Thanks for watching! Do not get scammed! I will only announce winners on video. I’ll pay for the shipping. No purchase necessary. Appreciate the support.
3 boys, 27,26&24. They went a few time with me and my dad when they were younger but didn't stick. After the 2020 mess they asked if they could start Hunting again with me too spend time together again, blessing to be with them. Dad had to retire from Hunting so God's perfect time.
Born in Utah and moved away when I was 1. now I 15 and moving back! Successfully drew an archery mule deer tag. Won’t have more than 2 weeks before opener to scout. Wish me luck on my first mule deer!!!
Thanks for these vids. I'm in a building stage to prepare for my first elk hunt. I had to pass on a trip this September due to budget, so these tips are very useful to finish out my gear list and prepare for my first elk experience.
Good series on this. Budget doesn’t mean cheapest version of everything. I like this angle. I prioritized (feet, sleep, pack, then worked base layer outward.) Took several years. But every time one piece became that year’s priority, the higher end stuff is still working great. Example - bought a used Kifaru frame and bag 8 years ago (the old “bikini” frame) and it’s still as solid and functional as day 1. First lite base layers, 8 years and still kicking. Once you drop coin on the good gear, it just works, dependably, for a long time. After close to a decade, I now only have to replace wear items like boots, but stuff like this video definitely got me into the woods and hunting while I built it up.
Thanks for the great feedback on the products. Gathering gear now for my first hunt, I’m going hunting with a friend in New Jersey, great info, I feel like l might not freeze my ass of now!! Looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks, guys. Love all your content! First year trying bow hunting out, chasing after speed goats in southern Idaho and possibly a bull in central Idaho! Thanks again, Dan and Tyler! Good luck to everyone on draws/hunts this year.
Just became a father this spring. Decided to make something of myself and pursue hunting. Landed archery 1st season in NM unit 52. Thank you for all the good insight on budget gear!
That Peax Solace is a fine looking sleep sack. Great video with some excellent advice to get moving into the backcountry. I’m always on the hunt for the new and improved gear and my wish list remains with a lot of wishes. I will be hunting in Nova Scotia 🏹
Hitting Colorado in September. Been a 5 year plan with my buddy buying gear during this time to alleviate the huge cost of gear all at once. Definitely have got a ton of quality gear that we have tested during this time.
This video nails it! I don't have a lot of money now, just save a build a kit. One thing that helps is don't look at the newest stuff that just came out but look at the stuff that came out last year or the year before. It's going to be quite a bit cheaper. I will be in the Oregon wilderness for archery elk! First year I've put in for a rifle deer tag since I started hunting 15+ years ago
The more I watch your videos, the more and more excited I get for September to roll around. I’ll be spending my time chasing elk in my home state of Utah this year! Let’s get it 👊🏼
I was there once with very little cash and used or borrowed anything that I could find within my budget. Army surplus stores were my go too at the time. Thanks for the gear gouge video.
Awesome video, tested my equipment I got on a budget this weekend, failed miserably! Really appreciate your insight. Especially on a budget! Hunting coastal SWWashington, before watching this I came home knowing the sleep system needed and big improvement.
Got into bow hunting from your videos and now looking to do my first Colorado elk hunt this fall. I’ll be taking my daughter who is into bow hunting with me. We started hunting 5years ago and just switched to bow last season but are slowly putting together our gear. Just got camo last year lol and have killed a 10 whitetail. Love the videos they are helpful please keep them comming .
Great videos and I’ve already used it for some gear for in Alaska this fall and years to come and am still shopping! Thank you dan for all the lessons over the years.
This was a great series on budget items for a backcountry hunt. Will be taking a look at the Black Ovis base layers. Going back to Utah on general season tag.
Great sit down gear discussion. Love the unbiased, real world reviews. Unfortunately, not gonna make it west this year. I'll be kicking dirt here in MD and Pa.
Thanks for the info! I'm all geared out with primarily KUIU. I'm stoked to have an Idaho elk tag this year! I also have CA, KS, and AZ deer tags. See you in the field.
Some good insight! Need to pick an choose your upgrades for sure! Thanks for pointing us in the right direction! I'll be Hunting ND and hopefully MN this coming fall!!
Loved this review series. New to the Elk Hunting experience myself and have 5 kids - so I appreciate the budget tips!! I’ll be hunting Elk in Southwestern Colorado this fall. Let’s go!!!
So this fall I got drawn for an Arizona archery elk hunt. I plan to hit up some fall turkey and winter Javelina hunts. Thank you for the budget reviews I do find them helpful.
Love the discussion. I have become a little bit of a gear junkie my self. Gonna be hunting with my old man this year! He drew a late rifle bull tag in arizona! Can’t wait.
Sticking to the home state this year in ND. Going into the badlands and living off your back is a next level challenge but its a blast! Thanks for all the info you provide!
Chasing bugles in CO. Great info! Camofire lights my wallet on fire🔥! Great stuff! I use a quilt opposed to a sleeping bag…lighter & cheaper than a bag. Love the content! Keep it up!
Sweet video! Another great tent option is the Paria Outdoors Bryce 2P for $180. I run that tent and am really pleased with the performance to cost. I’ll be hunting MD this year but planning to get out west in 2025!
Great video. Thank you for the review of the gear. Juat whitetails in NJ and PA this year for me. Unless by some miracle I pull a PA elk tag. Building points out west for the next couple
Great review and really good point about building your gear up over time. Being 26 and just starting out I feel like I have so many things to buy and not nearly enough money lol. Thanks for sharing thoughts on the most bang for your buck items though and where to start. Definitely helpful. Hope to be chasing whitetails this fall (NC) and maybe an Elk if I get extremely lucky with a tag out west.
Liked this video and subscribed to both this channel and the Blackovis channel. Appreciate the info! Have a general deer tag for Montana this year! Could use some new gear!
Trying to draw a special elk tag in my home state of Wyoming and trying to go help my brother with a buffalo tag in AK. So much info in this video. May have to watch it a second time to get everything.
Wassup Brothers. All that stuff is some awesome gear. I do have a Klymit sleep mat, so, besides the sleep mat you tested, everything else would be an upgrade for me. I'll be checking out some BlackOvis merino wool base layers for sure this year. What I have isn't very good. I was liking that tent until you pointed out that design flaw with the water dripping into the tent. This year I will be hunting for Colorado elk in September and whitetail hunting in Northwest Indiana from October to January. Thank you for doing this series.
Thanks guys! I will be hunting in Idaho this year for elk and deer. I'm definitely still piecing my kit together. I would still love to see you guys do a review on the seekoutside courthouse. That is my white whale right now, and I would love to see your opinion on backcountry basecamp with that.
We don't have a Courthouse to review right now, but it does look like a great backcountry basecamp option. I have the 6 man teepee and it works well for a back country minimalist basecamp shelter. couple that with a stove and you are warm and comfy.
Great video! Been following the series on budget gear and it’s been a great reference for my own setup. I’ll be hunting in Texas for whitetail season. Keep up the great videos!
Tyler really thought that out smart move bro. To look at it like what you would get if you where on budget and not just Googling cheapest stuff. Love the elkshape gear side of things keep crushing it bro. I'll be hunting western washington the coast range
Great review guys ! Really like how you break the items down and explain definitely helpful!! Will be spending time chasing elk with the bows in Colorado this fall and my son has a deer tag as well! This will be my 3 rd trip but the other 3 guys going with me it will be their first hunt!!!!
Be hitting up the great state of Texas for Aoudad and whitetail and potentially back to my home land of Alberta for mule deer. Love your info Tyler thank you!
Excellent breakdown and reminder to not spend all your money on gear, but also get some tags 🏷️ and go on adventures. I will be doing a general deer 🦌 muzzleloader hunt in Utah for my first western big game hunt. Plus I will be hunting Ohio public land for the first time since I moved here. 😃🏹🦌
EBay is great place to stock up on gear, especially when you are starting out and have a lot of gear to buy. I was able to get all of my camping gear for significant discounts on barely used items. Tons of people think they will get into something (mountain hunting, camping, etc.) then go buy full priced expensive gear only to wind up using it once and hating the activity. A few years later, they sell it at a nice discount. I was able to get vortex binos for $200 off normal sale price, a MSR pocket rocket 2 stove kit for half the cost and it was still new in the box, and tons of camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, etc.) for great discounts. Buying used is a good way to get a higher quality items that still are in your budget. Would you rather a $300 tent brand new full priced, or a $500 tent (used once or twice) for $300?
This was a great series. Thank you for doing this. Will you make a mid level or high end budget video? Im hoping to be hunting anywhere I can this fall.
I have a bunch of gear from camofire and blackovis. The blackovis merino all fell apart on me pretty quickly but worked well before they did. The gloves have all been fantastic. As for poles, Cascade Mountain Tech are excellent for the price and have been super durable (carbon fiber quick lock with cork handles) for $65. Can't beat em imo.
Thanks for the video. I've worked my way up through gear over the years but I'm always curious to see what others are using and how I may be able to incorporate it into my gear selection. I'll be hunting archery elk otc and muzzleloader deer, looking forward to hitting the hills!
Thanks fellas for the honest opinion, I'm from western Pa, I'll be hunting the big woods of pa, some suburban areas as well, im hopeing to hunt Ohio as well, possibly west. Virginia but will see. Mostly all whitetail, some bear in PA. I doubt I'll be lucky enough to get a elk tag here so not counting on that. Thanks again.
Be my 3rd heading to Colorado and hopefully points in 3 other states. 22 years old and absolutely hooked on it. I want to get to where I can hit 5 states in one year one time in my life.

This fall I will be hunting western Washington archery for Roosevelt Elk. Thank you Tyler and Dan for all the helpful information.
