  • William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya, addresses the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, 20 - 26 September 2022).
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

Parroting things everybody is yapping is not original. What Africans want are actions on the ground. How does his speech help climate change and global warming? All the cash the Kenyan delegation spent going to New York could have been used to alleviate the hunger he is talking about, for many families.

Our hypocritical representative elites talk in disguise about oppressing their own people through Covid, seducing them with money, controlling them with security laws, making them dependent on fertilizers, blackmailing them with monopolies food, plunder it with energy prices and decimate it with vaccines. I don't expect much good from this powwow of distraction. - The only thing that really worries them is that the climate of belief may change. We desperately need a TRIPLE ASSESSMENT!
Just an example from me for constructive criticism: The rules of the UN Security Council and its quorum could still be modernized during the General Assembly: Abolition of the right of veto for cross-border aggressors (Russia) and reduction of the yes quorum for peacekeeping missions by a 2/3 majority. After all, all UN Security Council states already have armies that could be sent to Ukraine as part of short-term UN coordination to ensure fair (!) referendums in disputed areas .
It is often only a question of will! It would be so easy to include this suggestion for constructive improvement in one of the UN-GA statements...

Congratulations President Ruto! You spoke for the entire continent of Africa - it is time someone came forward and do that. You were right when you said the first unanimous decision to be made regarding the African Continent was at the Berlin Conference in 1884-5! Not by African leaders but by the leaders of 7 European countries. Based on their agreements, 90% of Africa was divided and colonized by those countries by 1914! The boundaries they created between the countries had no regard for the ethnicity of the people so divided nor for the natural landmarks. The pain so inflicted on the continent continues to be the source of conflict between the nations to this day!
Ethiopia, Kenya’s northern neighbor, repulsed the colonizer’s attempts and ended up being the only nation on the Continent which preserved its independence and culture. Today, Ethiopia and its leadership are fighting a modern version of the colonizer’s war of the last century. The Western nations have been preaching democratic principles around the world and are supporting Ukraine to protect its freedom but, despite Ethiopia conducting the most democratic, free and fair elections in 2021 the West decided to support the terrorist organization bent on dismantling the country! Why? Ethiopia cherishes in its history, culture and independence!
It is wonderful that as an African leader you were able to address the UNGA, but Africa must come together under the banner of Pan Africanism be heard and respected by the rest of the world. The leadership of the African Continent, the home of 1.4 billion people must work together to protect the interest of its people and meaningfully contribute to wellbeing of humanity, globally.
Meaningful opportunities knock on one’s door once in a generation. It happened for Africa some 60 years ago when freedom fighters, against all odds, fought and gained independence for their countries across the continent. The generations which followed have not done enough to build on those achievements. Today, there are young, educated, hardworking, proud, and honest leadership in Africa. Ethiopia’s PM and you represent that generation and the spirit of Pan Africanism, and I encourage you all to join hands and help Africa stand up and be counted.

Thank you president of Kenya, William Ruto for justice for the continental Africa that is overdue forgotten by the United Nations leadership. Poverty, war, starvation, ethnicity issues, health, and all the rest. African leadership must united to uplift dire issues that are problems now in the continent. "United we stand and divided we fall," is the slogan inorder to succeed the goal of political, economic, and social development. If International community are agreed with this fundamental principles, they have to come up to follow Africa's demand for the continent growth.

As usual, we are disappointed to see the absence of many persons who would do well to remain and hear what these African leaders are saying.
Still, and soon, they will have to submit to the great changes in their lifestyles, caused by the consequences of this ignorance of Africa, her great wealth and the determination of her people to maintain this wealth within their own hands, and share it at their discretion.
Current predatory rapports will be dissolved, and in such rapid succession, that there will be a flurry of confusion. The colonizers and enslavers will be found squirming under the glaring light of truth, as their sordid history is revealed to all.
They will desperately want to come to the table and pretend to have changed and make ammends, only to find their centuries of demonstrated disrespect and betrayal of the very basic integrity of human kind, have left them with no one to trust them, and the table had been cleared. They will find themselves to have become irrelevant and dismissed, even as their arrogance and greed had dismissed their victims..
There will be no hiding place for them, as the table is utterly turned..

Kenyans chose wisely it appears. President Ruto re-enforced me that the African nations are coming up to realities of governance by understanding the fundamental elements. His articulation on these off hand is commendable only one week in office.
