I did the same for all my family's clothes. However they presented it for washing was how they received it back. Even if it was just one sleeve or one trouser leg. Doesn't happen any more!🥳

I never check in the pockets bfore putting clothes to wash and sometimes when the clothes goes in the dryer there’s all kind if tissue stuck to the clothes (this goes for my husband too) I’m like I’m sorry I will dont check the pockets and will never check the pockets before washing thats your responsibility not mine. 😂
I say a video where this mom had a big container for every family memeber and everytime she would do laundry she would check the pockets and anything that she would find in the pockets she would put it in the container. And by the time their kids graduated from school she gifted that container to each child and it contained from gum wrapping, random stuff, you’ll he surprised of all the random stuff she woud find but everything woudl go into the containers. 😂
Now I’m thankful that all my boys and husband wash their own clothes. ❤

A great episode! I was sitting watching, then after a minute, I thought: Get up, listen to this, and while I listen, DO the washing up ( no machine).. dry it, put it away. Clean and polish the sink. Shine up the kettle, as your ‘future you’ will love to come down to this in the morning.
Don’t veg on the sofa, do it.
So I did. Thank you. It took me 24 minutes.
    So simple.
    I am thrilled.

Great podcast. At 3:59 in, my cat jumped on me for a treat so I stopped the podcast to get her a treat. Kitchen was a mess so I told myself I might as well fold up the reusable grocery bags I left out on the counter and put them in the car. When I came back in I pass the kitchen so I thought I might as well clean off the counter with the coffee pot and reset it for tomorrow, then I might as well finish cleaning off all the counters and start the dishwasher. I hope this…I might as well… continues to work.

@@marciamakoviecki3295 I usually clean up the kitchen at night anyway but seeing how nice it was to be cleaned up early has caused me to keep it clean throughout the day too. I thought I had been doing okay but the might as well do it now seems like a level up AND my going to bed routine is so much faster when the kitchen is already clean. I think this might as well is reinforcing the don’t put it down, put it away habit that I was trying but failing on. I guess I just needed the turn of a phrase that resonated with me. As I was listening to this podcast, I went through my shoes. I no longer have a high heels wearing lifestyle (anger they’re not good for my knees anyway) and my feet grew 1/2 size. I’m throwing two pair away and donating eight more pair. It doesn’t make a much difference in my home but it makes a massive difference in my feelings about doing more. When I look at my shoe rack, I see the difference. Everything fits and there’s ease to spare. I look at it and I have the mental space to exhale.

I've not watched all of this yet, but this conversation hits on 2 things in my life. 1 - An older man made a very nice wooden train with wheels for my son when he was a toddler. He played with it A LOT. Eventually, it broke. I threw it away. Recently I saw some photos with that train in them, and I felt guilty for tossing it. You've made me realize that NO ONE was going to repair it. My husband is not a fix-it kind of guy, and I'm not a natural at that either. Throwing it out was the right thing to do. It was finished with being a toddler toy. 2 - Make-up is not important to me. I like the basics, and I NEVER look at those fancy samples and use them. I have a lot that are good quality, but you've said the truth. They are in the way and are not serving any useful purpose.

One point with Time will Tell, is the ADHD symptom of *out of sight out of mind.* It's really just delaying the inevitable. I recenrly moved from a home of 34 years and found things I didn't know I had, but am truly glad I found. What I want is an inventory system for things that need to be stored out of sight. That would give me a fairer idea of what to toss if I still don't access it.

In the science fiction book, The Name of the Beast, by Robert Heinlein, they have to pack a small spaceship for 4 people, and they tell the computer, ‘Left boot behind sink, Right boot inside tall cupboard.’ Things are put where they fit, maximum use of space. Someone could design an app that would do that: Siri’s Closet, or Alexa’s Garage. 😎😉🤣 As an added bonus, that book is a manual on management styles. The 4 main characters each take turns being the captain, with fascinating results.

    Things that Truly Ours:
    1. Food we eat.
Not the rotten and the piled up food that stored for years untouched.
    2. Clothes we wear until worn out.
Not the piled up clothes we never wear for over a year.
    3. Stuff we use often.
Not the "displayed" only stuff without function, nor ever used, nor will be used in very near future.
    4. Stuffs and money that we donated.
Nobody can take our satisfaction from donating our excess, or the happiness in helping other people.

I did the same thing. I'm getting to the final stages and realized I didn't let him in on any of it so I helped him go through one of his "save bins" without being too pushy. After this weekend, we should be at the point where he can start decluttering his own things, which will be located in areas that only he uses -- his office and closet. That way, he can participate and take ownership in his own stuff and his own messes. Some of his areas are always messy or disorganized because I haven't helped him understand what organizational style might work best for him once he finishes his decluttering. I think he's more visual than me.

At 26:57, the question is "Do I love it, do I need it, do I use it?" My list of questions is slightly different. It is "Do I love it, do I use it, or is it irreplaceable?" Note: Just because something is irreplaceable doesn't mean I have to keep it. It means I need to ask relatives if they want it before I donate, sell, or trash it. For example, photos of or creations (paintings, drawings, pottery, sculptures, mosaics, garments, garments, furniture, poems, plays, memoirs, etc.) by family members.

Loved this episode. I have used The Art of Dec,uttering services. Not Amy, but one of her employees helped me clear so much stuff from my house. Unfortunately, my adult ADHD/ODD daughter wasn't on board. So her stuff was not touched. She has since filled my cleared rooms with her stuff and continues to shop.

I am so sorry that you made the effort only for it to be undone. At the risk of sounding cold-hearted and/or overstepping, does she pay rent/ contribute to the household? If so, was that amount based on how much of the house would be her domain? Then, could you approach it as needing to ask for more of a contribution to account for the additional space that is no longer available to you? I am aware that housing there is extraordinarily expensive in many areas (as are storage rentals), so my thought process is that this may help her view it from another perspective as well as demonstrate that there are additional costs beyond the purchase price. Additionally, she may benefit from some reflection of why she feels she needs to keep buying may be helpful since it can be symptomatic of something else going on. I know how it feels to work so hard and someone just undoes it all as well as how hard it can be to part with things that you think will make you feel safer after trauma. I wish you all the best!

Dawn, I'm very selective about the TH-cam channels I subscribe to, and your channel and podcast are my absolute favorites! Thank you for introducing us to Amy. I'm betting I'll be adding her podcast to my curated list of favorites, too! ❤

Would LOVE to see a "Judge Judy" type video with various people pleading their case to keep some little trinket; then leaving it up to judge/jury to decide. 🙂

Might as well has changed my day! Listened to this a few days ago and the amount of extra things I cleared out or made decisions on both at home and at church were 100% because of “might as well”! Don’t put it down, put it away is for sure too bossy for my brain haha .. though I did have to stop myself, cause I could get carried away 😂 what a good risk!

My major success of my thought process is the dishes which i despise.
Im an empty nester and widow so live alone , i now say DISHES take 5 mins . Big game change , just do it 😅😊.
I rid of my fantasy self as a crafter about 5 yrs ago .
Haven't missed it and category gone that i was constantly shuffling in tubs .
My ADHD fights the OCD of stuff .
I pull everything about , jumping one space to another, by the end of the day the OCD kicks in for the final put away and clean up.
At one stage of the day I look at the chaos from the ADHD enough/STOP pulling suff out , sort whats out .
Now I'm making sure a silent to do list job however small gets done amongst as well , how every small.

I thought "the spouses in Australia" was a legit question since they are, in my mind, in the Upside-Down!
BTW, inside-out garments get returned to their owner inside-out.

Right after we got married, we went to the laundromat. When we came home, my husband asked why certain clothes weren’t washed. They were not in the hamper. After I did laundry, I put away my clothes and hung his shirts, he hung up his pants and paired his socks. We both were teachers and had the same job. I bought my girls the same socks and put them in a basket in their bathroom, they paired as needed.
