I’m pretty sure that even if it all was on scar, not a soul would care. We all hope he gets better in time, and we all know you guys have personal lives. While wanting new vids and goofy hermit stuff, I like to think that the community is very understanding

I don't think anyone would "Blame Scar" for the delay. His health is far more important to people than the start of the season. I don't think anyone would want Scar to put his health on the line for a series and blaming him for things he has no control over is just a shitty thing to do.
I have definitely seen people say that scars health is the reason they decided to push back the start date to wait for until he's in good health again. And even if they didn't mean it in a bad way, they *are* blaming scar for it

Yeah, it's the fault of the aliens that kidnapped him the day before the season was planned to start. This entire video is part of a conspiracy to cover that fact up while the rest of the Hermits are still in the planning phase of their rescue plan. Of course, Mumbo is also partly to blame as his "peace, love, and plants" philosophy meant that no one was able to stop the aliens when they arrived.

Honestly i’m always a little bit shocked when a new season arrives. I expect a month long break and am promptly hit in the face with another episode as if the season never ended.
I completely agree with this. I am glad they took a break. It’s been really nice not having to jam in 15+- episodes a week for a little while, needed the break myself. I do selfishly wish they started back up the day after the Superbowl lol. Now I have nothing to watch except a couple college basketball games a week. This is my dead zone of entertainment unfortunately.
The first time I started watching was season 6, and I just, kind of assumed because they were called "seasons" that there would be like a six month break. Not even remotely true.
Yeah I feel the same way. I started in season 6 and I just kept expecting there to be at LEAST a month between, especially because that season had all that planning with the different building style zones. I figured it would take a long time to come up with ideas like that for every single season. Doing them back to back must be exhausting. When I heard Xisuma say in one of his videos that they were taking a bit of an extended break between seasons I was honestly relieved on their behalf 😅 they put so much work into it that they deserve and probably NEED the rest
I didn’t even consider Scar or TFC’s potential health complications holding up this season.
But, this goes to show that with people like TH-camrs or celebrities, too many of their fans, especially the younger ones expect them to be subservient, like high positioned jesters. That’s definitely a rude way of thinking if said people are married, have children, or, in the unfortunate case of Scar, have health complications that make things even worse. Do you know how many times he goes on hiatus per season?
There’s of course also the issue that these people can’t be living their best life if they’re always living up to that unrealistic subservience that some of their fans except them to be.
This also kind of plays into people complaining that Mojang is “lazy” after caring about the well being of their employees who illustrated 30+ concept designs for the warden.
I just hate how popular it is of an idea to rip on people for these reasons. I don’t see this being such a partisan issue.

Absolutely. I just enjoy the content. I know they have to keep views up, because it's literally their livelihood, but I'm just like watching them have fun and mess around. Doesn't matter if they are building a massive base, concocting a mind blowing mini game. I would hate them to stress themselves out so much hey no longer feel a drive to play, and make content about it.

I feel like this has been a reasonable amount of time for a break between seasons. A lot of the hermits have started new mini series, so I wouldn't expect them to start season 9 until they finished their mini series.

The fact that there was more than 1 person saying it's scars "fault" honestly makes me sick to my stomach. Man is out there dealing with stuff that would make a normal person give up yet he's out here staying positive. Honestly I knew the hermits love scar and would never blame him for anything but for them to have to say it is really sad. It's like some people don't realize there are human beings behind the content they watch for free. Plus the fact that Doc said it would be nice to take a longer break "for once" tells you they're exhausted with having to keep up with hermitcraft and just want a break. People take vacations from work all the time and don't get asked constantly when they're coming back. So people should just lay off the hermits and let them take a break if they need one
Remember that a majority of fans are young kids who tend to be unreasonable with their behavior and that the people blaming scar are not only few, but also probably young kids.
If it was all based on Scar's health, I think the entire group would openly say they are waiting of Scar to feel better and don't want to start a season without him. They wouldn't let fans speculate on that.
I wouldn't be opposed to waiting on Scar if the group felt it was best, but it's totally not based on Scar.
Unfortunately, there are a LOT of "fans" of Hermitcraft that do nothing but complain about everything: The nHo story got a LOT of flack, the Civil War thing got a LOT of flack, Xisuma got a LOT of flack for his Derp Coin thing, and now they are upset at Scar for being ill which is just ridiculous and all I have to say is "To Hell them!", making it slightly more appropriate for family friendly

I've been here since season 6 and I always feel so bad when the community goes haywire because of start dates for seasons, all the hermits should take the breaks they deserve and people should never speculate into conspiracy theories about "why there's a long delay" for me season 8 just ended and I'm still rewatching hermits episodes and I hope everyone's doing well!!

Maaaan, I’ll play for just a couple days straight and take a week or so break. I can’t imagine the toll it takes creatively and all around mentally.
One thing to remember - a large part, if not majority of HC community is children. They don't have the same sensitivities, social experience, understanding. They have a hard time understanding a hermit playing a villain (like Cubfan in S6) is not actually evil, and you may hate the character but you shouldn't hate the person.

Exactly everyone takes vacation days from work even if it's only on occasion, but a lot of TH-cam creators can't take breaks without people thinking the channel is dead or speculating or whatever, it's pretty dumb they deserve a break just as much as anyone else.

Well you also have to think of the amount of Children that watch that make unreasonable and very rude comments and blame people for things they shouldn't be blamed for at all. That and the teen's or Adults who say absurd stuff about scar and maybe others on the server. No one should blame anyone, these guys need a very good break especially for how long they've been doing this.

@@richardfrost4577 Agreed. And I grew up whithout internet, kids were not "smarter" or more "reasonable" back in the days. And that's normal... they're kids! It just take time to learn stuffs... And I agree people tend to forget that a lot of hurtful comments just come from kids (not all of course..) and I personnally don't care that much. When your on child make a very insensitive comment about you, you usually don't take it personnally, you know it's a kid and usually don't blame him, just teach him.

I never once viewed the idea of waiting on Scar's recovery as 'blaming' Scar, and it's always felt like the community as a whole has always made it clear that we want him to be concerned about his health first. That said, I completely understand the 'herding cats' experience of trying to coordinate a group of people this size, you can never make plans work for everyone in a large group. You guys and gals always seem to make it work though!
Unfortunately there was quite a few people in Scars own comment section just spamming about when hermitcrafts coming back based on his medical stuff which makes it feel more like people are more concerned about the series than his health. Obviously not everyone but the problems definitely there

I think part of the issue is that it creates a certain amount of public curiosity towards his health that isn't necessarily enjoyable for him or other people involved. As X points out any speculation about someone can be a weight on that person.

Yea same here. I started watching middle of season 7. Seeing how quickly they started 8 was pretty confusing as i thought they'd have an actual break. Glad they're doing it now

Maybe there is a cultural element to waiting time like Joehills suggested. That's a super interesting thought. I know I can't speak for the whole of Germany but me personally, I haven't even reached the point yet where I'm starting to wonder if something's wrong or feel that overwhelming sense of anticipation. I'm just contently waiting and enjoying the wait because I know you'll be back. But I personally can't take in too much content at once anyway. I think it's important that HC takes longer breaks in between seasons. First of all, for you as the creators, you deserve it, you bless us with your art - and for us as well. Patience is a beautiful thing. Watching content "mindfully" is a much more rewarding experience than binging in the long run.

Even if it was only delayed because of Scar, we're all happy to wait until he makes a full recovery. You all deserve a break after all the effort you all put in to HermitCraft. I missed the 19th thing, so I missed the hype anyway. Can't wait to see you all back together with rejuvenated batteries :)
Even if this were 100% as a result of Scar's health complications...what kind of a garbage human being would be upset with him for that? If that is the reason the Hermits are delaying the start (and thus costing themselves a ton of revenue and channel momentum!), then they should be commended for that level of camaraderie.

I 100% agree. FAMILY first always. Hermit craft is a family and had they did choose to wait for Scar then thats on them! Us real Hardcore HC Fans will still be when the season does start.

i couldnt follow season 8 as much of the previous ones, but i think think scar mention health issues in his videos mych, i only remember him mentioning one or twice he was sick, but nothing that would make unaware viewer its more than a cold messing his voice so he cant record.
Yes I totally agree, Scar has most likely been through more than most of us. If there is a human being who is mad because he need to take care of himself. I seriously doubt they know what it’s like to be in a hard place. If it’s because of scar they are moving the date, I commend that, that’s what a decent human being should do.
@@MazerTime no I'm talking about in the actual video Scar posted about him needing surgery and he's talking about his condition there were people in that comment section asking about hermitcraft. So the ones asking know full well about his condition since he's right there in the video talking about it. I'll admit that I didn't know about his condition at first either cause I didn't start watching hermitcraft until season 6 when Grian joined since he was the only one I really watched for minecraft stuff but those 2 interacting made me watch scar after that and thats when i found out
I'm honestly always surprised by the small amount of time between seasons. Every one of the Hermits deserves some downtime, and I'd even recommend making maybe a 15-day break between seasons normal, AT LEAST. Governments have required off days, but when you are a TH-camr you might not think about that. Please do. Love you all!

Part of the short down time is because TH-cam is the primary income stream for these players and Hermitcraft is a huge draw. Most people cannot afford to take 3-4 weeks off and lose that much revenue. And plenty of streams announce their vacations in advance and take off when needed. Some go as far as pre-recording content to have regular drops while they are out to keep the content schedule going seamlessly.
You also have to take in to account how social media can flip quickly. If there is a lack of content, viewers can and will go elsewhere to fill the void and those viewers may never come back. While we might think playing video games on the internet for a living is all fun and games, there is a lot of back end work to be done to ensure you keep your audience and maintain a certain level of income.

Even if it was scar's health that was a deciding factor for a delay, I would be 200% on board. Let everyone rest. Let scar rest. Let everyone get on track.
I think a maybe 1-3 month break between hermitcraft seasons could just be nice for everyone. It also lets you all spend more time on whatever videos you want instead of having to constantly make episodes for a series. I love hermitcraft but for me the most important thing about all of hermitcraft is the people in it, good luck with whatever you have planned and I’ll be exited to see season 9 whenever it may be!
I love how transparent you guys are with all this. HC is one of my favourite MC SMP series. I have been watching since season 4 or 5.
I feel like there's been two months of silence. Take as long as you want, but at least tell us so we're not disappointed. At least that's how I've been feeling.

@@StephanAinley There have been two months of fairly regular content, including planning for the new season, new content types from most or all of the hermits, and constant updates about the new season, including most recently a huge stream where they explained literally everything we need to know.
If your expectations are higher than that, you're not being reasonable, you're just being entitled.
They're only human, and if them taking a break, and telling you they're taking a break, and then every 2 days reaffirming "guys, we're just taking a break we'll be back soon", and then streaming planning for the next season's builds, and then streaming and just telling you about next season and answering all your questions isn't enough, I don't know what would be enough.
ive been watching etho long before he joined HC. i started watching HC with mumbo. Recently i went back to see what seasons were familiar in mumbos videos and i was surprised to find out i started watching in season 3! I think i might have seen some parts of season 2 (when he joined), but season 3 is def my first full season. I couldn't believe its been that long!
On the one hand, I miss Hermitcraft. On the other hand, I'm Really Glad y'all are taking a decent amount of time off to recharge and whatnot, because tired and unhappy creators can far too easily become lousy creators. On the gripping hand, I've had enough craziness in my own life for several months now that it's actually a relief to me that I'm not missing out on Season 9 right now the way I missed pretty much the entirety of Season 7.
When doc said “spend time with the little one” I genuinely teared up. We’re blessed with some of the greatest creators, and people, on the planet. The hermits deserve nothing but appreciation for what they do.

to be completely honest, this break was really good for me as a Viewer of the content. I really enjoy hermitcraft, and i follow a decent amount of hermits during the main seasons. This is great bc everyone is doing cool things and theres so many episodes I want to watch. However, "theres so many episodes I want to watch" eventually becomes "theres so many episodes i havent watched yet," and the sheer amount of content starts to overwhelm me. After jumping on at the beginning of s7 and going right into s8 after it, I genuinely got burnt out Watching hermitcraft about halfway through s8. Now that ive spent some time doing other stuff and dealing with other things for a while, I feel excited about hermitcraft again. So while the breaks are first and foremost for the good of the hermits, theyre also very good for the audience, whether they realize it or not

Very true. I tend to watch hermitcraft like I do episodic TV due to how long the videos are. And like TV shows, I get tired of the show eventually and need a break. On the other hand, it's nice to see things as they come out and participate in the streams. This break has been really nice.

Exactly, that was my mentality on that as well. Like. They are a group of friends, and one of them just had major surgery. It makes sense this would put a damper on the hype of the start of a season if he was not there and people were worried for him, and really not from a place of "It's his fault". In my mind, it is something that realistically is our of his control; that's not his fault.

You can also tell that they're pretty exhausted from doing season 7 and 8 back to back when doc said it would be nice to take a longer break "for once" which tells me they don't get a very long break if they get one at all

I've always loved how open Xisuma is, he doesn't mind telling people off if they're doing something that hurts the hermits, even if it's unintentional. He doesn't sugarcoat things or try to avoid difficult topics. It's refreshing to see a TH-camr who actually cares.
I quite like Welsknight for this reason too. A lot of his videos have a sentence or two that's like "Can you guys just, not...?" Not afraid to speak his mind or tell it like it is. Put the entitled back in their place :P

Honestly, you guys deserve the break. It's funny, I came in halfway through season 6. When the season ended I was happy to see the conclusion but also sad to see the season end. I thought that the server would take a few months for a break. Yall were back at it like the next day lol. I was both thrilled and befuddled.

Honestly I was always wondering when the Hermits might start feeling burn out. I would like to suggest a 90 day break between seasons and two, one week breaks around the holidays each season . ie.. One the last week of November and then the last week of December, or something like that because I know what "burn out" is and how it can ruin even the most enjoyable activity. I would hate to lose Hermits to burn out. You all make my day every episode. Love and Hugs to all the Hermits.

I've only just started watching Hermitcraft this last season, and gone back and caught up with some other seasons. To be honest I thought the time between seasons was probably going to be months. Considering a few of the hermits need some medical rest too. It happens when it happens. :)
There is definitively an audience for this sort of content, a roundtable with behind the scenes content and answering fan questions. In any case this was very interesting and very insightful.
As a disabled person especially, it really broke my heart when I saw that people were blaming the delay on Scar.
For context, I have a EDS. It's a genetic connective tissue disorder that affects how your body processes and creates collagen like proteins. Do you know what uses collagen like proteins in your body? Basically everything. That means that my constantly dislocating my knee in my sleep is directly associated with my stomach issues. While I have an amazing group of friends who completely understand that I can't participate in everything I would like to, I feel horrible when my health issues make it so that I can't do something that I've been looking forward to, but even worse when that prevents my friends from enjoying it as well. If we can postpone the plans and the majority of the group can still participate, great, we can do that. If not, I hope they have a good time and am exited to hear about it, because I don't want to be the reason that the majority don't get to do the thing.
Even if the fact that Scar, who is their friend & who already has serious health issues, literally had major surgery and was on a ventilator for multiple days a few weeks ago and needed a few more days to get better was a major reason that the hermits decided to delay the start of the season, that is a completely valid reason for a group of friends to decide to delay something if it is within their control to do so.
The reason for the delay really is none of our business, and it is not Scar's fault that he has been having heath issues for months so it is really not fair to put the blame on him.

Most doctors never check B12, and check less for pernicious anemia, even though it can run in families and is fatal if left untreated for too long.

I admit I'm not all that familiar with the latter, but I know a lot of people think Anarchy means "no rules, do whatever you want", when really it's more "no rulers", hence all decisions are made by consensus or vote involving all members of a community.

An Anarchy server for a group of friends is a lot different than a server for youtubers to use as a basis for creating content, the unspoken rule is pretty much "don't do dumb stuff that hurts other people's content", not that it really needs to be said or enforced.

I really appreciate who professional you as a group handle these sorts of controversies. I always feel a little sick seeing the community go haywire, sometimes to the point where I take a break from watching certain members. I would hope that it wouldn't be necessary to tell people to "not blame Scar" but I know that it probably is, and it's heartbreaking.
i’m personally perfectly fine with however long it takes to start up season 9. not only is it not my decision, but it gives me room to explore different types of content in place of hermit craft while it’s on the back burner
Whenever Season 9 starts, I'll be excited to see it. Until then, I shall wait patiently and quietly. All the hermits work so hard to make spectacular content, and they deserve break time and deliberation time without a ruckus from the fans.
I really appreciate you all speaking out that it was not Scar's fault. I knew it wouldn't be, but it helps so that way nobody starts pitting against each other.
I'm sure these longer breaks help y'all with your build planning for the upcoming season, I know Designing alone can take multiple hour for just a small build can't imagine how long it takes you guys
True, some of them can take this time to basically plan out the theme of their base and started base.
I've taken this time to rewatch some of the old seasons that I really enjoyed and haven't had the chance to rewatch. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed season 3 with some of the old hermits like Sl1p. While I'm eagerly anticipating season 9 I'm more than happy to wait for as long as it takes, it's not like you're all not doing anything else we can't watch :)
Scar is never to blame. He is the incarnation of happiness. Anything is worth it for scar.

All I can say is it takes me like a month just to see a friend, so the fact you have more than 2 dozen people scattered all over the world making a somewhat live series is insane and I think you are all amazing for what you each do!

I'm actually glad to have a break in between. It seems that the most fun seasons happen when Hermits are not stressed or dealing with creative fatigue, but have had enough time to get excited and mental/physical ready for the next season. I much rather watch slowerly space content by creators who are refreshed and having fun vs fastly spaced content by creators who are overwhelmed and burnt out. Hope you all the best and love seeing your unity as a group. It's really cool to see creators looking out and communicating healthily with each other, partly why I love this community so much. It seems to really thrive an atmosphere of artistic growth and companionship. I really hope Scar (or any Hermit) didn't get too much blame, that's just so inappropriate and hurtful and Scar is just an amazing content creator, he really doesn't deserve that. Things are always more complicated then they seem and making speculations, like you said, are very damaging and hurtful. Thanks for the update, hope you all had a well rested break! Excited to see what's next!
As an anxious viewer for season 9, I am overjoyed to hear the "Don't judge a Hermit's health based on the release date" as I was concerned something happen I didn't know about. Y'all have all become my favorite TH-cam content as a collective!

I am so impressed by how all of you manage to work together as independent creators to create something as well put-together as Hermitcraft. At a time where TH-cam and other sites like Tiktok are increasingly dominated by content farms and creators who are backed by entertainment giants, Hermitcraft is one of the few projects that is keeping the original spirit of TH-cam and content creation alive.

Off-topic: I like world edit tools, you could have done some of what you did at 5:42 a bit faster with a //replace air glass, a clean up phase, and then //replace glass quartz. the clean up phase could have been helped with a worldedit sphere wand that replaces glass back to air, you target the places you don't want the next phase to work on, this idea is similar to using a mask layer in a photo-edit software.

Hi! If you'd like other perspectives, along with there being a vod available on the xisumatwo youtube channel, I believe there is also a vod on docm77's twitch channel (though his vod seems to be mislabeled, but it's the newest one available), and iJevin was also streaming this on his twitch, and the vod is currently available there too, and it has hermitcraft in the title. This happened two days ago, on the 19th of February.
That moment when I discover a group of people that are genuinely hilarious and entertaining to watch, building together in a game that I have come to love more than I would ever expect. I get to learn more about the different characters and even the people behind the characters. AND they post videos like this with some seriously impressive comments. I'm hooked guys. 5 thumbs up. Keep doing you. I am looking forward to the growth and evolution of Hermitcraft so much more because of how real you all are. Fan-freakin-tastic.
This actually reminds me a lot of my job, I'm a Software Developer and this autonomous, team based, flat hierarchy is basically how a lot of projects are run. Sure, we typically have a project lead, but I'm sure you guys also have someone who helps guide meetings and make sure every important topic is discussed. The Hermitcraft viewer base reminds me of the customer, often times they have zero understanding of software development, programing, or even what they want. They get an idea in their head of the ideal software they want, but at the end of the day, sometimes its too difficult to provide on their budget or time constraint. The most important thing is that the project team works with the customer and gives frequent updates. Exactly like you guys are doing here. It's really nice to see.

I was honestly really happy yall took a fairly substantial break and are planning for similarbreaks in the future. I think it also gave the audience time to breath and rebuild the hype as well. I’m just really excited about a new season of Hermitcraft whenever it might start. The Minecraft content produced by the Hermits is second to none and I can’t wait to see what you all do once you get your hands on the new terrain generation and world height/depth.

And I was thinking, "Well you can't start without your star landscaper!" Hermits will come in and out across the season but I think the best part of the season is when you push off and see that world start to come together with everyone at once.

There's like 25 hermits these days I can only imagine even trying to get everyone together for the welcome to the new season at the start is a logistical nightmare.
I play dnd and there are only 5 of us. Even then it's a logistical nightmare. Multiply that by 5 and it's closer to a logistical horror
You simply have to be heartless if you're blaming Scars health issues for the delay of HC, it's hard enough to go through as it is, he does not need blame/stress on top of it. The only thing he needs right now is time, rest, love and support. Be kind to others.
Exactly he's human too and he's shown more strength and bravery than all of his "haters" he is truly a great person
One thing that I worry is that with people with good hearts they often blame themselves anyway. Maybe in associating Scar with it at all, even compassionately, we're causing grief? I hope not as this only just came to me after thinking for thirty minutes on the exact comment I'd leave to this video which ended up being close to what you're saying here.

@@darknesswave100 I think some of the confusion has just come from younger viewers who don't realise just how long it can take to recover even for an otherwise healthy person. The "he's been home for 2 weeks, should be fine" comments were too common.

I got into watching Hermitcraft only recently (discovered it through Grian) and pretty much binged the past 3 seasons in 3 weeks. I can't wait for Season 9 but I can wait for season 9. You guys are doing an awesome job with HC and honestly deserve as much time off in between as you need. I appreciate all you do.

Nobody is blaming Scar. I would say people are very understanding of Scar’s situation. I started watching in season 8. Didn’t find out about Scar until after. Hermitcraft is a very awesome community. One I wish I could be a part of. Because of that, I’m sure fans like me can understand why it’s delayed. Things happen. People have different lives. That’s why it’s good to have these meetings, votes and discussions. Thank you for the update.
