting stops, then you get stupid things like Starfields Constellation Edition that doesn't have a game, it's just the watch and some other crap they'll sell at a T-Mobile store down the road as a smartwatch, yeah, sometimes it's worth taking the gamble. I spent $70 for a new game, but now, today, it's apparently 10x that so, what was the better deal? And, again, with physical media on the edge of death, say goodbye to collectors Editions as a whole. Once physical media is dead, I don't buy video games anymore, I start playing my backlog, yeah, I wouldn't be selling off anything because next-gen consoles, all digital. Pro models? ALL digital. You won't get Twilight Princess HD on a cart, but you can sure download it and that ain't worth jack
I managed to sell off my Wii U collection at its peak and put that money all into my 360 collection and I couldnt be happier. When I sold some of those Wii u games there were very few on ebay and speculation and FOMO had prices sky high. I looked at it today and I laughed at how nobody is buying and everyone woth those Wii U "rare" games is racing for the bottom to get their games sold. Meanwhile 360 has steadily climbed for two straight years. Looking forward to the Xbox Apocalypse. $$$
Smart man, wii u prices won't go back up until the kids who grew up with it are early mid 20s and have spending money and we are still aways off from that. Now xbox 360 however, we are right around the corner 😮
360 is already proving itself to be more popular than PS3 in the current day and age. That trend will continue. 360 will be the most collectible 7th gen console followed by the Wii and closely behind that will be PS3.
Is there any reason you chose to skip the 2 nyc exclusive limited editions? I think those will forever be the holy grails of unobtanium for wii u collectors.

I kinda wish I had never bought a Wii U. Especially if WW HD and TP HD ever come out on Switch or "Switch 2" (which they should totally call the "Super Switch"). Once they do I'm probably selling everything.

So clearly you don't do your homework before putting on your glasses and telling the rest of us what something is going to be worth and why.
Publishers take notice of high priced games...potentially signal demand for the game...Persona 3 P, Persona Ultimax, and Ghost trick all in triple digits at one time...all ported
Its honestly hard to tell, with the gamecube there's appealing titles that'll make you want to buy it, with the wii u there really isnt many that arent either on switch or something else Gamecube has mario kart double dash, smash melee, wario world, pokemon coliseum 1 and 2 and many more What does the wii u have thats in demand? A couple of zelda remakes and xenoblade, thats it really
When I got Devil's Third I didn't really think it would be "rare." I got it because I liked Tomonobu Itagaki.. And Game & Wario just because it was a new Wario game. When I get a new game I usually get it cuz I want to play it.. I don't usually sit there and stare at it and wonder if it's gonna go up in price, lol.. Maybe I should.. So i don't throw the box and instructions out like I did with ClayFighter Sculptor's Cut 😂 (I got that one when old games were considered just old games) I'm not really a collector. I just get stuff. If it becomes rare and wanted then, bonus. But I don't seek that out

I am finished collecting for the Wii U. Not a full set, but I bought all the game I want for it. Unless...I find a REALLY good deal on Devil's Third. But that won't happen.
Does anybody know why wii u discs seem to die even without any scratches? I had mario Kart from new and it suddenly became unreadable despite no scratches. On ebay I also regularly see faulty discs, completely free of any damage

Yea I think Wind Waker on Wii U has the chance of staying the definitive version of the game thanks to the gamepad. It worked really well with it

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 has a PS4 port (with a physical release) that is dirt cheap. So not sure why it's so expensive on Wii U.
It's on Xbox and Switch with physical copies, in UK at least. Was free on PS+ one month too. The Wii U price makes zero sense.
I think the "its gonna be ported someday" its not the only point to make a predictions about future prices.

It's an interesting conversation to fly on the wall around people. The way I see it is that today you got a selection of games that are going for $70 and in time will eventually come down. Occasionally, you get Xenoblade Chronicles, the Messenger, or UnMetal instances that absolutely suck, but that's just it is going into the digital only era. It's frustrating to see businesses like Limited Run that seem to be anti-consumer. I don't know if whoever is printing for them only offers them so many or they don't want to end up with back stock but, who knows but I would dare say I wouldn't sell ANYTHING at this point because physical media IS on the way out and I'm willing to bet the next Nintendo console is going to be digital only, PS5 Pro is not going to have a disc drive just as we've heard the Xbox Series X Cylinder model isn't going to have a disc drive either so, as a collector, yeah, you may see a newer version of some Wii U games, but not much longer and if you do, it's NOT gonna be physical media.
To my original point, though, the way I see it is that I was willing to spend $60-70 on a game, what in my backlog do I still want? My list of games is narrowing. At the time I got DEVILS THIRD, it was $70, sealed, the same price as I would get Baldur's Gate 3, Spider-Man 2, or Starfield today. Most people would say "I'd only pay $20-40 for a game like that" but you never know when you're gonna find another Panzer Dragoon Saga, collecting can be just as much of a gamble with gaming as anything else, you win some ya lose some. These days, collectors snap up whatever because you never know, and then they buy the digital version to play and leave their physical copy sealed to preserve it's potential value, but it's a gamble. It always is, you never know when a game suddenly becomes rare until the digital era when everything is unlimited, no cheap moves to give anything any real value. Just patience in waiting for price drops but it all eventually comes down, but never rare. So, sometimes it's worth it to take the plunge when everyone else says they'd only pay $20-40, well, you don't have a copy of Devil's Third now until you find some neive person rummaging through an attic that sells what they don't know they have but, if you're gonna spend $70 on a current gen anyway, that price is going to drop, especially as they quickly phase out physical media and collecting stops, then you get stupid things like Starfields Constellation Edition that doesn't have a game, it's just the watch and some other crap they'll sell at a T-Mobile store down the road as a smartwatch, yeah, sometimes it's worth taking the gamble. I spent $70 for a new game, but now, today, it's apparently 10x that so, what was the better deal? And, again, with physical media on the edge of death, say goodbye to collectors Editions as a whole. Once physical media is dead, I don't buy video games anymore, I start playing my backlog, yeah, I wouldn't be selling off anything because next-gen consoles, all digital. Pro models? ALL digital. You won't get Twilight Princess HD on a cart, but you can sure download it and that ain't worth jack

Wii U is literally the only platform I have been avoiding collecting for. Perhaps I should give this another look while the prices are still low.

How would you factor in that disc rot is apparently very common for Wii U Discs? It would seem like more of a liability if that really is the case.
Yes disc rot is a huge problem with Wii u discs. They were made incredibly cheaply and tend to go bad for no reason.
I managed to sell off my Wii U collection at its peak and put that money all into my 360 collection and I couldnt be happier. When I sold some of those Wii u games there were very few on ebay and speculation and FOMO had prices sky high. I looked at it today and I laughed at how nobody is buying and everyone woth those Wii U "rare" games is racing for the bottom to get their games sold.
Meanwhile 360 has steadily climbed for two straight years. Looking forward to the Xbox Apocalypse. $$$
Smart man, wii u prices won't go back up until the kids who grew up with it are early mid 20s and have spending money and we are still aways off from that. Now xbox 360 however, we are right around the corner 😮
I really don't see 360 prices going up majorly to be honest. Microsoft simply doesn't have the same brand power as Nintendo or Sony.
360 is already proving itself to be more popular than PS3 in the current day and age. That trend will continue. 360 will be the most collectible 7th gen console followed by the Wii and closely behind that will be PS3.

I just picked up my first Wii U (new unopened Mario Bros. Deluxe edition). Not seeing a lot I actually want but at least it plays wii games.
I think New Super Luigi U is going to go big in the next decade.

I kinda wish I had never bought a Wii U. Especially if WW HD and TP HD ever come out on Switch or "Switch 2" (which they should totally call the "Super Switch"). Once they do I'm probably selling everything.

@@JokerX350 I did it for years when TH-cam first started then space became an issue and I found I wasn't playing retro games much so I sold part of my collection keeping the nostalgic games.

So clearly you don't do your homework before putting on your glasses and telling the rest of us what something is going to be worth and why.
Publishers take notice of high priced games...potentially signal demand for the game...Persona 3 P, Persona Ultimax, and Ghost trick all in triple digits at one time...all ported

One thing that might have Splatoon 1 be worth revisiting would be free online.
Its honestly hard to tell, with the gamecube there's appealing titles that'll make you want to buy it, with the wii u there really isnt many that arent either on switch or something else
Gamecube has mario kart double dash, smash melee, wario world, pokemon coliseum 1 and 2 and many more

Value would be the only reason I would pick up any wii u games. The system nor it's games had any appeal to me.
When I got Devil's Third I didn't really think it would be "rare." I got it because I liked Tomonobu Itagaki.. And Game & Wario just because it was a new Wario game. When I get a new game I usually get it cuz I want to play it.. I don't usually sit there and stare at it and wonder if it's gonna go up in price, lol.. Maybe I should.. So i don't throw the box and instructions out like I did with ClayFighter Sculptor's Cut 😂 (I got that one when old games were considered just old games) I'm not really a collector. I just get stuff. If it becomes rare and wanted then, bonus. But I don't seek that out

I am finished collecting for the Wii U. Not a full set, but I bought all the game I want for it. Unless...I find a REALLY good deal on Devil's Third. But that won't happen.
Does anybody know why wii u discs seem to die even without any scratches? I had mario Kart from new and it suddenly became unreadable despite no scratches. On ebay I also regularly see faulty discs, completely free of any damage
Might be disc rot.. hold it up to a light and look for pinholes in the foil layer.
