  • This video is about woodturning the pawn for my chess set. The turning section is a little out of focus, sorry about that, I will try to do better for the next video.

    The pieces look great, but there is one minor detail that is off between the old pawn and new pawn. There is a section of the new pawn which is convex where the old pawn is concave. If you pause at 27:37, and look where it appears that your pinkie, or perhaps your ring finger (I can't tell which), is touching the pawn, (the pawn on the left side of the screen), then you will see the convex portion I'm speaking of.
    Still, these are absolutely great pieces, and thanks for the great video series!

    I have no knowledge of woodturning but this was interesting! The pawns look rad!

    Nice to see a master craft lathe in a video, I even have the same (WEN?) chuck as well

    Hey man! It's just mesmerizing to see the pieces form. I have a chess set that I got as a present from my uncle about 17 years ago and as a kid I lost one of the pawns and I use a tiny one to replace it. But for years I've been wanting to get a replica. I use this set almost every day to analyze and study this marvelous game. My question is would I be able to pay you to make me one????

    Hey man... It is very noisy? I would like to do it in my home... And it is expensive all the staff you need?

    Enjoying the videos and I really fancy a go at this :) Could you tell me where you got the great guide for your pieces?

      +Mathieu Girard Thanks Mat :) Did you add the Pawn dimensions yourself?

    • @magimat
      @magimat  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ian Maude Yea, this was my base model, but I added some dimensions by printing it and measuring it to scale.

    Bonjour Matthieu, really enjoyed this. You said you use pennies to weight the pieces. How do you fit them in and finish the base please?

    • @magimat
      @magimat  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pennies were my initial plan. Turns out I used lead instead. Check ou my other video about it:

      Thanks Matthieu for the reply. I checked out your finish for the lead and I have poured 32 individual weights. Great tutorials and I will be using them to make my own set. Cheers.

    What is the problem with turning multiple pieces, say pawns, from a long wooden stick?

    • @magimat
      @magimat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see any problem with that, you could definitely turn many pieces on one stick.
