I'm with Senator Hawley on this, BUT what will he do about it? Will he put forth legislation or regulation, or was this just grandstanding so he can say "I asked them the tough questions", and then nothing happens and these companies continue on with their predatory practices.
I feel like they could stop all government funding and government provided security if they don't change.
It is not predatory. Bring the right size bag and two things will happen. 1) you wont have to worry about getting kicked out and 2) there will finally be room for everyone's bag on the plane. I have had it with these people bringing carry on's that should have been checked.

Yes! We dont need airlines anyway! 🤡
Yeah and let Etihad and Emirates and Saudi Airlines rule the skies - as they've been trying since their ideologues destroyed Pan Am, TWA, Eastern, US as the "go to" airlines, and the traitors within turned passengers from welcome guests into cattle. I'm all for security, when professional and valid, but the harassment and bullying of disabled passengers, and unaccompanied seniors is disgusing and counter productive, and the CHEATING by PERVERTS among security staff at airlines is SICK, REPREHENSIBLE and CRIMINAL.
no cuz people have places to go
American Airlines are HORRIBLE! We used to have the best but nowadays I’d rather drive across the country, than fly on these airlines! I’ve flown in Qatar, Emerites and Etihad, I’m embarrassed when friends from Middle East come to visit me!

I agree 100% with Sen Hawley. Flying sucks. Used to be able to get a ticket and would automatically include two checked bags and a window/middle/aisle seat.
I agree with all you said here, but I disagree with Hawley when it comes to the carry-on bags. I support the airlines. Kick their a$$e$ off the plane if they cannot follow the rules.
And flying was more back then. I can use frontier to go from X to Y for like 29 dollars each way. If I don’t need the bag it doesn’t matter.

Wait...what do you get now that isn't a window, middle or aisle seat?!?!?
All we would have to do as Americans is refuse to fly for 1 week. Not one single person flies for 1 week and boom. All these airlines are screwed and out of business.
No they won't the Gov't will bail them out again..they got bailed out during COVID yet the prices keep going up
**Aviation geek here**
Personally, I love to fly! People seem to want everything for nothing these days. If u don't like checking ur carry-on or your too fat to fit the seat, buy first class or don't fly but enough with the complaining! Sheesh!
All the airlines managed to get screwed and out of business about 15 years ago. The government bailed them all out. Service became even worse.
@@PorterHouse-Steaktotally disagree. Been flying for over 30yrs and these cartels have become very brazen
That would be epic!
Like a lot of legislators these days, they just don't want to do the work entailed in good governance. And picking on an airline executive is an easy win with no downside. It's all about appearances.
I agree - like is he really asking questions or just kind of raising hell and trying to burn them in public?
The airlines are playing passengers so you don't care ? That airlines are playing with you?
The worst flying experience of my life came on an American Airlines flight from Boston to DC. They loaded us on the plane knowing that there were storms in the Mid Atlantic that were going to prevent us from being able to land. 5 minutes after boarding they announced that we could not take off. Despite never leaving the gate, we were told that if we got off the plane we would not be allowed back on. We sat at that gate for 5.5 hours before taking off. Total time on the plane was 7 hours. They knew they screwed up so bad that they actually caved and gave me flight credit for my troubles. I haven't stepped foot on an AA aircraft since though
Your experience sounds like the trip from hell
I hear you. I live in Japan. However, the best US airline experience for my family and me was on Delta (KIX-HNL). They took care of us well and the other passengers. Mind you, We were a family of 4 at the time (now 5) and our daughters were infants. United, (flying from HNL-LAX on the connecting flight) on the other hand, didn't let us board first, with the first and business class passengers since we were using a stroller and my wife carried our other daughter on her front. Unlike United, Delta (along with other US airlines and Japanese airlines) allowed us to board first and helped us get seated. The only good thing I have to say for United was that the flight attendants helped us once we boarded and were suprised that the gate agents didn't allow us to board first.
Can I have that flight credit code?
@@manuelvalencia9407 Delta is definitely the best U.S. airline. Unfortunately because of this, it is also the most expensive.

I had to pay $70 on the spot because my school bag was supposedly more than the dimensions on my way to California following my undergrad graduation. It’s ridiculous. Spirit has ridiculous hidden fees, and it is crazy.
Schools don't define get to define airline bag dimensions, airlines do. Spirit may have some "ridiculous" fees for bags, but such fees are fully disclosed pre-flight. Do airlines get to define school tuitions? Your argument is absurd.

the golden age of air travel was when it was regulated by the government :)
Yes. The airlines had to compete on features and service. Fewer could afford it, but as we’ve seen cheap air travel isn’t necessarily a good thing.
If you want to pay as much as people did during this time, you can fly first class and get a much nicer experience than they did.

Ironic how a senator is calling others horrible
Cool story. Nothing will happen. Never does.
Airlines aren't the only entities using discriminatory dynamic pricing. Amazin has been doing to for a decade. I have caught them myself.
Look at a product logged in and then look at it again on another computer not logged in. They also raise the price of prime items to cover shipping.
Didn’t I see Josh running through the airport, no the capital
I flew on frontier airlines in 2016. My luggage was lost for days and it ruined my vacation to Florida. They only had one human resources person available to talk and it took 3 hrs to get hold of her.
I am old enough as a "aviation" brat that flew during REGULATION (certain routes for certain airlines (very little duplication), verifiable maintenance, structured pay, rigid pilot / first officer / flight crew applicant requirements, no DEI, routes must carry 90% booking, etc. Airline travel was SAFER, and more efficient. The FAA did the job they were supposed to do ... make sure airplanes were safe in construction; planes were being serviced and maintained ON TIME and according to the book; Air Traffic Control (enroute and "tower") were not bastions of DEI - most controllers were ex-military and qualified. CEOs were ex-military and private pilots with thousands of multi-engine hours. ANY disruption on board an airplane against a crew member was punishable as a FELONY such under maritime law.
You seem very animated by DEI. You also claim "Airline travel was SAFER, and more efficient." It certainly was NOT safer as judged by the number of accidents with fatalities during the latter part of the regulated era. It was not more efficient because the government set rates. Markets create efficiency, not government.
If we had the same accident rate today as we did the 1960s and 1970s with commercial aircraft in this country, we'd have a fatal 737 crash about every 10 days.
Certainly was not safer
I remember those days... and then the t*ists started their garbage, covert wars against civilians in the West. And yes, DEI is totally inappropriate for aviation, military, any and all high risk occupations: most skilled, experienced, best for the job realists. For the most part airline crews are exceptional, both flight deck and cabin, and deserve our support and respect.
TALK is cheap Josh. Be a man of action.
Thank you
Frontier is the worst

He's right spirit airlines suck. I would never fly them again ever. I'm surprised they don't charge for seat belts.
I flew Spirit once and never fly again.
I’ve flown nearly every airline going back to the 1970’s. On average I’ve flow over 120,000+ miles per year. International too. Flying is uncomfortable and Sen. Hawley I appreciate your honesty. It’s my experience too. It’s a disastrous experience.
While I like this guy asking the hard questions, it would’ve been really nice if he actually shut his own mouth for once and let the other side complete their answers instead of interrupting at every word.
This felt more like ego boosting than anything else.

Flew with spirit back in 2020 departing from dfw to lax. Early flight out, told along with others “we missed our flight” wrong! The truth was, spirit had overbooked. Weren’t being honest, had to pay out of my own pocket for the next flight. Never again! I did it because it was cheap. I will not be treated like that from an airline company ever again. Glad they’re got bought out.
Bravo for pointing this malpractice out
Bring back the Civil Aeronautics Board.
In October 2023 I was in line to board my Spirit flight. A spirit employee grabbed me out of line and told me I need to check the size of my backpack and sure enough it was a bit too big. She told me I need to pay for it and I said “Nah, I’m just gonna wear 4 shirts”. So right there I started putting on layers of clothes until the backpack fit in the cube then walked on with my free personal item. I feel even better knowing now that scumbag was going to receive a bounty for that.
Thank you Senator for speaking out for the people God bless you Sir
Very proud of our fellows in the US for their accomplishments in jet airline passenger travel. Thanks to all US participants! Love, passenger.
WOW…I didn’t know any of this crazy incentive.
Look I agree with hawley that things should be better, but charging a variable fee on bags is simple supply and demand economics. The airline has to make a profit and Hawley knows that. The airlines profit margins are generally very thin. There ARE tremendous costs with running an airline. Flying is not like taking an uber and I think some people forget that.
$10/bag commission is insane. We are literally treated like an ATM. The first time I flew frontier was this past summer and first impressions were why are there so many employees at the gate. It wasn’t until boarding that I noticed you had to go past the first employee which sized everyone’s bag. You had to get past him to get to the second person to show your boarding pass. Two other employees behind the counter charging the now longer line to pay penalties. The stress and chaos they created due to this incentive was insane. Budget airlines are very much needed and I hope they stay. Glad to hear that incentive was removed.
Where’s the whole video???? This was GOOD!
This Senator is fantastic
Josh loves to put on a show. Very disrespectful during his questioning - interrupting, etc. Takes the "low road". Similar to the president-elect.
Listening to Mr. Hawley is a far more horrific experience than flying on any airline. I agree with the airline issues, but like @mikeisgettinupset said, Hawley is using this as a performance platform. His vitriole is just noxious.
Sure.. that's what these congressional hearings are across the board, but these airline scum were so wildly unprepared to answer any question. Sketchy
The ridiculous thing about frontier is you don’t get assigned right next to each other if it’s a family in a single booking. You gotta pay extra for that, atrocious!!
Overhead bins are made to fit bags of a specific size, a size that is made available to everyone on airlines websites. Why should one asshole who thinks they're above the law be allowed to bring a bag that exceeds those dimensions and expect to be treated the same as everyone else who can follow a damn rule? If it's to big that's a you problem and if they have to gate check your bag that's too big for free they're doing you a favor

I stopped flying 4 years ago because of all this Airline BS. We are all sick of being treated so disrespecfully. I will not allow an airline employee to gaslight me on behalf of their company. Thank you Sen. Hawley for making this public.
Hmm I was forced to check my bag after choosing to use carry-on -the correct size- even though it was free it was a major inconvenience.
As I was then forced to wait around for the luggage carousel to give me mine and go to the rental car and so on and so on and so on .
On my return flight as well, not as disruptive, but did manage to disrupt my schedule on the way there
Senator is right. Aye there's some fresh air.

I will never forget being yelled at by an airline attendant on on my way to Las Vegas when I pulled my mask down to take a drink of my soda.
We are definitely going to do something about this 😘
Fix the TSA before you come after private companies. This is political grandstanding at its worse. The market will take care of the airlines but not the horrible TSA. That's the area Hawley has oversight of and could actually do something.
The TSA needs to have a way for the public to make comments about their experiences. If you are TD1 and have an insulin pump. These devices cannot be sent into x-ray machines. How about some training and common sense! As well elderly! I have witnessed TSA agents making rude comments towards the public. I understand the TSA has a job to do. They need to be held accountable.
I LOVE SENATOR HAWLEY. I fly Southwest all the time and love them!!
Hawley’s a SAVAGE ! We need a lot more politicians like him.
All your complaining about flying these BUDGET airlines are wild. They’re BUDGET for a reason. Get on by yourself with everything you got in your pocket and save money. Don’t expect to fly on it in comfort AND save money.
Simple capitalistic economics. Don’t buy their tickets. They’ll go out of business… OH WAIT, there’s other people willing to fly it !
I love that he picked on frontier and spirit
Frontier is horrible. You’ll get a very cheap roundtrip ticket but the hidden fees and carryon/checked bags will add an insane amount on top of it. They’ll also change your flight multiple times and tell you there’s nothing they can do about it. I honestly just pay a bit more with a more reputable airline like Delta to know what I’m getting with the peace of mind of no hidden fees or anything
It's cool that they pay the employees to find the bags that don't meet the rules because bags that are too heavy are going to cause weight problems on the plane and could be a safety issue. It's clear what your bag size is allowed to be and what the weight is allowed to be so people simply need to make sure their bags meet those criteria.
Questions were very simple to answer:
“We charged based on supply and demand in real time, like oil and other commodities
We use algorithms to calculate the prices, but these personal data are not parameters these algorithms use”
The issue with the first is they use very obscure tactics to hide fees and skip regulation, because it’s cheaper to pay fines. The issue with the second one is that they dont even know what their algorithms do.
Masterful! Pure gold in holding corporations accountable
Flying period has become a nightmare. Fromtier being one of the worst with treatment of their customers.
these Hawley videos should be watched by far more people 👍
No more federal Bailouts to Airlines, NO MORE tax payer money to these thieves! NO MORE BAILOUTS!
I am of the complete other persuasion but I adore Senator Hawley vs. CEOs… sometimes we don’t need new laws just to enforce existing ones! Good job Senator
My First airline SHOCK of any American airline came in 1996 when I took a 16 hrs Delta flight from Hong Kong to LAX en-route to NYC, upon getting on board on second leg of my LONG flight the crew asked me to pay 3 bucks for earpiece! I couldn’t believe it, I asked her that already flying with their airline for 16 hrs international flight and now another flight from West to East coast, should I pay $3 for an earpiece? It’s ok, keep it.
It costs in Europe to fly between countries $40 but here within our own borders it’s hundreds of dollars!!!
Yes, I had family members flying from London across Europe for $40!
After watching these CEO's talk I like to keep it simple... I will NEVER fly Frontier or Spirit Airlines no matter what! Doesn't matter what they do now or in the future. I will tell all my extended family and many friends not to travel with these two robber baron airlines.
Get em Hawley 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

As usual these hearings never amount to anything
Amazing how quick my post was deleted. These airline execs are arrogant, suited crooks. Love them being grilled. When Americans stop flying on their stupid airplanes, they will change their ways. I hate flying on most of them - as the Senator said, it's a horrible experience, and I too, have been one of those targeted people (on more than one occasion) where ALL of a sudden, my carry-on was too big - the same carry-on which was fine when I have flown to South Africa and back, used many times in the past in the US - and had to pay $50 plus because it was now no longer a "carry-on." I hate most of these crooked airlines!
This is why I fly private. Not gonna be squeezed into a tin can with 200 psychopaths.

Ok. Any solution instead of questions?
Airlines do not pay taxes on fees. They do pay taxes on fairs. Nuf said. Taxes were not brought up.
Most airlines do not own airplanes and must rent them. Because of this they are damaged and unrepaired. The airlines have found that it's cheaper to lease planes than to purchase them So that they are not responsible for the damage and lack of repair
love that he is calling them out, but at the end of the day they have no power to "fix" what the airlines do and nothing will change.
Yessssss!!!! I was harassed terribly when I was boarding American Airlines for my pet bag I had already paid $150 for. It was so dramatic!!! I also paid for priority seating another $90 and then became the last one boarding the plane because of the harassment and being singled out.
I agree they are the worst airlines. Very badly trained flight attendants, had a racist one on our flight and I vowed never to fly spirit again. Can't imagine those will protect us if something were to go wrong. I can understand passengers being racist but airline staff being that is the worst for us. Complained but nothing was done.
2:00 It would be very interesting to hear the airline attendant's side of the story who "threatened" to ban Josh Hawley's wife from flying. I highly suspect his wife is a "Karen".
I like Hawley, but I think he needs to calm down. People should know how big of a carry on you can have. People are inconsiderate, selfish, and self centered. They bring on bags that are way to big to fit in the overhead bin or below the seat.
These self centered jerks don't care who they inconvenience or make upset trying to stuff their massive bag above another person's head.
The airlines do stuff like this to get the jerks to stop bringing a bigger carryon every time.
That's why I don't fly on airliners. There was a point in time when checked bags and carry on bags did not cost you extra money.
I HATE carry-ons. Makes boarding and de boarding take FOREVER. Whatever they need to do to reduce the number of carryons, I’m all for it.
I get that he is frustrated but it would be nice if he would let them answer the questions he asked.
