As I'm sure this video probably made you realize, Josh takes a lot of inspiration from Randy and has an immense level of respect for him. In fact, he has stated in the past that Randy and his music was a big part of what influenced him to go to Nashville.
this song was written by Roger Miller, you need to listen of his several songs, like "King of The Road", "Dang Me", "Do Wacka Do", "Engine Engine Number Nine", etc.
Yeah, Roger was a genius. He also wrote the entire score for a musical version of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer called Big River, that made it to Broadway. The show won 7 Tony awards and Roger won for best score music and lyrics. I believe he is still the only Country artist to win a Tony. He even took over a role in the show for a few months when John Goodman had a scheduling conflict. ; ))
The Rat Pack of Country is The Highwaymen plus Guy Clark. Guy has been referred to as the fifth Highwayman. They recorded both individually and together many of his songs.
The rat pack of country would be the highwaymen, I think. I’m glad you guys are back. I really enjoyed this version of this very famous song. Great choice of song. Those guys could sing! Thank you for this reaction. And yes, I like fruity drinks. Guilty as charged. lol 😂
Have to be honest, I sit at my computer rewatching all the videos of songs that I know that you all react to repeatedly. Quite literally my favorite channel on TH-cam. Love the videos! If possible at some point off channel, I have a guitarist I like that I’d love to see what Keith thinks of. He is not country but I’d like to see an actual music guys opinion
They've actually done quite a few songs together. All of them amazing. Can you imagine when Randy first came out some people called him Cotton Mouth.....Uggg
The highwaymen and throw in Glen Campbell and then Jerry Reed would be the comic relief. And plus both are monsters on the guitar! My list would be too big, because you have to put George strait, Randy Travis and and probably Chris Stapleton! But hell George strait, Randy Travis, Chris Stapleton and Glen Campbell would be one hell of a group themselves! And I keep thinking of the gentle giant Don Williams! Plus he play guitar pretty good himself! But damn it you got to have Jerry Reed too! So with that said, it just shows I really don't know a damn thing! Lol
Tough comparison guys. In Sinatra's Rat Pack there were only really 2 great singers. Sinatra and Dean Martin. Sammy Davis Jr was a great entertainer but not neccessarily a great singer. Bing Crosby did a few projects with those guys, but was never really a Rat Packer. So trying to put together a group of Country guys if the quality of their voices is what you're looking at, may not be a good comparison. Sinatra's bunch were hell raisers and partyers lol, so you'd have to have Willie and Kris and Hank Jr and Waylon etc. Maybe you need 2 different lists??? Food for thought for sure. Oh and king of the Road has one small 3 letter word in it that may be the most frequently misused in any song. Many, many people say "eight by twelve four bed room" but in an earlier line they tell you the rooms cost fifty cents. The correct line is eight by twelve four bit room. I heard Dean Miller (Roger's son) sing 4 bed room and I went on a mission. I found a couple videos of Roger singing live on TV shows etc and slowed it down and he was singing 4 bit room.. Just a little music trivia. Another cool trivia item is in the song that Waylon's wife Jessi Colter wrote, Storms Never Last. Liaten to it sometime. Nothing rhymes. Nothing! Great song though. One of the most often sung duets ever, and such a great song that most people don't even realize it doesn't rhyme. Anyway. Y'all stay safe and well!
Barbara! Wanted to give you a preview, “we’re sorry!” We just got your note and your box, and wow! Your belated Birthday reaction is on the way. We hope you’re doing well! -Dustin

I was going to say highway men too.

Randy was a waiter in Nashville. The management allowed the staff to sing. It is where he got his start.

I'm not much of a music guy, but drop me a link here, and I'll go check it out. - Keith
Oh I love this and yall's reaction to it!

I’m surprised how much I liked this version. What a great pick! Now, somebody please bribe these guys to listen to Whisper My Name.
So does that make me two for two? Glad you enjoy diggin up bones with randy and john.
Wow, I have always loved this song but this is the best ever!!!
I really loved this video the vocal chops were amazing
Well as far as determining a rat pack you would have to do it by decades honestly because country music has many that are on rat pack level
Valid
Wow, I have to agree with Steven. There's too many to choose from for just one pack. Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Vince...
I have to agree, too. Good observation, my king bourboniite ❤
I sure do miss seeing randy. If he didn't have a stroke I can only imagine what music he would have gave us.
You need to hear The Statler Brothers version of this.

Roger Miller's version will always be my favorite but this sounds pretty good.
