You are right TheLinsey890: it appears as though Matthew has been warned that he can't be a disruption for other students, so Mr. S and Matthew's father had to tag team and convince him that he can't be a disruption for others
This is unconstitutional, like the Texas school principal and coach in the "Shaggy" episode thinking they have something to say about the length of boys' hair. It's not the school administration's business WHAT langue students speak. They might not like it, but what they do and don't like isn't the students' problem. I'm gonna risk an assumption that the kid who damaged the lockers is part of that Turkish community...THAT kid ACTUALLY did something wrong, but his language is none of their concern.
To me it looked more like his dad could not understand why his son was behaving in such a manner. In the Turkish school system, I am sure the discipline is a lot stricter.
I don't think they have a problem with him speaking Turkish, it's just that he is most likely "answering questions" in Turkish in class and really mouthing off to teachers. A lot of people in German schools swear in English and the teachers pretend to ignore it, but a few times I've seen them act on it.
I agree. The principal even said he doesn't have a problem with this guy speaking Turkish with his friends; it's just a distraction in class. I can also see how it would be a problem that no one knew what he was saying. He could be making derogatory remarks or even threats. At any rate, the heart of the matter is he's found a way to cause problems on a minor level by either ignoring or mouthing off to teachers or getting away with saying whatever he wants because no one can understand him or even just knowing that his behavior of speaking a foreign language is distracting to other students. I totally agree that him speaking Turkish with friends during free time is okay, and the principal said as much, but it's not appropriate for the classroom.
Originally when I saw this for the first time I heard something along the lines of you keep speaking Turkish in class, and I was mad at the principal because I thought maybe he couldn't speak english fluently, it's not his fault, but then he spoke fluent english and my mind changed
Also, schools bring in lots of foreign exchange students and groups of foreign exchange students every school year. Some of them have not even spoken one word of English until their journey to a U.S. school.
There should be NO TALKING in ANY language during testing, but all ethnic groups have the right to their native tongues. Moreover, the potential for abuse of a right doesn't trump that right. I'm a Democrat and I'll be the FIRST to say that mass shootings don't trump law-abiding citizens' 2nd Amendment. In fact, they REINFORCE that right. We have no official language in the USA and it's none of the administration's business if Turkish/American kids speak Turkish. The risks of cheating can be mitigated, as I said, by prohibiting ALL talking during the testing period.
I agree! What is so darn inappropriate about speaking turkish ? Last week i got in trouble at summer day camp because I was touching my friends! And the counselor called my group home staff and reported me! Saying that what I was doing was inappropriate! You’re supposed to use all 5 senses and touch is the most important one! I also got in trouble because I asked for a girl’s phone number but the counselor called me out on it and told me I wasn’t allowed to text her! That’s bullshit! I text whoever I want! It’s my phone! Geez! Some people!

The majority of the staff and teachers likely don’t speak or understand Turkish along with the majority of his classmates and he knows that. He was disrupting class and distracting others from their learning which is not okay. He was also saying things to the teacher in a language the teacher couldn’t understand and that’s disrespectful. It’s okay to speak Turkish but not okay to disrupt class and disrespect others. The principal even said it was okay to speak it at lunch or with his friends.
Our First Amendment requires public schools to weigh both the freedom of expression and speech within schools as well as the need for an orderly and secure place of learning.
If the issue is Turkish-American kids using their native language to facilitate cheating, then nobody should be speaking ENGLISH during test-time either. NOTHING good EVER comes from trying to erase an ethnic minority's language and other cultural aspects. Along with Native Americans, Jews, Roma, Hmong and most recently Uyghurs are textbook examples of attempts to erase ethnic/cultural touchstones.
Guys, he was speaking it in a class being conducted in ENGLISH, obviously being disruptive and disrespectful by doing it. Outside of class, the principal said it was fine to speak Turkish. Almost no one in the comments seems to understand this.
the issue is that he's in a high school in an area that has a TON of ethnicities. it's not that they're supressing his culture or freedom, just trying to prevent further issues down the line. first one guy speaking turkish turns into only three kids in a class speaking english and the teacher isn't able to do his/her job. also if he were speaking one language and some other student who is from an opposing country hears it, there might be a fight or other confrontation.

He’s fine honestly I would react the same
That guy has de right to speak in his language or accent
Trey Welch wtf does accent have to do with this
This is America
In the video it isn't stated that he spoke to the teacher, good point though.
Good. I kan't wait to go on our date. I'm so excited sweetie.
Him not being able to speak his native tongue at school. That is a bit far fetched.
If I was that kid, I would not want go back home. That dad looked pissed ...
Freedom of Speech.... you know, it's where you can speak.... for free.
I had this issue in public school with something stupid and finally I said, don't suspend me because I'm not coming back. So for 25 days I skipped until they agreed to change things and be fair.
Harv Potts thats pretty stupid no offense ....
@@nicknoble7153 None taken but administration deserved every ounce of disrespect they got. This is possibly the young mans heritage in which every person has the right to live
he looks like the ant man villain
OMG...thats New Jersey! A couple of years back spanish wasnt allowed at state buildings because of a female said 2 other females were talking about her in spanish. I didnt think that would happen in the schools.
New Jersey also has a lot of Turkish-Americans (as well as Azeris). Hell I am pretty sure it has little Istanbul in NJ.
I don’t think suspension is a real punishment like imagine you skip school and you get suspended like yay you miss more days then the one you purposely missed
In school suspensions are honestly a lot worse though, there supposed to be less harsh than an out of school suspension but in an in school suspension your just sitting at a lonely desk in the office constantly forced to do all your work by yourself, the time goes by EXTREMELY slow .
@lovely wyvern he said iss which is in school suspension which mean sitting in a class doing nothing but work for 7 hours
This is so dumb. The student has a point that it's a free country because we basically have the rights to speak what we want.
Maybe the Principal is lying. The faculty, staff, & administrators do know what he’s saying (profanity & slurs in Turkish). The Principal just didn’t want the student & his father to know that the school staff knows what the student is saying to the staff members.
Dad should’ve just turned to his kid and asked in Turkish, “is this dude for real?”
