I like how relaxed this is compared to other channels that insist you should spend countless dollars on equipment (sure it makes life easier for those who make a living out of restoration) when most ppl just want to fix their personal console. Although, a list of your equipment used in the description would have been awesome and useful to newbies like myself. Still, the rundown was great, thanks!
if the hdmi wont move.. heat it a little longer, let the hdmi fall out easily or you will pull the lead wires out also. made that mistake changine a ps4 hdmi
On mine the HDMI works but it makes the screen go static every few seconds thought it was the HDMI cable but it still does that with different cable no problem using av tho
Been a while since I did this but I think I might have had to replace the HDD at the beginning. I usually scan the HDDs to make sure there's no errors/warnings or bad sectors. Almost all of the PS3s I've worked on have bad HDDs, just due to age
Hey would you/someone be able to explain to me in autistic detail how to get the solder off? This is my first time ever using the stuff I’ve got my starter kit from Amazon ready to go lol
@@c8zyc1ps I'm not kidding, but the way I managed to change the port would sound like a joke,i used a stove, ok I know it sounds stupid at first, but it worked, I had to remove the HDMI port from the donor board anyway, So if it broke, I would not care, I wrapped it in aluminum foil leaving only the port uncovered and slowly bring it closer to the fire for a few seconds while with the other hand I had the tweezers to remove the port and well, as I saw that it came out, I took the risk of doing it with the console that I wanted to repair and well, now I'm playing Portal 2 on my ps3 LMAO
Where did you get the HDMI port? My Super Slim's HDMI port got damaged by my little brother and needs replaced, but I can't seem to find any HDMI ports. Thanks for the help in advance.

Tried this a few days ago. It didn't go well. First i couldn't get the solder to melt to remove the port. Eventually i got it by ripping it the rest of the way off. Then the holes where it seats had too much solder in them and i couldn't get the new port seated properly. I barely got it attached finally but it's still not in the holes as good as it should be. I'm just gonna put it back together and hope for the best but yeah i probably screwed it up worse. What heat gun is that your using? I think i ordered the wrong one. It was a mini heat gun and it wouldn't even melt the solder at all. For my first attempt at soldering id say i pretty much blew it.
Those ground pins suck up a lot of heat, so it does need a good solder iron with a good tip at a pretty high heat. I was probably doing the soldering iron around 400C The hot air station is some generic 858D. Been a while since I bought it but you should be able to find one for under $40 and it's been worth the investment
@@KylesTinkering I also thought about buying a solder sucker. My problem is there's still hard solder stuck in the pin holes and i can't for the life of me get it out so i can Seat the port correctly. I tried poking the soldering iron through the holes but a couple of the anchor points got a little tore up. Now i have a feeling the whole board or at least the part where you put the port is trashed. If i could just get those holes unplugged. At least if i attempt this again I'll have a better grasp on how to properly do this. The soldering part is easy. Removing unwanted solder, that's the tricky part.
@@jasondillon2462 Solder wick, flux, and a hot iron should get the ports out. If the wick isn't getting it add more solder till it's filled the hole and just keep trying
@@KylesTinkering Been trying that. The solder just won't stay melted and almost immediately hardens again. I've tried flux, and solder wick. I got the anchor points cleared out but those little tiny holes you plug the hdmi port into won't come clean. Only thing else i can figure is maybe a solder sucker might do it.
@@jasondillon2462 Worst case, if the holes don't clear out, just let them stay filled and use the hot air to melt the solder in the holes while you insert the new port into the board.
You can get a replacement port from AliExpress, eBay, and even amazon. I got this off eBay so I could buy from a US seller. Didn't wanna wait 4-6 weeks for one from China. I bought some more from AliExpress to have on stock after this though

Could be that the port is just loose, so it's causing those intermittent glitches
@@KylesTinkeringso what would be a fix for that?
I changed its HDMI, but I didn't understand what the update had to do with it.
