I appreciate these shorts. I’m new to the channel and I’m sorry if you’ve already covered this, but I’m trying to set something like this up to compare either Current Week vs py, MTD vs. py, latest complete month vs py, and latest complete quarter vs py…all in a parameter so that. Kind of an interesting use case scenario.
Hi Logan, thanks for following along! Here are a few resources which might help. Custom Date Filter with Parameter: th-cam.com/video/PM0O3uVJ-Bw/w-d-xo.html . Selected vs. Comparison Date Filer: th-cam.com/video/l2EYtIXhm9M/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=OneNumber-TableauTutorials . And then you should be able to search out channel videos for all the individual date selections (month, week, quarter, etc.)
Im looking for an example that shows only the months for this current year, but beside them the Difference or Pct Difference when compared to the previous year for that same month. I can do this if all years are shown, using LOOKUP, but I need to only show current year.
Hi! This isn't exactly what you asked for but the concepts in this post are similar to what you're asking for. I hope it helps point you in the right direction! Let me know if you have more questions. onenumber.biz/blog-1/2021/6/9/month-to-date-sales-compared-to-last-12-months-in-tableau
Do you have a video that does this same thing but not in an deterministic way? Meaning, Oct 2020 MTD would compare to Oct 2019, Sept 2020 to Sept 2019 and so on? The method you show is helpful but only works for the current month.
Hi Joe, we do! You are looking for the LOOKUP function. Here's a blog post showing how to do comparisons for quarters. For months, just change the reference from -4 to -12. onenumber.biz/blog-1/2017/10/9/comparing-year-over-year-in-tableau
Hi, liked the video. Can you please help me in calculating YTD, QTD and MTD for the historical data. I mean I have a dataset with years 2019 till 2023 and I have to calculated YTD, QTD and MTD. So in this case I can not use today() function. I have tried other options but it is not giving me the result. Appreciate your help.
Hi Mohammed, maybe using {MAX([Date Field])} instead of TODAY() will help. Check out this video for more details: th-cam.com/video/1MjfxmmPNBk/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=OneNumber-TableauExperts
