Completely understand and respect your direction for S9. But just so you know, I really enjoyed the storyline you created and your role playing was on-point. You did a great job.
I loved S8, but with the break-neck pace I was constantly worried Hermits would start dropping out due to burn out.
I'd be perfectly happy with S9 moving at half the pace for twice as long. :)

Yeah Impulse was breaking my mind with how fast he built his own giga base and somehow not getting burnt out. I'm still confused how the guy didn't because what he built is remarkable.
The start progress was WAY too much in season 8...season 7 had a slower more prank filled paced season start....

One thing X, When you say you are not a story teller, you are wrong- You just don't roleplay. Look at the story you were telling with your base in HC7. There are other ways of telling stories then just roleplaying and playing into the storylines like HC8 was for most Hermits.

I think that Scar is someone who's really good with that part, he doesn't necessarily roleplay but all of his builds tell a story
@@StarkeeperLen Yes. He makes sure that his builds have a story for why they exist. And that story explains parts of why it looks the way it does. Just look at his wagons in session 8.

@@StarkeeperLen What? Scar ABSOLUTELY roleplays. He's not ACTUALLY a magical wizard, or a tyrannical mayor. He's not ACTUALLY digging to the nether or flying to space. The vast majority of his videos focus mainly on roleplay; maybe not to the extent of Rendog or DocM77, but probably more than anyone else on the server.

don't get me wrong either, he did it fantastically in prev hc seasons when he did it, just not what he really prefers to do
"Duck debugging" and "rubber duckery" is sometimes taken quite literally. I've heard of enough developers/programmers actually having a rubber duck on their desk, and when they struggle with a problem they explain the problem to the rubber duck, thereby achieving the same effect. The added bonus is that you don't use up someone else's time or interrupt them in their flow, which takes time to get back into, and if you can't solve it through that way, then you can go ask around.

Seasons 6 and 7 were my favourites, but I agree that season 8 was too far. Hermitcraft is the most fun when the Hermits are having fun. If the Hermits are burning out it comes through in content. Do what you enjoy and that comes through as well.
Yeah,grian is a great addition and made hermitcraft a lot more fun with his games in s6 and s7
I really loved the gaming districts of the old HC seasons. Having everything centralized like that felt collaborative in a really beautiful way.
Yeah I think having some sort of community area of the server, like the shopping district and gaming districts, make the server feel much more together. It's always hard to keep track of every Hermit's videos, so in s8, it was like if the Hermit you watch didn't regularly fly around the whole island, then you just wouldn't see the vast majority of builds, and even then you wouldn't be able to see them in detail. Having a community area provides much more opportunities for random collaborations, which can then lead to things like the HCBBS, prank wars, etc.
X is like the tank of the Hermits. He takes other people's criticism for them.
I feel like X is in that situation quite naturally 1) he's one of if not the oldest, and in charge of the management of HC 2) it's probably a lot easier since X is the most anonymous Hermit, so it's probably way less difficult for him to properly do his own thing, and talk on behalf of other hermits

Im happy you guys are taking a long break between seasons, it'll help refresh your creativity, and will stop the ever growing chain of when one of the hermits feels the need to deliver above what is expected, which is awesome, buy very taxing, and it just gets more and more regular doing insane projects that stress the hermits out and leads to more short breaks, here's to hoping season 9 will be about the hermits having fun and not having to worry that we aren't getting entertained enough, cuz we are getting over-entertained to the point where I feel like our expectations are inflated to a point where it's too much

Season 6 and 7 were peak Hermitcraft. It felt like just watching how me and my friends interact on a server but cracked. Like everybody kinda doing their own thing but also interacting with eachother as friends. It just felt more casual. Season 8 lost me and it just felt too forced.
Grian definitely brought the server to life with the story telling

Yeah me too. I lost interest in season 8 entirely. Derpcoin, whatever Doc and Rendog had going on, the moon... Felt weird. What was that even? Resource packs?

This was it for me. I enjoyed it, but whenever anything interesting happened I had to ask myself “was this planned? Or is this a genuine reaction?” The existence of a storyline hurt all of the non-storyline content.
It kinda felt forced but i enjoyed the unique mods, the models and stuff. But it didn't feel like hermitcraft in a way? It felt like it was growing up. Its the reason i pretty much only watched grian, i dont deal well with the unreailty thing. I dont mind if Season nine takes a while to come, ;et the hermits have a nice long break
I for one really enjoy the base building and natural interactions more than the storytelling and role playing. Looking forward to season 9, you guys are awesome!

I've noticed that for some of the members, Hermitcraft seems to be a blessing and a curse. Of course their channels grow because of being part of it, but they become pigeonholed and when they make a video that isn't Hermitcraft, they don't get many views and towards the end of the season, they will often start losing subscribers. Maybe the surge at the beginning of a season is worth it, but it's got to be hard to deal with when it happens
Its hard as a viewer when you follow people for a certain form of content and then don’t get it. I don’t have time to watch all the time and it just feels like my account gets flooded with things I don’t want when the creators I follow stop doing that series for a long time. I do un-sub if I don’t want the content anymore. Nothing against the creators but it makes my account easier to manage when I wanna watch 🤷🏾♀️
@@toraokami5178 I've had mild success by just telling TH-cam I don't want to see certain videos from certain creators while staying subscribed. I'm with ya though, I follow these guys for hermitcraft not whatever other games they play. Came real close to unsubing from welsknight this season because of that.
They can obviously do what they want with their channel, I can also sub and unsub if I want. It's a free internet, unless you post covid facts contrary to the narrative of course.

Yeah, I basically ended up not watching X's eps cos I couldnt be bothered trying to understand the lore. Loved the builds tho
it was fun but because of the rapid pace i definitely fell off of watching a bunch of hermits and just was watching a few of them instead. the recap helps a ton but yeah, it was hard to follow all these threads happening

docm77 and Renthedog were best showman last season. i followed every hermit as far as even watching tinfoilchef videos and i my opinion those two guys totally nailed it despite Renthedog having problems in his life 👍

I like the whole RP thing, kinda like the civil war thing in season six and the town mayor in season seven. The moon thing was a little too forced though, some of the stuff the hermits did went against their plans for the season

Honestly the civil wars divided the community, I literally can’t tell you how heart broken I was when I saw Scar getting hate for going against Mumbo in the race.

I think the reason we figure stuff out when asking questions is that we have to frame the question to the person we are asking in a way that they can understand it. By explaining our problem, we are analyzing it again giving us an opportunity to come up with a solution.
Good therapy is you solving your own problems by formulating the right questions to the therapist. The therapist's job is to tell you whether it's a good question, not give you the answer.
Hi Xisuma, I wanna say I just like when a season feels lived in, when it's gone on a while and hermits have had multiple projects. I'm looking forward to S9 return to form and Hermits doing what they love. S8 had some of my favorite builds, and I really enjoyed how everyone grouped into neighborhoods, and it got me into watching a lot of new hermits because of it :) Cheers!

What I love most about the stories was that they encouraged interaction, I didn't care for the storylines when it didn't involve that. You can always interact without needing to rollplay, I think that's what I'd prefer.
I'll be honest you lost me in season 8 didnt feel like you but after listening to this you've completely won me back and excited for season 9!!

Personally, I'm behind taking a longer break before seasons. I'll be ready when you start it up again, even if it's a week later or 2 months later. Take some time, and return when everyone is refreshed.
I can’t believe we are up to episode 9! I discovered the series during season 3, and I watched every video from every member of season 4! Don’t watch as much as I did then but I always get excited when a new season starts
I think there is a really good balance to go for, and you definitely hit it with s6 and s7. A smudge of rp and natural storylines, like the stuff Grian did, but focused in on the builds and economy. It's good to go what you are comfortable with and what you know works. Of course, the world is your oyster and you can do what you want with it!
Seasons 3 and 5 are my favorite so far. The RP/Storyline stuff is cool but when it gets a bit silly I kinda loose interest.
I really liked what y’all did with the moon in season 8! I thought it would transition into the caves and cliffs 2 update, but when it actually ended the season I was pleasantly surprised.

I agree. I loved the minimalist rp at first, but when it started to get extremely scripted and started bending server rules, the whole thing started to feel disingenuous.
I loved Season 8, and seeing some of the Hermits step out of their comfort zones and try new things was very fun! But I’m also very glad that some have decided to return to stuff that feel most comfortable with! Season 6 was my favorite Season, and Season 7 is close in second! I loved seeing how everyone felt so motivated when working on their own projects, and while I do love roleplay aspects, I also love seeing Hermits excitedly discuss their builds and expand their ideas! The diversity in what they work in and their happiness doing it really brings a special aspect to the server, especially as a watcher!
Whatever any of the Hermits decide to do, I’m sure it will be amazing! Cant wait for Season 9, or any other projects the Hermits decide to put out!
Agreed. It's really annoying when people can't deal with change and immediately start to riot. I loved seeing how people adapted their style and content to a more established and 'planned' story line. It seemed to spark new kinds of creativity in people we hadn't seen before.
Honestly I think the real reason most people disliked S8 because the short season cut off a lot of Hermit's plans. Like, a lot of the Hermits clearly had longer-term plans that we didn't get to see. And because the "reason" the season ended was the moon crashing, they just go "GAH STORY BAD! D:

I LOVED S8 for how unique and different it felt. What you did (and others followed) with the parallels of fiat money and crypto was like a macro-finance masterclass for kids and the dangers of central control of money. Cub hacking on your first wallet was just too good to be true, and EvilX rugpulling everyone at the end... glorious
btw always consider that behind social networks accounts there could be teenagers that didnt have proper parenting to tell them how to comunicate, and they just learned how to talk with others by watching TV

Also, personally, I liked the increased collaboration in season 8 over 7 & 6 so the proximity voice chat should be a staple from now on
As to roll play and stories, that should be up to the individual members whether and/or how much they want to participate.

for what it's worth I really adored your base area in S8 and I'm honestly kinda disappointed we didn't get to see too much of it over the season. like, you showed us plenty and all, but there were so many details we never got to observe closely since a ton of energy and time went into the evil x plot instead. don't get me wrong though, that story was actually pretty cool, but man I wanted to just get an in depth tour of all the bits and pieces around that mountain village, y'know?

I'm glad they're going to tone down the RP a bit. I'm all for a bit of roleplay here and there, but I miss the raw shenanigans that came from the older seasons, when there was less RP and more raw Minecraft gameplay

About Joe filming things “live”: he films quite a bit on camera, but most of the stream is chugging through off camera work. A lot of interactions with Cleo this past season were done off camera (correct me if I’m wrong). But it’s cool to see that almost behind-the-scenes process, while still seeing new things in each episode.
I’d bet, as with all things, there’s a balance to how much you’d want to do on stream vs on your own.
It will forever be enjoyable for me though, to watch streams and have that interaction with both audience and content creator. Though I really don’t have the time to watch every hermits’ streams.
Really looking forward to just a good solid season, less rp and hermits just “playing” together. That’s what I feel most of us enjoy, it’s what made s7 and 6 soo good and would love to see that style return. Keep up the great work X.
Did s7 not have a mayor election and turf war? Most of the hermits still built mega bases during a short season while playing along with the story so I don't see what yall talking about.

Xisuma, I just wanted to say I wish I would have had you as a close friend 40 years ago. I honestly believe I would have made a lot less mistakes in my past. I always enjoy watching/listening to your outlook/opinions on a variety of subjects. You'd make an excellent positivity speaker (I know there are other names, just can't think of them at the moment) or a counselor/therapist/psychiatrist. Anyways thank you for being you!
Nice to hear some of the tidbits you offer. Such as, the process of having to explain a problem will often bring the solution, you are in effect breaking it down. You can also help people crack problems you know nothing about by asking them to explain it to you.

Listening to how you think makes me excited for more content. S8 wasn't really my style but I'm excited to see what you have planned for S9. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a stream every now and then. I really enjoyed the streams when you were working in the S7 shopping district. Those were good times
Xisuma, you have such a positive, healthy attitude towards any situation you talk about, and seeing the videos about how you came to be who you are today is very inspiring. I'd like to strive to be more like you, because I grew up in an environment where being critical and strict was seen as the better path to build a person, but it really just led me to doubt myself and have a very low self-esteem, as well as put others down, probably because of my self-esteem issues. I've been working on trying to be less critical, both of other people as well as myself, in order to hopefully become a much more positive, confident, and encouraging person.
I really liked the custom datapack with custom textures because It brought a whole new level of possibility to Hermitcraft, and I hope it returns for season 9!
I didn’t like it. It was okay in the beginning when it was very sparingly used. But at the end it started to feel no longer like vanilla.

I loved the subtitles in this video! I find I can follow along a lot easier having something to read instead of just listening.
Haven't watched this channel (or TH-cam in general) much altely but I wanna say that I love the subtitles. Even though I usually don't need them and understand everything perfectly without, having them oddly makes me understand things faster.

As much as I love evil X and your bits, you need to do what makes you happy and what you enjoy. You can roleplay and do darn good at it but if it does not feel good or you are not into it don't. Your farms and builds are what bring me to your channel and your infectious personality. Keep up the fantastic work no matter what it is.
Was I just his 100,000th sub..? I looked at his sub count and saw 99.9k and thought, "oh what the heck, why not. He's almost there anyways" and when I refreshed the page right after.. he was at 100k. I feel good.

Trying something new is always good, even if you didn't like it in the end, because at least you tried. Can't wait to see what S9 will be like. (plus I'm glad EEEskal is now putting up content with vault hunters, I'm not much of a stream person so I never really watched it on twitch, but it's cool to see the project he's been working on for so long in an edited format.)

so excited for season 9...i hope everyone takes their time doing what they want to do! i loved the addition of proximity chat in s8, and the custom packs were really funny and creative. im not into big roleplay, but i really enjoy it when people have their little character/build histories, for example Scar and his little tycoon backstory. it brings life into the world without taking control of the entire season.

I hope we get more season 6 style content, a majority of just fun building and unscripted shenanigans, but also some obviously semi planned things, like the civil war which was awesome
Good for you! Leave the storylines! Only started watching hermit craft since season 7, loved loved loved it. Was sad when it ended, was glad when season 8 started but glad that it ended as quickly as it did. You’re amazing builders and creative thinkers, love the economics in hermit craft with all the crazy shops and all. You’re a cool group, I will most definitely be back to check out season 9. Thank you all for brighting up our days in this shitty time in history!

Your a story teller through your builds. That's how I feel anytime everyone builds something. From starter home to mega base, the build is the story. You guys did a fabulous job though this last season. I started with s7 so im LATTTTE to the game. But im going back and watching your older seasons. I adore each of you and love watching your videos and twitch stream sessions - the later definitely bringing out your personalities haha. I look forward to s9. 10:30 for the whole problem solving thing, I find it helpful to write out,
1) what the problem is, and
2) what I want the end result to be.
From there, I find it a bit easier to solve the problem when you can see where you are, and where you want to be.
Everyone has their own process for how to solve a problem so do what works best for you, I just wanted to share what works for me.
s6 was my fave season, perfect story, great vibe, so many hilarious moments, exciting events and many episodes. excited for s9 :>>>>
yes! i think it was very raw as opposed to scripted roleplay, like you could tell the civil war wasnt scripted and that every event that happened like the area 77 arc was, again, (mostly) unscripted; they obviously knew some things but when they kept moving the time machine and all the diverisionary tactics the hippies used.
Obviously the hippies journey to alpha was scripted (and this is going to sound very hypocritical) but I didnt mind the mild roleplay elements of that arc. Its just when the entire season is resource packs and roleplay it takes away quite a bit from the vanilla feeling.
I feel like the amount of resource packs they used (though most are for shenanigans) takes away from the vanilla experience (before someone gets onto me about it, i know vanilla is boring for a lot of you guys). I feel like I can't say "Look at hermitcraft, its amazing, its all vanilla survival" because then people will go look at Scar's hat or something and go "thats not vanilla". Don't get me wrong Hermitcraft is still amazing vanilla or not but I preferred season six/seven in terms of gameplay style.

Gotta be honest, my favorite part of your videos are your builds! Your Base on season 6! Your work on the Season 7 spawn underwater, that amazing concrete shop and your "bee" like base build with farms, those were epic! Not that it needed to be mega or like that, but ur style is rly amazing.

xisuma you have a way with words, im glad i started watching your videos hearing you help iskall was really heartwarming!
The stuff about external processing... super helpful stuff. I worked out all my physics and math that way through high school/college. It got to the point that some of the teachers knew I was just working it out, or I sat talking it through softly to myself.
I was in a Iskall vault hunters live stream when he touched on the Hermitcraft thing and I heard a completely different story why he stopped playing. It revolved around a comment he got on a YT video he got while he was sick but he could not say it in a YT video due to the fact that he could have gotten demonetized for even mentioning it. And for the same reason I will not repeat it here.
