In a nutshell he’s low risk, high reward .
Majority of Edgar players are always hiding in a bush to ambush or to 3rd party you and are almost always using that life steal ability
Remember, if edger gets removed from the game, the edgar randoms would all turn into mortis randoms
At least with mortis, I have a chance to win

Playing Edgar is the path of least resistance for new players, as it's just an automatic win with minimal effort. So they stick with him for most time.
Heck, Edgar works (occasionally and thus unreliably, but still) even in higher trophies, since it's just a matter of luck whether your enemies would have a counter to you, or not.
Not to mention, his hypercharge in pair with "Let's Fly" allows him to destroy even his counters.
Edgar is my 13th reason why, folllowing Kit

I think it’s a pretty simple reason, happens in many games. He’s brain dead and gives a dopamine rush, that’s it. His gameplay consists of charging super (for free pretty much mind you), jumping, and then killing something or dying instantly. Characters that don’t have a lot going on but against new /bad players they thrive in the hand of the new/bad players piloting them, will always have a high play rate. People play him, are used to not being that great, get a dopamine hit on a triple kill, and then they ride that high for the next 5 years lol. They get positively reinforced by his swing nature with rock bottom skill floor against lower skill level enemies. It becomes common in many games for a honestly pretty boring and uninspired character mechanics wise to have a high play rate cuz he avoids a lot of the game strategy and rewards you with near instant kills; even if the character overall is just not that good
Imagine 100 years goes by, the world we know is no longer the same, scientist find a lost video from our time, its a video about a game, talking shit about a character of the game, and its the only way we know about covid in the futere lol

Small adjustment. Edgar actually heals 35% damage. Honestly I thought it was 25% too but it doesn’t matter much.

If bralwers were sports, Edgar is football. His gameplay loop is made to be extremly easy to use, ehile also being dopamine inducing (asassin gameplay and watching people drip health like crazy when you spam the red button

I am actually an edgar main but ım not actually toxic my pins are blue like pin and the cup thumbs up pin ım in love hate relationship with edgar like its sooooooooooo easy and no skill to push him but it can be extremely annoying to play against it.
I assume it's because he's so basic to play and given for free so new players main him and stick with him, i can understand because i mained Darryl in 2019 and he's still one of my mains to this day

I love that Supercell understood the mistakes they've made with Edgar, but also the aspects that made him fun reguardless.
Edgar strougles in higher rank 3v3 games, cuz he either lacks early pressure or enough survivability depending on which gadget you choose with him. Most people take the shield, so you are left without any tools to prevent getting pushed back. That phenomen is mostly notable in bounty, where you have only got one life. The thing with getting pushed back in bounty is that 9 times out of 10 you yourself won't get rushed down, but your team will be left in a 2v3, which will result in their death more times than not. (As the Edgar left in a 1v3, you have an okay chance to kill one of them on your own, but winning from then is out of question. So you let your mates die, picking up some kills in the end, making you think that you are the most competent member.)
The fact that he has a super one dimensional playstyle makes him one of the most matchup dependent brawlers out of all the cast, this resulting in an unrelyable win rate.
Supercell learned from these issues and created a much healthier and well rounded brawler, Kit.
How did Supercell solve the previous issues mentioned, despite being so simular?
They dumped some actual utility in her kit. First of all: many bad matchups can simply be avoided by jumping on a teammate and switching your basic attack to a throw. Another reason that makes Kit viable in most game modes compared to Edgar is her gadget. While in the early game she still has to sit in a bush or close to a wall on long ranged bounty maps for example, she can also surprise enemies with her invisibility gadget, thus giving her ghost pressure. Her super is harder to use, however it is more rewarding. If you mess up and you super yourself into the whole enemy team, then you die during your own stun, but if you use it smart, your team can massively benefit from rooting someone into the ground for a handful of seconds.

Eh, I find his gameplay boring and slow. I don't enjoy waiting around for my super to charge not being able to help otherwise only to get one chance to go in and spam autoaim. To each their own I guess

Edgar's gameplay is brain dead, they just hide in the bush to charge their super, then jump on weak brawlers on close range (which is most of the brawlers)

I don't know why people hate Edgar, considering that there are brawlers out there that are way more annoying than him in my opinion.
The only thing that I can consider annoying in his kit is his gadget "Hardcore" and perhaps his hypercharge, but other than that, he isn't that big of a deal

- Great damage
- Fastest possible recharge
- Almost no interval between attacks
(so he recharges and attacks even faster)
- Gets back nearly 50% of damage dealt as healing (with starpower)
- Fastest speed
- Great super that covers a large area, ignores walls, makes him faster on landing and recovers automatically
- Free brawler, everyone has him
- Free win even in higher ranks
- Most new players will just keep using him forever
- Kids love the whole edgy (ew) aesthetic plus the even more edgy voicelines
- Hyper(fking)charge

Because he’s not
Almost every tank and anti tank brawler counters him. If edgar jumps on them it's basically suicide. And then there are brawlers that can easily maintain distance. In competitive pros only pick edgar as a last pick. I could give a list of brawlers that hard counters edgar like
Shelly, bull, el primo, frank, Griff, hank, jacky, rosa, Draco, spike, doug, gale, piper, Cornelius, lily, ash, stu, pearl, sam, Darryl, otis, masie, surge, meg, chester and Angelo. These brawlers would beat edgar most of the time. And some brawlers would occasionally counter edgar in the right conditions like
Rico, melody, tick, leon, crow, dynamike, fang, buster, buzz, max, that mind control brawler I forgot, mico, larry and lawrie and idk more. That's like 40% of the brawlers in the game.
How about I also tell Edgar's weaknesses?
He is unusable on open maps, Unless you have dumb enemies.
Anyone with a little brain can simply maintain distance.
He doesn't have enough burst damage to beat tanks.
He doesn't have the health to tank things like a Shelly super or rico gadget.
He's just so predictable like most close range brawlers.
He's not the fastest brawler either when brawlers like max, mortis, melody and chuck exist.
He neither has the highest attack speed cuz that is lily.
