    Found your channel and watched several of your episodes now. Very interesting and informative. great job. one suggestion... let Julie get a word in once in awhile! :)

      Thanks for watching some of our videos and for the suggestion. Believe me when I say that I have tried to get her host/narrate a video once in a while. It just isn't her thing for the most part. She did overdub one campground review we did a couple years ago. It's titled "Lake Mead National Recreation Area - Las Vegas Bay Campground" if you want to see it.

    Another great video is pickle still with you?

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, she is still with us. 19&1/2 years old. She still likes to go out exploring every day around the RV. She is definitely slowing down and sleeps a lot. I'll try and put a current shot of her in a video sometime. Thanks for asking about her, Bob.

      Thanks for checking on us, Greg. We are back on the mine hunting trail now and we're just getting ready to make a video explaining our absence.

    I had an H2S detector,, my nephew borrowed it.
    Yall ever use a flame to detect bad gas,,,like candle in a box or a lantern?

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We should carry a multi gas detector but only carry an oxygen meter. We have never had a problem so far with H2S or I wouldn't be writing this. On occasion the oxygen meter will detect levels lower than normal but still not enough to worry about. Thanks for the comment, Andy!

    • @ironblack5387
      @ironblack5387 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never seen a sign of H2S in a mine, gas plants, garbage trucks, barns, yes

    What were they mining for in those mines?

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Starting in 1893 gold and silver were mined in Douglas Canyon. These mines had produced $500,000 worth of gold and silver by 1903. The mining boom in Tonopah caused a slowdown in this area although by the 1930's an additional $750,000 worth of gold and silver was extracted from Douglas Canyon mines. Thanks for the comment, Lee!

      The county in general is very mineral rich. There are mines in various locations that have produced lead, cinnabar (mercury), copper, tungsten, gypsum, turquoise and other minerals and metals as well as the gold and silver. They didn't name it Mineral County for nothing.

    I noticed those flags in almost all of the mines. Are they put there by the individual mine owners or a government assayer? You would never get me back in one of those mines if I had seen the rat. Hahaha Rats scare me more than the rattlesnake I encountered when I was hiking.

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flags can be from either of the scenarios you mention. I think most of them in this area are from claim holders. Many mines aren't owned by an individual but they hold the mineral claim on land that is federally or state owned. I think the majority we visit are on BLM lands. The ribbons mark different stations and veins in the mine to aid with the sampling and assaying process. Almost all the desert mines have pack rats in them yet we don't actually see them often, but always see their nests. Thanks for all your support, P-Daz. We always appreciate it. And watch out for those rattlers.

    One lonely rat in that big ol mine... poor guy... Busy day you guys!! 😳

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We see rat nests in the majority of desert mines that we enter but rarely see the rats themselves. I'm guessing they hear us coming and hide before we get close. We did see one more in a different area a few days after we saw this one. Thanks for the comment, Max!
