Looks pretty good. It works as you described. Only problem is that if someone goes to the folder and right clicks the .bat file then selects EDIT and scrolls down to "if NOT %pass%== Test goto FAIL" the Password (Test) is there for you if you know what you're doing.

FYI, you can still access the files in this "private" folder if you search them out specifically on the search bar so they're not completely safe from prying eyes; this process simply locks that particular "private" folder. I recommend naming the content files something unassuming so if someone found them accidentally they'd be less likely to open them. Still, it's a good added layer of protection.

Yes i wanted to say the same. But also a for example a video can be opened from the video playing software i.e. vlc and from there if you direct the folder it can be opened easily

This is a cool trick for people who don't know much about coding or windows, but don't encrypt important files with this since the password is plainly visible if you edit the .bat file. The folder also isn't truly encrypted and can still be accessed.

Thanks! I obviously know this isn't the most secure way to protect your data from professionals but this works just fine to keep away non-tech savvy people. Works just fine for keeping things hidden from old people.

This video is very helpful.I came across this about a year ago and locked the folder using this code. And after one year i came to find this video again to lock my folder.
I'd say this is more of a deterrent, or 'out of sight out of mind' setup, so to speak.
It works perfectly. Didn't expect to be so useful. I garantee you to 100% that it works if you do everything correctly.

This doesn't really work. I'll explain why...
1. Yes, it will create a lock effect on a folder and if you left click on the .bat file it will open a CMD window and ask you for a password.
2. All you have to do to see the "secret password" is right click on the .bat file when it has "locked" the folder and select EDIT. It will open in NOTEPAD and you can see the entire script including the password.
It might stop grandma opening the folder, but it will not work on anyone with a clue about this locking script or someone with a bit of curiosity.
Obviously. Hehhee the author missed to include in the description that this will only work for entry level computer skill. In advance user this is easy pizzy.
It is much better if the author of this just taught the simplest attrib +h +s +r

Your video has been the MOST HELPFUL of all I have seen here on TH-cam. Although it took me many tries to get it right I did finally get it to work. But can you tell me how I can save the written password code I copied to my folder for future use?
This can be easily bypassed by turning on 'Show hidden files' option in explorer, allowing you to not only see it, but also to open it WITHOUT a passcode!

This isn’t a very effective method to lock a folder. There’s a few problems with it:
1) Folder contents are not encrypted, can still be accessed with commands if someone knows they’re there
2) The password is visible in plain text. Just click on the .bat file and change the format to .txt or even just click file preview to see the password
3) the .bat file implies there is a hidden folder. If all you want to do is hide a folder just right click the folder and check properties>general>attributes>hidden. This will hide the folder without any indication something is hidden and can be revealed by clicking the view tab in file explorer and checking hidden items.
Overall, good enough to keep your grandparents out but anyone with a decent amount of windows experience will crack this in seconds.

Also if you search in the start menu for a file inside the folder, you can see it normally and get into the folder after that. Not a good solution, good try!
You have to go to Windows Search settings and add folder with .bat file to Excluded Folders list. Than no files will show up by searching the start menu.
Simple...... rename the file as per your convenience...... 🤷🤷

This doesn't encrypt the file and also one can easily get to know the password by openinh the bat file in any text editor and checking line that compares the input password with the actual password.

for anyone wondering, it just types 'attrib +h +s [folder name]' into cmd. So if you struggle to get your folder back. Just go to the drive directory and type 'attrib -h +s [folder name]'

All this does is have the same functional effect of r-clicking on your file and flagging it 'hidden' except you've added extra time to access your material. Anyone who turns on 'view hidden' (which is anyone who is actually looking for something to hide on another's PC) can see this. This vid can induce people to be careless about their data now thinking that it's "protected" when it's not.

This does not Encrypt or Password Protect the folder. It simply changes the attribute of the folder. The password in the bat file only confirms the person that did the setup is the same person and undoes the attributes. If your pc is set up to view Hidden Files this will have no effect at all.

@@GregOfficially This is because it is marked as a System Folder as well. This is a trick I have seen used by Malware to let the users think the Data is Gone. There is a setting in the Folder Options: "Hide Protected Operating system Files". When Unticking it the folder should show.
But the protected folder is clearly seen when we turn on view HIDDEN folders option. Also, one can easily open it without typing the password.

No. This actually copies the folder into a "Fully Hidden Control Panel" Then Deletes The Original Folder. Once You Access The Folder, It copies the "Copied File" To The Original Folder, Then Deletes The Fully Hidden File In The "Fully Hidden Control Panel".

Very well explained. The issue I am having is that I can type anything, and I mean anything to unlock the folder. It says that it isn’t recognized as internal or external command, file unlocked successfully. No matter what I type it still unlocks it. Is there something I am missing?

It worked alright BUT then I opened the file FolderLock.bat using Notepad and I could see the password I entered - so it is not a safe option to use!!! One could just open the FolderLock.bat file and read out the password. Also it did not work with passwords using '&' example: &Tony123

Try removing the items you viewed from quick access.
just click edit on that batch file, it will give the password, its not safe !

Just copy the code an again paste it there might be some failure in your code.....

What if anyone types the wrong password several times, will it get locked or something?
