Can you fix a small gehl excavator drive if I send it to you, I pop the cover and the top gears look good I can see some bearing parts and looks like one of the mid gears and bearing came apart
Put the cover back on, then place about 3/4 - 1'' of the wire into the hole it came out of, it needs to extend into the same hole in the cover plate, once you start turning the cover plate it will catch the wire and start pulling it around as you turn the cover plate.
I talked to one of our experts. Here's what he said: "He needs to get the tools to screw into the cover plate and turn it while feeding another wire into it to push the existing wire further out." And, if worse comes to worse, you could buy a new set of drives from us.
I removed the cover plate as described by Travis. I replaced the leaking floating face seal and reassembled the final drive EXCEPT THERE IS NO WAY THAT WIRE WILL GO BACK IN WITHOUT SOME SUPER SPECIAL TOOL. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I am considering spot welding the cover plate on.
Got an answer for you! To get the wire back in you have to reverse what you see in the video, feed it in as much as you can and spin the plate in the direction that you want the wire to feed while applying a bit of pressure to it. Spot welding it in place would not be a wise fix for this.
Thanks to Travis and the guys at FinalDriveParts.com. I was able to re-install the locking wire, it only took me 3 hours! My tip is to feed the wire in where the notch in the cover plate is located. Moving the cover plate back and forward will pull in the wire about a half of one millimetre at a time. My KYB final drive was from a Yanmar vio 15-2 mini excavator. The access hole to install the wire is very small so the wire nearly goes in at a 90 degree bend. Thanks again, this job would have been impossible without this youtube video and the further comments provided.
@@shanehayes118 And what if you drill a little tricky hole tangential to the wire track - i mean in the cast iron housing , obviously seal it after job done
Thanks for the video. Dealing with this exact issue at the moment. Will give it a go tomorrow
