    Fabulous footage. Captures all the atmosphere of steam sheds now mostly long gone around the world.

    The footage of the steam crane was excellent!
    Seeing such modern steam locomotives is very interesting - There's not many places where steam locos are serviced by people in 21st century hard hats and modern equipment.

    Visited Depot full of QJs on the Jingpeng line. Crews would sell you a 5 chime whistle for US$50 but too heavy to carry while tripping.
    Rode the footplate of train engine of a brace of two QJs. Paid US$20 for memorable trip through snow and ice in depths of winter across the Jingpeng Pass. Hell in the many tunnels with smoke and fumes but most memorable footplate trip of many I have done.

      Nice! I rode from Jing Peng to Shangdian, was amazing but a bit chilly! I also got a ride from Shasagetai to Dong Sheng, that was incredible!

    Very nice footage Trevor...I guess it's gone now though.
    @2:30 reminded me of my visit to Kimberley shed in 1991...it's the most incredible atmosphere being inside a proper working steam shed.

      +struck2soon it was quite amazing. Yes, sadly diesels took over later that year. The passenger train was actuly dieselised that day...

    Wow! A 2-10-2 nonarticulated straight locomotive must have a lot of traction! However, it probably can not negotiate sharper curving rails.

      They were definitely a main line locomotive!

      It deserves a run on one of China's new high speed lines, see what it can really do with the gentlest curves. Posterity demands a meeting of 19th century tech and the 21st's.

    I know that steam on China Rail was supposed to end by Dec 31st 1999 and from then onwards I only did industrials and narrow gauge, so where exactly was this 'last outpost' on the main line- pity I missed it!

      Arch Stanton Most of the steam locomotives were running forwards. Only a few were running backwards. The smoky end is the front, in case you are getting confused.

      China is a much more advanced technological society than we are educate yourself. We are now buying trains in Boston made in China.
      China has been making things a lot longer than this country has been on Earth and will be making them a long time after this war centric culture of death called the U.S has passed.

    • @indridcold8433
      @indridcold8433 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Arch Stanton China has far more technology than most nations. I am certain your nation has less technology than China and they still have antique locomotives as well, something your nation probably does not have many running either.

  • @ScottyBr4700
    @ScottyBr4700 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I love steam engines, but using them for actual transport in this day and age tells me that the Chinese are WAY behind the times. All of the locomotives is this video were 2-10-2's that is probably to keep costs down. I would love to travel on one of those trains! I love steam!

      Can't agree with that Chinese are way behind the times. The steam engines are only used in coal mine in a few part of China, it makes sense since the steam engines consume coal, it would be convenient to supply the coal as fuel for the locomotive and saving cost. Actually the railway lines of regular transportation in China, in which the steam power had been off since 1980's, are pretty advanced.

    • @xinyiquan666
      @xinyiquan666 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1
