I attempted to build a gbs control today. I thought the hardware side was simple enough but time consuming. Kind of struggled finding the correct pins etc. And removing those pots took way longer than I care to reveal. But what truly broke me was the arduino programming part. I'm assuming my board is either faulty or I'm way out of my depth. Either way, I couldn't connect to upload the program. But the usb was connecting and the board was recognized. Anyway, I've decided to rebuild with a socketed arduino next time, and I'm ordering a well known brand at least. Thanks for the detailed video!
You should probably reposition your ESP module as the main GBS chip is known to cause interference to the wifi signal when in close proximity to the ESP.
Wow. As long as you don't mind putting in the work to put it together yourself, this is by far the best value retro upscaler for the vast majority of people. The Retrotink 2X Pro and OSSC are so much more expensive that the work you have to put in to put one of these together seems well worth it and would be very rewarding once it's finished. Or, even if you are looking for a fully assembled GBS-C, I have seen them on Aliexpress for around 70 USD including shipping. Just a good quality SCART or component cable can cost about that much or even more sometimes though T_T Can you do a video on how to make and shield your own component cables, RGB cables, and/or SCART cables? :D
This is subjectively better than the OSSC if you’re playing games that constantly switch resolution and use interlaced signals. The OSSC’s line doubler really does look nice for pixel games but adds a pixelated effect over 3D games. I use the GBSC into an OSSC for the best of both. My mega drive and snes go directly into the OSSC but my Saturn, dreamcast, ps1 and ps2 go into the GBSC. I output them video through VGA at 480p and upscale 2x using the OSSC. That seems to be the sweet spot for me but ultimately I do this purely to convert the interlaced signal using the GBSC, not for a clean image but for a consistent one. Handles great with the elgato 4K.

You always learn by doing! No artist avoids mistakes! Every "nerd" has messed something up, every chef has cut themselves, every painter has ruined a canvas.... You just have to start where YOU feel comfortable! Someone else said this too but, grab a head magnifier!! They help soo much! Nothing fancy, 2x, 2.5x, 3x all fine! JUST GET ONE WITH AS LIGHT! That is more important than most!
A little trick you can do in order to never have to touch the audio jack going ito the HDMI connector (like when using component video) is to use a composite to SCART adapter and use the audio jacks of that adapter :)

This is a good guide & I've just done this mod myself (2 years later), however it looks to me like you've wired the clock generator SCL & SDA to pins 26 & 27 instead of 26 & 25 on the Myson Controller MTV230? I think they should line up with R10 & R37 next to it.

Hello, it is an interesting project but I have some questions. In my opinion, the reason for using a scaler is not only to enlarge the image but also to generate an image (on LED TVs) that looks like the one We see on a CRT. I know this scaler can perform some type of scanline simulation. If this simulation is done well it can be interesting (that is, not only adding a black line but correctly simulating the blurring of the "pixels")... BUT, I AM MORE INTERESTED in DITHERING replication. The SEGA Megadrive/Genesis consoles exploited the presence of dithering in their composite video output to achieve transparency effects or an apparent palette expansion. From the same megadrive connector we can extract an RGB signal (scart) that has greater clarity, but loses the dithering, which is taken into account and used to generate visual effects. Does this scaler have a setting that allow us to recreate the dithering?. Using this scaler, do megadrive games look like they do on a CRT? Do we have transparencies and color gradients again?
I've had a thought of a project to run video into the camera input on a Raspberry Pi and then out the HDMI. This seems like a cheaper idea, tho. Edit: Actually, I found a project that takes RGB to HDMI using a Raspberry PI Zero WH. Have you heard of it?

Making scart RGB cables is a actually pretty complicated topic, and you need different things for each console. I would suggest getting cables from insurrection industries, retrogamingcables, or retro access

I just saw this was a similar question to mine with component audio but it sounds like he's going HDMI out. I'm assuming more specifically the adapter he wants is 3.5mm male to two RCA female adaptor. I know this seems obvious if you look at the plug, but the y adapter is a more common cable (with all pointy cable ends).

Nice unit. I think it's a newer framemister then anything. Because there is a tad of lag. Less then the framemister. Thou i don't notice any lag on my framemister ether. Kinda weird you gotta modify it like that like it's a mode chip for a system. This unit seems awsome. I like how fast it switches resolutions. retrotink 5x is pretty good also. I saw some video's of it upscaling 480i/p very well. I am waiting on the OSSC pro thou. Hope it turns out better then the rest. I hear they will put some FPGA cores on it also. Will make up for systems without rgb like nes. For cores id rather just use a mister or a analogue product if you got a collection. You'll of course be able to attach a real one of course.

Assuming you have a component video game setup like myself and go component in to gbs-aio, do you bypass this scaler entirely and go right into the tv with audio if I'm going component out to a crt?
Thanks for the response. I was attempting to downscale to 240p for some oddball games on newer systems. It seems like I would have to breakout the audio separately from the scaler. I like to use component switches for my setup so I'm trying to simplify and navigate the clutter, make best use of inputs outputs available. My ideal scaler is the retrotink 5x it probably seems like.

I've used the GBS Board only with the ESP8266 for a while Last month, I installed clockgen. and now GBS board does not respond (GBS Control firmware log says "GBS Board not responding!" every time I click a preset option SDA & SCL are NOT swapped... Anyone knows if it is a hardware damage? or something else?
I love my GBS Control, its AMAZING for hooking up my Scart RGB Consoles to a CRT Monitor. I really don't like it when paired with the vga to HDMI Adapter. I feel that the OSSC is far superior for going to HDMI
the VGA to HDMI adapter is just digitizing the signal. It isn't adding anything (including interference) What you see through it is exactly what you'd see when using the VGA output on its own.

First your NES would have to be modified for RGB video. Then you could use either a SCART cable or a HD retro cable to connect the system to this scaler

GBSControl is way faster than the Framemeister. It has less than 1 frame of lag. They're not even close.
The retrotink isn't comparable though because of the huge price gap (more than 250€ of gap)

You can totally use this with the ps2, but you would need the ps2 component cables with it. It has five cables (red, green, blue, red, and white)

This device would not really be that useful for a CRT, unless you’re trying to downscale 480 P content into 240 P content
Thanks for the response. I was attempting to downscale to 240p for some oddball games on newer systems. It seems like I would have to breakout the audio separately from the scaler. I like to use component switches for my setup so I'm trying to simplify and navigate the clutter, make best use of inputs outputs available. My ideal scaler is the retrotink 5x it probably seems like.

@@LIRetroGaming Oh ok ok I thought that maybe was because of something, aslo I saw that some people do the mod with GBS 8220 which haves double VGA output but it requires some tweaks to make it work correctly.

No unfortunately this is only RGB or component
how does it stand against the retro think 2x pro? or the 5x?
Personally I think it’s a better option than the 2X for component video and it also gives you connections for RGB. But the 5X is definitely better

I've used the GBS Board only with the ESP8266 for a while
Last month, I installed clockgen. and now GBS board does not respond (GBS Control firmware log says "GBS Board not responding!" every time I click a preset option
SDA & SCL are NOT swapped...
Anyone knows if it is a hardware damage? or something else?
Not sure what that could be. What happens if you uninstall the clock?

That sounds like you’re getting some kind of interference. Or maybe a bad power supply? Hard to say for sure

I love my GBS Control, its AMAZING for hooking up my Scart RGB Consoles to a CRT Monitor. I really don't like it when paired with the vga to HDMI Adapter.
I feel that the OSSC is far superior for going to HDMI

the VGA to HDMI adapter is just digitizing the signal. It isn't adding anything (including interference)
What you see through it is exactly what you'd see when using the VGA output on its own.

@@LIRetroGaming I'm late to the party, but I wanted to say THANKS for the video, but that case you linked to is not the same one that you used. The one you linked to has extra ports for an oled screen and some giant knob. I don't suppose you actually know where to get the proper STL? Thanks again!
You can just run rgb from a console to that converter and use vga out. Just solder the wires from the scart cable to the rgb connections

It’s most likely the Arduino board. Did you get a successful compilation of the code?
@@LIRetroGaming yes, it compile. but doesn't work anyway. i think the arduino board is broken because when its connect to the pc, it did not recognise. i will try with another model but if still not work, i will give up (sorry about mi English, it's not good, but a i think it's readeble🤣🤣)

First your NES would have to be modified for RGB video. Then you could use either a SCART cable or a HD retro cable to connect the system to this scaler
