This is so timely for me. I’ve been competing in PL for 12 years, and have my first meet in a year and a half on 11/14. Even with all the meets I’ve done, I still get something from your insights. Thanks for the content. Also, the community in your forum is getting better by the week.
Would you consider making a video for tall lifters addressing the differences in leverages and possibly ways to turn height into an advantage in strength sports? There's no information about this topic on TH-cam with your level of quality and in depth information.
Generally how much temporary strenght gain can I expect on my powerlifts after a peak if I've been working in the 5-10 rep range for the most part? Also, is it better to peak for lets say 12 weeks instead of 6?
Depends on so many factors. What are your numbers now? Last time I peaked I added about 25 lbs to my deadlift and 15 to my squat. Also most people don’t need long tapers. I do a 4 week but could probably get away with 3 weeks. Unless you’re using loads of 750-800 lbs you don’t need a very long taper, and a higher body weight to absolute intensity shortens it even more. A 175 lbs person deadlifting 700 lbs needs more of a taper than a 300 lbs person deadlifting 700 lbs. really you just have to find what’s right, also depends on if you go straight from a strength block with accumulated volume already into the taper to try and super compensate, deload but still want to super compensate, or just only want to taper off fatigue
@@bankkozma732 honestly I wouldn’t worry about trying to peak at your point then, the window to get a supercompensation effect is so small for only about a 5-10 lbs increase that you would most likely end up messing it up and bringing fitness down or not getting rid of enough fatigue and lowering your numbers a bit. For you your best bet would be to just spend a couple weeks training the same but with maybe triples volume equated and do a week deload before you test while spending one day that week doing 3x2 with around 50% ( there’s a purpose for it and it’s supposed to be super easy) and you’ll dissipate most fatigue without worrying about missing the super compensation window. My first meet my numbers were around yours and I tried to peak with a super compensation effect and it ended up just making me almost bomb out because my numbers were about 10-15 lbs lower from my fitness being lowered. I felt great but was just weak at that point
I think he competes as a middleweight, there seems to be a middle weight and a heavy weight category and that’s it, but there might be smaller weight categories at bigger shows?
Depends on the comp but most have lightweights...some just have 231 and below (light & middleweight combined), some are sub 200, and some have 175 and below. Again, just depends on the comp level and promoter. I’ve done 5 so far and 4 have been -175, one has been -231
most comps have a 175 and a 200 weight class for men, these classes don't offer pro status tho, that's why in this standards videos he just lists middle and heavy
Every serious strength athlete should study this channel.
Your videos have absolutely changed my life. Especially your squat series. Honestly, my lower back owes you a few beers :)

Didn’t realize nationals were in Montgomery, trying to convince my wife to bring the babies to watch now lol
Looks like tickets are sold out! Stationed really close and had no idea it wad happening until this video. Shame I missed getting one 😭
@@jenix105 aww damn, you at Benning by any chance? That’s where I’m stationed
This is seriously some of the best content on TH-cam fitness right now. Do you do coaching? If so what are your prices?
I guess you could send him a DM if you want to ask about the prices, etc. Also, you may find some useful links in the description
i think he said it was like 150 and he takes not many people dont remmember how much but maybe 15 at most.
Alexander you should really consider talking about Doug Young's training methods.
Dude this channel is the gospel
Good luck with nationals dude! Release the inner savage and use your experience to your advantage
I've been waiting for this channel,
What are your thoughts on barbell medicine programming style?
Can you do a review of mike israetel hypertrophic stuff?
I second this
I think its a bit of a different game though so might be harder. As far it goes there is no set program.

Good luck on the competition
Could you please review the brazos valley barbell program? Would love to see your take on that. Love your channel btw
Great content
You should do a video on Rauno Heinla’s new deadlift program. It would be interesting to see another strongmans opinion on it
leaving comment for algorith. ill watch it tommorow :)
Will you upload the competition?
I'll cut our footage of actual events into a write up next week
Should i peak for a meet/test even though im not competing? program has a peak phase but it feels like a waste to do if not actually competing
YES!!!
I'm 6 days out wish I would have watched this earlier

@Jin brad schoenfield also has a piss poor total and knows more than any coach I’ve ever seen
Is there a lightweight category? Or is strongman only for thicc boys

@@jamesbedwell8793 I think you are correct but middle weight is like 230 or something so not very middle weight for someone who is five foot nine
