Thanks so much for including "We Could Be Heroes" Savino, it is a great honour. I know a lot of games last year got a bit of a bad wrap, but I will say creating a Beat 'em up is known in the industry as one of the hardest genres to create. To give you an idea, in "We Could Be Heroes" there are over 5000 frames of animation, all individually animated, which as you can imagine takes a hell of a long time to create. But that aside, I think in most cases people want to create a great game, for some they are just a brand grab where they know even a poor game will make 1000 times what a great indie game can make, but I think most want to create something great. So for me, hats off to all these guys and I hope the genre keeps getting better and better.
Out of all these games I've actually only played (and bought) Vengeance Hunters because of your glowing recommendation. I think it's telling that a game designed for NeoGeo, which you'd think would mean it's old and out of date, still felt like the best in its genre as I feel the limitations they took on made it so you really had to polish and design the game- the devs HAD to have clear ideas and execute them well to overcome the hurdles, no cheap assett-flipping here, and I think it shows in the final versions quality. I was definitely a fan of it... but I'm glad I play more games than just beat-em-ups, or this would've been quite a dull year for me.
Always a pleasure to listen in on what you have to sy TFK. Getting ready to see you in action for the new year and having fun at the same time brother man. 8^)
Me & some other beat em up fans got into some disagreements with Face from MPZ because he was crapping on Vengeance Hunters. He played the first level & decided he didn’t like it & wrote it off because it’s not on par with SoR4. I’m glad you gave it recognition. Sometimes for a game to be good it doesn’t have to be the same as one that’s considered to be the greatest. It’s good in its own way.
I believe there's space for all types of beat 'em ups and heavens forbidden every game is like SoR4. Face is an awesome dude, but we view the genre in different ways.
@ Based on things he said in a recent video I think he sometimes judges beat em ups on how well he thinks they’ll do on stream. He views a lot of them based on being a content creator & not fun. I can somewhat appreciate his perspective but the problem I have with it is that people who never played the game take his word as gospel. So if you recommend the game they’ll think Face said it sucks so they refuse to give it a chance & judge for themselves which has always been a pet peeve of mine. It’s the same with movies people hear that so & so said it’s not good so they refuse to watch it & make a decision for themselves.
As a big gi joe and karate kid fan i had high hopes and was ultimately let down. Gi joe should be a run n gun anyways, not a beat em up. Great vid as always man x
One thing that annoys me about Rita's Rewind is its another in the long line of Power Rangers games where you don't get to fight as the unmorphed Rangers. Its so simple for a beat em up. Start the levels fighting unmorphed, morph midway through the level either via power up or encountering a mini boss and fight some more then call in the Zords to finish up. Why do so many developers skip phase one?
Pretty good list man of good and bad beat em ups I did enjoy the power rangers game after the updates especially when I unlocked my favorite ranger Tommy the Green ranger and yeah that GI Joe game really sucks me and my brother was bored playing it.
🥸👍 Great video! I agree Vengeance Hunters was the best beat em up of 2024. I loved the world and art style of that game, the gameplay was excellent also. I was not a fan of Power Rangers personally, the game was too basic for me. GI Joe did not do the classic cartoon justice, that game was complete garbage I agree. Im looking fwd to Mayhem Brawler 2 this year. Thanks for the list Bro! 🍻
Yo, Vengeance Hunters at number one? Definitely gonna pay more attention to it when I get a chance. Surprised Power Rangers managed to redeem themselves. I still don't think I'm gonna bite unless they give the characters unique moves, but it's nice to know it's no longer an unbearable experience.
The thing is with the TMNT game which is based on the 2013 series the show had ended by time it hit Arcades. Also Western developed Arcade only beam em ups have always been kinda weak though they is way worse ones. Brute Force begin one of worst with its Tiny Sprites,NO real Bosses and if you punch a fire hydrant you see in first few seconds of gameplay it takes away two of your starting 3 lives. Wish Konami would do a TMNT 2003 game Collection they made 2 GBA,one DS and Four console games for it.
It has great potential, but it gets really annoying starting every play with none of the moves. And the lack of updates and DLC (outside of exA) is disappointing.
@@beatemup Didn't know it was still getting updates, and so strange it's on one platform only... I presume they get paid for updates on that format alone?
@ Oh yeah, they even got a recently update where the Samurai Pizza Cats were added as playable characters. (don't ask! XD I have no idea who they are, but seems big in JP) From what I know, Exa-Arcadia pays very well for exclusivity. And I mean, very well!
Night Slashers Remake is a travesty. Regardless of how you feel about the original (personally I think it's a really cool game with great art and a completely unique atmosphere), the remake is worse than the original in almost every way. It looks uglier, the physics and animations are all messed up, the combat mechanics are different for no obvious reason, and even in the demo I had several major bugs. It's truly baffling how much effort they put into making a worse version of an obscure game. And to make matters worse, the orignal game has been delisted and is no longer available for sale, so the remake is now the only one you can buy legally! Simply putting the arcade original on Steam with the new soundtrack as an option would've been a far superior product.
As a Power Rangers fan, that game was a huge disappointment. I could overlook some of the issues if they had just spent the time to make each Ranger more unique in their play style. Also, the ridiculous price is rough. I may pick it up on a sale. Hopefully the devs keep updating the game.
The things you hate about G.I Joe are present in Rita's Rewind and to a greater extent. I'm curious as to why you recommend Rita over G.I Joe in that respect.
Well, Power Rangers has better control, the combat is more fun, and the game doesn't glitch like GI does. As I said, being able to play the game is more important than anything.
It always hurts to see no new quality furry beat-em-ups. Sure, we'll get Mayhem Brawler 2 eventually, which has a couple, but other than that, nothing here. Maki was a game I played the demo of a while ago, and even then, it had little promise. The combat was generic and the enemies were repetitive, and it looks like they didn't fix much. But what REALLY hurts is Towerborne basically being a furry-slaughtering simulator that forces you to play as a human. The devs might as well tell potential furry players to y!ff in heII.
I assume you played Brok, right? But yeah, we need new characters in Towerborne and a furry one would be awesome! (But I own a nice wolf hat in there.)

Thanks so much for the kind words, glad you've been enjoying the game. Looking forward to adding more great stuff in 2025 and beyond! 💖
My pleasure. You guys are creating something very special! I can't wait to see what else you guys have in store!!
Thank you very much from the Nalua team for including Vengeance Hunters 😍
One of the best games I've played.
Thanks for creating such a gem!
It was far from a great year. But thank you for all the content and staying with us. Let's hope for a better year for beat em up fans!

Thanks for featuring Towerborne! With all the content coming up, maybe it can be #1 one day :-)

I love that Karate Kid was too boring to be mentioned lol. Yeah a tough year, but now where to go but up.

Pretty neat selection for sure! One thing, maybe when you announce the name of the game, have it written on the screen under the position!
🥸👍 Great video! I agree Vengeance Hunters was the best beat em up of 2024. I loved the world and art style of that game, the gameplay was excellent also. I heard that TMNT Splintered Fate was good. Never played it though. I've heard mixed things about Power Rangers but also Herbert played it.
DId you ever review Jitsu Squad? I just discovered it, and it has become one of my favorite beat 'em ups.
I didn't, but yeah, it's an awesome game. The only downside is that it was abandoned by the developer in favor of working solely to exA-Arcadia.
I bought this last week. Can't wait to play Jitsu squad with my brother.
It has great potential, but it gets really annoying starting every play with none of the moves. And the lack of updates and DLC (outside of exA) is disappointing.

GI Joe was my worst too. Absolute pap. I didn't even finish a play though.

🍿🥤
Wheres karate kid street Rumble?
It was in the middle. I don't think it was one of the 5 best or 5 worst. It was in the middle.
Definitely not a good year
Oh come on, Rita's Rewind was trash.
At release, yes, but they soon fixed some of the biggest problems and it ended up "not that bad."
But it wasn't a great year to begin with.
It always hurts to see no new quality furry beat-em-ups. Sure, we'll get Mayhem Brawler 2 eventually, which has a couple, but other than that, nothing here.

@beatemup Yeah, I've played it. I like that game.
night slashers remake isnt that bad i enjoy it
Oh yeah, it's a fun game, a bit broken and unfinished, but for 10 bucks is not a bad one.
