I just tried it, I like it better than Johnny Walker. While my cousin & I were driving all over Scotland, I tried a handful of different brands. A $120 bottle of Scotch, a $75 bottle, and a $12 bottle. The $12 bottle tasted the best by a long shot, not even close. Part of why some Scotch is so stupid expensive is because of material transportation costs. Scotland has some unbelievably terrible road conditions, narrowly winding around all the lochs and mountains, often with no shoulders and tons of potholes, miles-long stretches of one lane roads with only an occasional shoulder to pull off to give right-of-way to oncoming cars, constantly changing speed limits enforced by cameras....in other words, it takes a Scottish semi truck driver forever to transport supplies (grains, bottling & packaging materials, America's used bourbon barrels) because they can hardly drive over 40 mph anywhere. The longer it takes to ship any product, the higher the cost.

I love John Barr. It is a great blended whisky for its price. It is enjoyable on its own and is cheap enough to freely make cocktails. Great quality for the money. It is comparable to Johnny Black and another similar dram is Black Bottle. John Barr Black, Johnny Black, and Black Bottle would make a great blind test.
@@lesscashmoremash I hope so. Black Bottle started as a blended malt, a blend of Islay single malts. It was much beloved so when the company changed the formula to a scotch whisky there was much gnashing of teeth from lovers of the original. I never got to try the original so I have nothing to say about that controversy but the I like the current whisky. Also, it is a great price where I am. Scotch of all kinds is ridiculously expensive so Black Bottle is at a bottom shelf price here and much cheaper than Johnny Walker Black. John Barr is equally inexpensive because the importers don't know the labels. If its famous the whisky gets bumped up to stupid prices. A plain old Jack Daniels #7 is over $50, other cheap whiskies are the same but you can find some great buys when the label is an unknown one over here.

I am primarily a bourbon drinker. When it comes to Scotch I prefer a spaceside or Islay. The peater the better. At the moment I'm enjoying Buffalo Trace where to find cigar Buffalo Ten madero

I have had 400.00 bottle wine / 200.00 of scotch. its all about prestige, and not into prestige.. My go to is Tequila. But that is me.... Don't get me wrong, I try all types of scotch high dollar or medium cost.

Despite the adverse road conditions, go whenever you find the opportunity. The scenery and castles more than make up for it.

Apricot. I never pay as much as $20 for this, a 1.75 is $31. It's the best scotch for less than $20. Which isn't saying much.
