    Hi Al, wow that didn’t start out so good. Glad you found fix for the tanks. Cheese should always go with a little wine lol. Thanks to you and your videos I have to go at least look at my own camper. I think I’ll sit in it and think about what I’m going to do while trying out my new heater I got for Christmas. Hopefully next month my surgeon will say I can can do something. Good luck on the fittings for your tank. See you in your next video

    Al, it might not do any good, but I would send this video to the tank manufacturers, just show to what a scrappy job they did and how you did it right.

    • @OregonBatman

      :) I thought about contacting them, but decided to just keep it behind me now. I don't think they would do anything anyway. I did end up with something I could use... that's a plus!

    Great video! If you really want to make sure you never have leaks in the future I would have used the stainless steel screws, locknuts and washers like you did. But instead of foam gasket tape, use automotive RTV silicone. Put the screws in first, then put a bead around the ring and then tighten down. This way it wouldn’t compress unevenly like it did with the foam and it will last 20 years minimum. You would need to leave it open to cure for 48 hours then you can add water.

    • @OregonBatman
      @OregonBatman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about using the silicone, but not sure if that was safe for the fresh water tank... good thing is, if the rubber seal I am using begins to leak, I can switch over to the silicone.

    Typically those tanks would have a plastic 90 degree elbow fitting installed on top of the tank, that you can just slide on a piece of ~3/8" plastic hose that connects to another fitting just above the hose fitting for filling with water on the outside wall. This will not only allow your tank to breathe, but also will squirt out overflow so that you know when your tank is full from the outside. But you probably have that all worked out by now :)
    Buy a fill fitting that includes this vent mounting if you haven't done so yet, then it can be covered when not in use with the faceplate for both.
    cheers.

    • @OregonBatman
      @OregonBatman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well... to no surprise, I haven't got the vent hose figured out just yet. Most of the fittings you describe require a pretty good size hole in the side of the trailer, something I want to avoid. I will have a separate vent tube, just not sure how I will want to run it. I have an idea, but not quite ready.

    I might have missed 3 question in your earlier videos. Will you have a water heater or heat water on the stove? Will you have house heat and if so, what kind? Do you have a storage space for a small portable toilet?

    • @OregonBatman
      @OregonBatman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ted, great questions! No water heater this project... will heat on stove top if needed. I do have hookup for electricity, so most places that I intend to visit will have power that I can plug a portable heater in if it gets chilly. I have closet space, or use space under rear table (when turned into bed) to store a portable toilet. I'm guessing I really don't know what I will need until after the first couple of trips... I'll have a better idea then for sure! :) Thanks Ted! Cheers!

    @mr.chisels729 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, this company should be embarrassed about that product. A truly hack job if I've ever seen one. The cutout is rough. They could have used a nice round jig with a router to at least attempt a clean cutout. you're also right about predrilling the pilot holes for the ring. Nice fix!!
    Are you going to add some sort of top venting tube?

    • @OregonBatman
      @OregonBatman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally! I was worried the new lids wouldn't work because of the rough cutout. Thought I was going to have to install a flat plate on top then cut a new hole... thankfully it turned out alright! I guess the days of "quality" have been outdone by "quantity". I am searching for some way to vent the tanks... I can't find the right fittings just yet. I didn't want something very large... might take me a bit to find the right one.

    DuraCast did a shitty job on cutting the hole out I see. Uneven and jagged and the prices they charge for those tanks. I'm thinking about making a wood box and sealing it with 3 or 4 layers of epoxy for a water tank and grey water tank.

    What about the pressure relief switch your talk about in the lid

    • @OregonBatman
      @OregonBatman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The new lids have no pressure relief. When I installed the tanks, I also installed vents that relieve the pressure in the tank, so all good there. Working great! For the tank under the sink... I just open the lid slightly when I am ready to drain and it flows right on out.

  • @lenward474
    @lenward474 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this is old but why did you use tanks with such large access plate rather than a small pipe sized fitting?

    • @OregonBatman
      @OregonBatman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Len Ward! I couldn't find the tanks this size with the fittings I needed so I opted for a tank with no fittings. Needed the opening size to be able to install the fittings I used and also, comes in real handy when I want to clean out the tanks. Thanks for stopping by!

      @OregonBatman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Dank! I purchased the tanks from a company called: Dura-Cast Products Inc. If you don't mind the wait... you can get the tank that you need! If I had to do it over again, I would just purchase the tank without any fittings or lids at all. Think I paid extra for lids that didn't work at all! Threw those away! :) Hope that helps! Cheers! -a-

    • @insonh21
      @insonh21 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OregonBatman thanks so much, one more question, when you said "If I had to do it over again, I would just purchase the tank without any fittings or lids at all."
      does that mean that you would have to cut all the holes yourself or the tank would come with the holes there but no hardware?
      i guess what i'm asking is does this company sell blank tanks?

    • @OregonBatman
      @OregonBatman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! The company sells just the blank tank... you drill for any fittings or lid you like. The lids I purchased with the tanks were worthless and wouldn't hold water! I like the lids I installed better and work great! Thanks for watching Dank!
