Don't wait! With new L-509z coming at higher MSRP the L-509x supply is running out quickly. Cost / value the L-509x may soon be a steal
Been running McIntosh for 7 years and looking for something different. The Luxman line sure has my interest, trouble is so many models in around the same price point, was looking at the 590axII which I know is discontinued but some dealers have demo’s kicking around but this 509x sure sounds interesting especially since it’s Class A at the lower watt level. The 507z looks interesting but it’s about 10 lbs lighter which says they’ve cut corners somewhere.
Hope you can see my dilemma. I’m running Harbeth speakers that are 85db.

How does this compare to the Luxman L-507z?

I’m a Hi-Fi bred beast who is chasing his tail. I’ve reached a point in life where I’m able to choose the 2 channel set up I’ve always desired. Yes it feels wonderful and Luxman is a candidate. I’ve missed integrated amps with more than 120 wpc in the Luxman line. Do they have an A/B that exceeds that amount ? Also looking at accuphase Macintosh or separates from Parasound, Your review is greatly appreciated I enjoy concise complete reviews and hope to see others down the road. Take Care.

You do realize the difference between this amp and say a 250wpc amp is 3db of headroom but requires much more power supply and circuitry which is then limited in chassis volume. Chances are very good you do not need more power and it does not make sense to try and fit 10lbs in a 5lb bag if unnecessary.

Just a thought however,I may be off on this but I think I’d like to have a powerful base to work with along with a choice turntable that would allow me to rotate speakers at will. I have a great deal to learn and would be fortunate to have an experts opinion as I proceed so thank you and I look forward to those discussions. Take Care.
now for the stupid question (you always have to have on in the comments or it will not be the internet😄): Can you have headphones powered out of the speaker output? I mean of course you can and you need to be mindful that you are playing with fire, but does it sound good? I am looking for an AB so powerful that will drive any headphones and while good old Benchmark ABH-2 would fit the bill, I want tone balance and those sweet VU meters. So doe anyone know if headphones driven out of speaker output sound good on this unit? Thank you.
Would this beautiful integrated be able to push Sonus Faber Maxima Amators? They are about 88/4 ohm speakers. Thank you!
We do not carry SF so I cannot say. SF is a very hungry speaker like overall and appreciate huge amounts of current. I'd say L-509x will power them however you will be pushing this amp if you really crank it up.

Why didn't they put a light for volume level.
See the new L-509z and it's digital readout between the meters for volume which can be turned on, off, or turns off after a short delay of adjusting the volume.
I'm looking at the Accuphase E-380/Luxman L-509x/Yamaha A-S3200 for a second system (In my reference system I have a T+A PA3000HV)... any thoughts and insights that you might have would be very much appreciated.

We only carry US versions of the L-509x which are for US 120v wall current

No and I never recommend a built in DAC. You will hopefully own this amp for decades and it will age very well. Anything digital does not age like analog. In five to ten years it will be an old DAC and something better will be available. Thank you for watching and the question we appreciate it!

Not at all. The 507 is the middle model in the class A B amplifiers. 507 was just refreshed as the 507z

After 25 years with naim-audio products, I like to own something different. I bought a L-507uxMKII. What can I say...it is a bloody beautiful amp with an awesome sound! You don't will miss a beat, it sounds clear with a beautiful warmness, very detailed, have a perfect soundstage with a lot of room, and a base you feel in your body. It drives my Heresy's III perfectly.

It will however you should listen to it to make sure the symmetry is right for you. Klipsch Heritage loves tubes.

Yes, it separates the preamp and amp. You could run a tube preamp into the power amp

Why don't Luxman use toroidal transformers?
I can't speak for the Luxman engineering which is over the top obsessive but the 600 VA EI-core-type power transformer used in L-509x is beautifully done. To use a comparable air inductor may be huge and not worth any potential plus side? It is not a cost thing since one look at L-509x transformer you can see it is not inexpensive to produce.
Good for home theatre?
Can be used as a power amp for L+R in a home theater however this is a stereo analog integrated amp not a multichannel

Not quite the finish? Not sure what your referring to there. The L-509x still has a slightly warmer sound then L-507z to my ears. The 507 sounds a bit more like the now discontinued class A amplifiers.

Yes but you can run a Japanese model with a transformer correct?
Could you and should you are very different things. Will it work yes, will it work like the correct transformer nope.

Could effect both. Undersized step down can strain power supply. Can also add noise. Why buy a Japanese model? Grey market, no warranty, no support, terrible resale value, and once it arrives you will likely have to pay customs. If you are in the US, buy from a US dealer the correct voltage amp.

Digital does not belong inside your analog amplifier at this level of equipment. Buy a good DAC that has it's own power supply and run that into a pure analog amp. Besides, in a decade that DAC will be outdated while the amp will hopefully still live on for many years.
My sansui au 717 special would slap that amp up
