I served in the eighties in Army Reserves. In basic training we went on bivouac where they gave us our MREs all at once for the week. I was 17 and ate all of them first night. I still love MREs. Not sure what I did for lunch the rest of the week. That part of the memory is fuzzy. I remember finding a box of MREs besides the Captain's tent. I can't remember if I swiped any, but I probably did. I was a good decade away from Christ still.

I think the difference in colour of the mains pouches was a year thing.
Over the years the colours of the bags and interior packaging changed.
The mre chicken and noodles was a lot older than the other chicken and noodles, which is why it's a darker green.
This is a really interesting video, great to see the comparison and I'm really surprised that the apples with raspberry held up.
Food fight with the peanut butter!! 😂

Another very entertaining and educational video. These are so enjoyable to watch! It looks like that the training meal, was actually more food in quantity, than the standard MRE. I noticed the "strategic" placement of the unopened bag of Skittles! LOL! Also the mystery hand that came into camera view, as soon as they were opened. LOL! Really a great looking chicken dish, for them both. Too bad the MRE one was too old to enjoy. I noticed what you were talking about, as far as the USA powders not mixing as completely, and as quickly, as the international MRE's do, very interesting. Looking forward to more, God bless.

I am in Civil Air Patrol and I have never had the tailored meal. I have had MREs through CAP twice. Both times were during Encampment, which is our week long camp/leadership/boot camp thing. I had one during our required staff training weekend and one during the actual week of encampment. I was on the dining service team and we ran out of them very quickly and we had to go and find some from the base we were in.

    • @bosschonk

A dash of salt helps with the FRHs. Also you should lay it flat for a second (with the edge folded over so the water doesn't escape) to make sure all four cells of iron oxide shavings get activated. Water with iron oxide is okay. Salt water with iron oxide is amazing.

The Totom or training meals are what we use in the Tennessee National Guard. I'm actually surprised you got a pound cake in yours. Mostly they take out the good stuff. I have been in since 2014 not seen a pound cake yet. I still have 14 cases of the training meals just would like more cheese spread and hot sauce but that's just me
