This was a great video for those who like this look. I prefer natural patina route but this is a great way to speed up the process. As always Doc, keep sharing what you know. The knife community deserves this info, for those that aren't aware. ✌️
Love the old custom Emerson micarta after use/carry. I don't oil my micarta scales, usually. Only times I have is after washing filthy micarta scales with Dawn dish washing detergent. The micarta looked chalky, clean, and dry. I put some mineral oil on, wiped off excess with a microfiber cloth and was in business again.
Very true about natural materials. I use a lot. Antler and bone, (essentially the same thing), are very brittle. Wood is better, I like to lacquer it with clear lacquer. Protects and brings out the grain and color of the wood
I’m watching my brother oil up………….anyone else creeped out 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 love the look of the scales. Easy peasy how to video doc. Even a new e1 could understand this 💯💯💯😂😂😂😂😂😂
Do you think that it would have a significant effect on black Canvas Micarta? And is it okay if i use a seed oil? I am asking because the knife should still be food safe after this.
I wouldn't use seed oil probably break down the resin after some time u put it in polyurethane to stain ur porchs it sticks an soaks up into the fibers
@@DocP91B It's pretty much great for everything! Pleasure to spread the word! 🥰 They also have more specialized oils, but I am a big fan of their universal oil.
I'm not him, but I prefer Ballistol Universal Oil. Great for lubing, cleaning, protecting and treating many materials. It's a mineral oil with many properties and I just can't get enough of it. Also great for other stuff around the house, wood, leather, metals and what have you.
I haven't gotten my GG box yet. I called them to update the address. When I talked to the gentleman they were having computer issues so I really hope they got the update in and I get the box!
@@DocP91B if you going to apply oild do hard wax finish it will stay on, or tung oil, good wear resistance. Keep the veg oil in the kitchen not on micarta
@Jacek Siemieniuk just showing all the options. Like I said, I don't judge. Some people like the the short term effect where light oils absorb out quicker and you can go back to the natural look or try something else. I support everyone doing what they like best. I'm not here to tell people what to do, just how to do some stuff.

Boiled linseed oil works really well also, use mineral oil if it needs to be food safe

A friend asked me about caring for a micarta handle. I sent him this awhile back. Now, whenever I go there, he's always fingering one of his knives.
I use RemOil on all my knife blades and it works great for the scales as well. I really like the oiled look!

But we still wouldn't let an E-1 do anything without the supervision of 2 E-3s and a Sham Shield pretending to care what's going on.
💯💯💯💯💯💯😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
oil from your hands is good too, like like month or 2 to get covered tho
Which I like better really depends on the micarta.

ANY oil will work.

Oiled for sure. That Giant Mouse came out awesome 👍
I like it !! I may try that out on a few !
I like the look but I would have to vote all natural colors. I also like the blades of all 3.
Have you noticed any oil seeping behind screws and loosening them? I've used obenauf's to seal micarta but not oil. Same effect you're showing here.
I've never had that issue.
@DocP91B very cool to know. I think the oil might suit the job better than the wax. The wax can turn foggy if you apply too much.
No, because I Loc-Tite all the screws in my knives.
Ever tried out Ballistol Universal Oil?
I just love it!
I haven't heard of it but I'll look into it. Thanks!

I think I prefer the nature patina from the oils on your skin from use rather than applying oil. Really cool none the less
I can never get my micarta scales to stay dark. The 2 best things I've found is Sno-Seal and mink oil.
@@wizardofahhhs759 mink oil is also great for breaking in and conditioning leather boots.
Scherell's SCHAFTOL gun stock oil, as an example.
Thx for vid, they do look better it deepened the color
What about boiled linseed oil? It oxidizes and solidifies so the effect might be more permanent.

Doc I’m dying from anticipation for your B & B KOTM and going gear premium vids this month…can’t wait to hear what you think

How good is olive oil
Delicious
10W-30?
That's pretty heavy for what we're doing. You can try it though!
break free clp is the mutz nutz. 3 coats.
Vegetable oil?😂Jesus 🤦🏻♂️just dont
I'm not saying you should...I'm just saying you could. I don't judge.
