  • This is the best way I have found to dye Micarta to date. This works extremly well and far better than Tit dye on Micarta.

    Use "Rit dyemore for synthetics" for micarta and g10. It works much better than the rit for all fabrics. Also it only takes 15 to 30 seconds to get a deep color. Permanent also.

    This reminds me of pvc primer. Maybe I’ll try some of that since I already have it.

    wow, that stuff is potent
    when I saw how dark the scales were I could not believe that is the base color you will be dyeing
    the sandpaper definitely made them lighter but still I could not beleive how well that dye covers
    maybe even too well as you lose that micarta "textured look" where you have both the light & dark places
    the result color is so uniform that it looks more like G10 than micarta

    The exact video I needed 🙌. I want to do the dark faded denim look. I also want to do something to all 3 scale types.
    I think the black blade too.

    Acrylic paint sealer might be worth a try for stabilizing the dye. It adds no color, but prevents color bleeding.

    Try adding some white vinegar to the rit dye during the process. I saw OCD4EDC do it and he mentioned it helps the dye penetrate the g10. Also, I’m sure you’re aware, use synthetic rit dye

  • @DrBlazer50

    Oh man, that looks excellent. I have some dark grey micarta scales, it's not black, in a knife that I always wanted to be a nice dark purple exactly like yours here in the video because the frame and blade are black DLC coated and I think dark purple and black go together incredibly well. I don't think I'll need to lighten the color of the dark grey micarta scales, but I am interested if you've had any luck with your idea on how to handle the black micarta scales.

    Are you using the dyemore synthetic dye? I’ve used this on micarta, g10 and many others with complete success. No fading or color wiping off or anything. I don’t do anything special other than rinse with cold water and seem to lock in the color better. You probably saw on my IG but I just died these same scales with blue AND purple fading dark to light to dark and it came out pretty well. Better then my not so great photos can show lol

    • @bladesandedc
      @bladesandedc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am using the stuff at the link below and it works very well. These scales didn't turn out as dark as I wanted them so I am gonna mix some purple with a little black to get more of a plum color and re dye them.

    • @JasonLeeDeeCee
      @JasonLeeDeeCee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bladesandedc I just meant were you using the synthetic dye for your previous dye jobs, as you were saying it wasn’t holding color well.

  • @StrelokTheStalker

    Well, I would really like it if you went with a deep olive green. But like most people, I'm certain you're going to go with something corny somewhere in the purple to pink range. I hope you choose a good color.

    • @bladesandedc

      It faded a little over time, but has held the color pretty well. After you rinse it with water and let it dry a little will come off with alcohol. It won't come off on your hands or anything like that.

      How do you think they color the scales in the factory? Not sure about this leather dye, but g10 and mycarta scales completely absorb rit dye or rit dyemore for synthetics and it is permanent.

  • @BigDaddySwingingMeat

    I noticed a typo in the description box, you wrote TIT dye instead of RIT dye lol. Anyway, I will definitely try this on my micarta scales. I never mess with my G10 scales but love to experiment on dyeing cheap micarta.
