    This material really speaks to the needs of leadership. I've been impressed by how your abilities to create content markups etc. have evolved over the past year! Great work and thank you so much for sharing.
    What are your thoughts on comparing year-over-year at the start of the year, or at the middle of a quarter, month, or week? Given that a fully completed period is not being compared, it may prompt needless discussions with leadership regarding why the values are lower than those of the previous period. How might this dashboard be modified to prevent conversations of that nature?

    This is great Andy! Basic comparisons are super important. I wonder how we can do this by parameter if we have a lot of KPIs and same time want to pick the month of the year. I believe adding this fields for 5 different KPIs would not be super easy

    Thanks Andy, I now understand why for YTD it is ok to use YEAR fucntion, but for QTD we can't use the Quarter function.

    Great Andy, but in real world most dashboards have filters and that's where these indicators get complicated, it would be great if you could upload a video with this scenario.

      Filters for what? I don’t think most dashboards have filters. At least in my 20 years of experience.

    Hi Andy
    How can I make the YTD, QTD... automatic. I mean when there's a filter on the dashboard and selecting different options chnages the metrics to either a %reduction or %increase. I want the arrow symbols/colors to change automatically

    Where do we use the date part and date trunc? I tried using the date part for QTD, MTD and WTD but I got the same results. I'm a bit confused about these two. Could you explain the difference?

    Excellent video, please is it possible in a more dynamic way? For example, it is possible to choose the month and still see the MTD. Thank you very much!

    That's a great explanation. Just wondering your YTD calculation will show value for current year but not for Year Till Date as you have to restrict sum of sales till current date of year not for full year. Please tell me if I am getting it wrong?

      I created a new data in the data set so that it would look like the most recent date was today. th-cam.com/video/Y-n2caElOj0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZrNlO2JPojRmGAXO&t=23

    Andy, i didnt quite get why you remove the Phone/Device Layout when you first opened the new dashboard tab. What is the reason for that?

    • @vizwiz
      @vizwiz  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t want Tableau to change the view if it’s viewed on a phone.

    Hi Andy - I've noticed you do the "Date" column often - I understand how it works, but am not quite grasping the why behind using it instead of Order Date. Is there a link or resource where I can find an explanation? I know its a "normalization" technique, but are there specific cases when it is more or less useful than the Order Date? ChatGPT told me "By following this approach, you effectively "normalize" the dataset's dates to the current date, making calculations like year-to-date or quarter-to-date much easier. This is particularly useful when you want to compare data across various time periods without manually adjusting the dates for each calculation." but I feel I am still not quite grasping why/when to do this.

    • @vizwiz
      @vizwiz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only do it so that the dates are more realistic and reflect the current date. You can use order date if you wish.

  • @jhcarrell
    @jhcarrell ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I really appreciate the simplicity of the approach, but this could be improved to be a more apples to apples comparison. Use previous YTD in place of the whole of last year as an example. Of course, each has its use depending on what you're trying to see, but if you want to know how current YTD, QTD, ect. corresponds to where the metric was at the same point in the previous period PYTD, PQTD, etc. will accomplish that more effectively.

    • @vizwiz
