Why do dealers sell to the trade only?

"Trade only" dealers sell that way because they don't want to sell in ones and twos.
Retail customers can often be time wasters or make unreasonable bids and keeping a shop open for walk in customers who won't make a purchase can be expensive.
Only opening by appointment for traders is far more cost effective. Traders tend to buy more per visit and if you have the kind of stock they can sell then they'll visit more often.
