I have no idea how you can remember all the inner workings of all the different jobs you do, to say I am impressed is an understatement! You guys are amazing!
The depth of knowledge that you have is boundless in the eyes of an operator. We flick a switch of motion a lever and we have only a rudimentary mental picture of a few bits meshing together without the realisation of the thousands of parts that are busy doing their bit. I am constantly in awe.
You remind me of my oldest brother. He graduated in 69 at the time Plymouth had the Trouble Shooting Contest nation wide any school could enter my brother took 2nd place in the nation needless to say he was a great mechanic. He was a diesel mechanic his entire life He was a huge man like you there was nothing he couldn't fix like you and strong as an Ox like you He passed away in 16 at the age of 65. I so enjoy your videos I'm retired I put my 30 years in at a coal fired power plant. Please keep making content and make sure you take care of yourself. Being a mechanic is hard on the body .. These boys work a giant Deere dealer with access to millions of dollars in equipment, parts, service technologies. . . Be pretty hard to fuck things up. And then there's that
@@geesss8675not the case at all, I’m a John Deere tech and things always can go wrong. Not anyone can just walk in and think they know how things work. Not everything is on service advisor, years of experience is the key.
I’m a case ih guy and work for case ih but man I tell you what these videos are top notch nothing better than a guy doing what he loves and and being great at it. Keep on keepin on brotha
The engineers who designed the transmissions are amazing. It is a wonder how the assembly line gets all the parts assembled correctly. It is a tribute to how everything works to get the power from the engine to the ground. We stand in awe to watch the techs working on something that is rather complicated. Thank you for showing us how it is done.
You know he is a very knowledgeable guy, and his employer knows it too and they know that he would put their company in a good light, otherwise they wouldn't let him film his work
I imagine John Deere is big enough to actually have them, but I have always felt that detailed step by step instruction manuals should be available and used for stuff like this. Especially when training or learning a new procedure/process. I love that you are working side by side training as you go but as someone who has had to learn existing process and procedures when coming into a place I have often had to bother someone else to ask a question that could have easily been answered by availability of an instruction manual. I am 100% a read the manual guy.
Great videos. From Cape Town South Africa. 40 years I started as a JD apprentice, worked on 730's, 2010' s 3010/20's, 4010/20's to the 8850 range. Combines I worked were the 55/95/95H, 952, 1065, 7720 Titan and 8820 Titan. After 10yrs of savings and my wife working I studied as mech engineer. 5yrs later I became a Pr Eng. I only have fond memories of JD. Thus I love thes e vid's.
You have admire the people who designed some of these transmissions. I agree with you that transmissions are interesting to work. I bet the owner of the tractor is delighted to watch you spending his profits. Thanks guys, very interesting video.
Just “amazed” and impressed with the initial engineers who designed and led the manufacturing of this technical equipment....Enjoy your videos and your talent.
ZK. Really enjoy watching you work on that Green Iron. Sometimes, those tractors look just like a blivete, which is 200 pounds of tractor equipment packed into a 100-pound tractor package. Please take care. Thank you for the videos. 👍
Amazing engineering. But also amazing tech that can dive that deep into a complex transmission and knows from memory. You really are a MasterTech. Well done!
Thanks for another great video ZK and Josh. I am totally amazed at both of your skills and ZK you as the teacher. ZK you really know your transmissions. And I can tell josh is absorbing what you are telling and showing him. You two are super work partners. The insides of the transmission have me blown away. Wow. So many pieces and parts and knowing exactly how they fit together is a lot to soak it to what and how to do it. Far more complicated than I expected. A lot to know and then remember how it all goes back together. I have watched a lot of your videos but this one is at the top of the list to see the inside of the transmission. My sincere compliments to you both. ZK you are a great teacher. Josh is really picking up on things I can tell. You both are excellent technicians and John Deere is fortunate to have you both. Thanks for everything. Really enjoyed this one. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.
Good work!! Keep it up!! When I'm cussing just doing basic shadetree mechanic work I'm going to think of how cool calm and collected you are when you have an IVT transmission in hundreds of pieces.
Been a heavy diesel mechanic for 36 years. Only ever worked on manual truck transmissions. Decided to build a 48re trans for my Cummins truck. Was much easier then I was expecting.
You have a good channel, you really do. I too worked for U.C.C. (utility contracting company) for several years. Thank you for posting, be good, be safe !
Its a good job you like doing transmission ZK . There is a lot of parts to remove. Hope you have got a good memory. Lucky you did not find anything to damaged . Now the fun part putting it all back together. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Zeth/Josh, just luv watching you at work. Wish I could start out again in a career with you guys. Retired now. Will keep on watching Luv ya bits Julian U.K
This narrator knows this transmission. Only thing I would suggest, is to use threaded locating alignment studs, for removal and assembling castings, even a 10lb casting could hurt not only your feet and damage casting itself hitting the concrete floor . So long story short, the thin shim should have been sandwiched in between two thicker shims for final end play. Once again, great video 👍
I'm a mobile Tractor mechanic in hay country Texas, I don't think I've ever seen a transmission this complex, I'd love to have the chance one day to rebuild one of these. Most of the transmissions I work on are either straight cut gears with power shuttle or hydrostatic utility tractor
It took a talented team to design that transmission. Putting those screens in there to stop those steel pieces from tearing up the inside, sure saved a lot of money. I wonder how those steel friction discs got overheated and warped. It was lucky you caught that before too much metal and friction material had chance to circulate with the oil, unless they have a fine filter in the system to trap very small particles, like an engine has. If you run a new small air cooled engine without an oil filter, like they use to drive a small generator or lawnmower, after the first use, if you look at the oil in bright sunlight, the oil almost looks like aluminum paint. It has millions of tiny metal particles in the oil. I have to change my small generator oil every day when a hurricane knocks out the power. Thankfully, that doesn't happen too often, even near New Orleans, where we hold the world record for the only power failure during a Super Bowl game. The next Super Bowl here is on February 9, 2025. They are now doing a complete renovation of the existing Caesars Superdome, which is supposed to be finished next summer, in time for the Saints 2024 NFL season.
It is wonderful to consider the people who originally designed the transmission and the tooling required to manufacture it. That is really exhibiting American expertise in engineering and design and manufacturing. Wonderful.
Vry diligent & cautious disassembly of jd R series IVT transmission gud2know da meshed material in screen turns out was just a factory break in period shim's pieces mor imp wur not big over da limits like highlighted by Mr Zeth if doze broken pieces r not over 6thous den just removing doze pieces cleanly will make a reliable repair of jd 8series IVT rebuild mor imp keep da green moving again
So how is John Deere for warranty? Do they still pay for the transmission repair even when it wasn’t needed? On the AGCO brand the CVT is all one and parts are not available for to. It’s real easy, remove the cab, open up a lid and theses the CVT. No splitting of the tractor at all. The CVT comes in a medal box, remove the new one and but the core back into it and back to Germany it goes. Not a lot of time at all to R&R a CVT. Enjoyed your video, great job Guys!!

I missed my calling in life being an auto mechanic for 20+ years. I wish I had the opportunity to be a JD tech. But here in Florida there isn’t much of a market for that
how do you invoice this work? all to the customer, or split between JD and customer. or does JD take it all? In my mind this should be a warranty work or godwill.
quel savoir faire!!!! Your skills is amazing, but what a frustration to not discover anything really wrong, except a clutch which is not in 100% conditions and a poor seal out of order
@@ZKMasterTech Yes I saw your first video, you think it was a problem on the hydroelectric unit. But tractor comes back to the workshop because the customer has some problems during the work. how much does the whole transmission weigh?
@ 30.32 to 30.50, the wear on the housing from the brake bands. would you consider that excessive?
No

Chunk of steel in that screen about big enough to have a part number on it
Does some of this work fall under warranty due to the metal filings that were found ?
