- A cover of Pitseleh by Elliott Smith, performed by Ethan Daum. Pitseleh, off of the album XO, has always been among my favorite Elliott Smith songs. It's just so beautiful. And the piano solo always really stuck out to me as an incredible instrumental that really punches you right in the heart :) I finally took a stab at learning that piano part, so naturally I had to put a full cover together.
This one marks my first "more produced" cover, which was a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy it!

Yeah I don’t know what to think about it because I don’t usually want to hear covers that are so true to the original yet I absolutely love the truth to the original here but it’s weird how much I am reminded of my friend Evan’s style of the when I met him thirty year ago… he was usually performing with his twin brother and then he was in a dance state so he had started multitracking his own vocals… and I liked it more than the actual brother but also interesting that I had met his twin first because we were coworkers and then when I met Evan we got on immediately yet I couldn’t get myself to think of him by his name but for some reason I kept fumbling and called him Ethan for a couple months… probably because I only knew one other Evan and she was my cousin’s stepdaughter. So interesting to read the singer’s name. Beautiful voice and version.. I wish I could get the guitar but I have tried to learn and I am a piano player so much more than anything else I might ever attempt with my feeble grasp on dexterity i suspect I only know accordion and piano because vestiges of past life perhaps. Haha.

Criminally underrated. This is the best elliott cover I've ever seen :) Props from someone who knows how difficult it is to get a recording this perfect, and so true to the instrumentation and tones of the original.
I started listening to elliott smiths years ago, and I haven't stopped listening to him since then, I admire your work and how you interpret it, keep it up

Ethan, you are amazingly talented! I've been working on your intro to Angeles for well over a year and I still can't play it accurately, even at 75% speed... and then you go and cover my other favorite Elliott song! The vocal harmony, perfect guitar rhythm and now suddenly piano outta nowhere! You must work incredibly hard on these covers and you inspire [and make me want to quit a little bit too :)]. Please keep at this TH-cam game, the world is a better place with your work in it and your channel absolutely HAS to blow up!

Excellent cover. I just got deep into Elliot smith myself and I’m learning some songs, your channel is gold. I’m struggling with the strumming pattern but I’ll get there. Which strings are you using? They sound kind of “dead” in a good way. And what guitar do you play? Seems like a hogstrom that looks like Yamaha fg-180. I got myself a Yamaha fg-180-1 and I’m loving it.

Hey man, love the content, you taught me how to play some of my favorite songs. The only trouble I've run into is the tuning differences in so many Elliot Smith songs. Do you use a certain gauge you use that can withstand so many different tunings? Or is it just part of the game to have to buy new strings more often?
