      Its very good for mono green elves in EDH. Future 20-30$ card, i'm sure there's other decks like mono green elemental tribal that would make it go nuts. Or even just any token deck that always has a shitload of 1 token. I could put this in a Prossh deck pretty reasonably because you always have 6 or more of the same token.

      Prossh is a 3 color deck so that's the cost of playing a colorless land! That's the biggest issue imo. Nyxthos can also slot into any commander deck because getting 4 devotion to any one color is easy! But people still don't just jam it in every deck because it makes colorless mana and when it's useless it's useless

      I'm not saying Archway of Innovation is busted. But I am puzzled at how everybody ignores "Tolarian Academy at home" (Archway) while at the same time going absolutely NUTS for Three Tree City, which is "Gaea's Cradle at home".
      Tolarian Academy is banned in commander. Gaea's Cradle is not.
      Archway will produce 2+ mana, if you have 3+ artifacts in play. Everybody sleeps.
      Three Tree Cityy will produce 2+, if you have 4+ tribal creatures in play. Everybody running around on fire.
      Three Tree City is... just ok.

      Sure, but that's a low power level deck in edh. A cool deck for sure but it's max a 7. There aren't very many high power level decks that will run this card. And if the card is only played by lower power levels doesn't that mean that the card is low power level? Geas cradle and nyxthos are played in cedh but will this?

      @@ToadboyMTG 7 is a meme. Tribal has never dominated the meta, but it's infinite mana in any deck that can make infinite tokens, in cedh it will have a home in wizards and maybe that new dwarf deck.
      Realistically though, all those "7" tribal decks are going to want it and outside of the cedh environment, which makes up the majority of the playerbase, it is going to see a lot of play, and Eldrazi is going to remain popular and this card will find a home in essentially every one of those decks, even the colorless ones.

    In 60 card formats it isn't fast enough, not low enough to the ground. In Commander it is just one more weapon to increase your chances to win. It is very much like Cabal Coffers; doesn't guarantee a win but certainly has been a big help on many occasions. This one will be a favorite for many Commander players.

    • @ToadboyMTG

  • @jaysillynx3190
    @jaysillynx3190 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    idk, the fact that it has the fallback of still tapping for colorless even without a boardstate still makes it fairly playable.
    Also, the whole "If you have 4 or more creatures, you should already be winning" argument might be true for like stompy dragon decks but I dunno if I'd consider say, four 1/1 squirrels tokens to necessarily be a game winning board position. However being able to turn those four or more 1/1s into extra mana can enable you to make some kind of game winning play. maybe it lets you play an early Craterhoof or something like that.

    • @ToadboyMTG
      @ToadboyMTG  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tokens of the same type aren't common in 60 card formats

    • @PaulSzkibik
      @PaulSzkibik หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the issue here is that at 4 saprolins/goblins/plants/squirrels this is just making you 1 extra mana. -> just play ancient tomb at that point. That makes you 2 mana no matter what. "yeah but ancient tombs costs like 50 bucks" -> If this costs 25 bucks and I'm not drawing it from a booster... maybe I'd just go for ancient tomb.
      Really, you're gunning for 6+ creatures out consistenly for this to be actually "better" than ancient tomb. Six 1/1 Squirrels indeed don't win you the game. But we're kind of running into a lot of IFs now, for this card to be worth 25 or more bucks and an allstay player for every single deck.
      - tribal
      - super wide
      - isn't already winning anyway
      Like honestly what is Krenko actually doing with 10+ mana? I certainly won't put this into my Ur-Dragon deck. My Necrobloom decks also would rather just play Ancient tomb and I only have so many slots for a land that will only produce colorless in the first couple of turns in my three color deck.
      Also if you're playing green and you're actually ramping, then Temple of the False god is actually decent. Just don't run Temple of the False god boros equipment.
      Like I'd absolutely not be unhappy to pull this out of a booster, but there's like maybe 1 or 2 decks of mine where I'd be like "this could be neat in there". This isn't some tribal all-star.

    i think whats good about it is its so low commitment, it doesn’t even enter tapped, so worst case scenario its just a waste, then later once ur board is bigger you can start making a lot of mana. Or commander with way to make lots of body that also like bigger spell like my griffin tribal, most my creature are the token generated by my commander each time a griffin connect in combat while my spell are mostly 5+ mana that will make my board harder to deal with or pump a lot or double them token.

    I guess it's the clickbaity hyperbole that gets you the dislikes. I completely missed the discourse around the card (only realized after clicking the video and reading comments that apparently some people are hyped about it)
    I think the biggest hint that it's a bit overrated is: Absolutely NOBODY is excited about "Archway of Innovation". Remember, Tolarian Academy is actually banned, Gaea's Cradle is not. GO AND LOOK UP "Archway of Innovation". For 2 mana investment, it gives your next spell improvise. So any equipment, servo-token, treasure (doesn't need to be sacced) or other utility artifacts can now make your next spell cheaper. You need THREE artifacts in play to have Archway of Innovation be mana positive for you. But nobody cares. Why in the world would I then get overly excited about Three Tree City?
    Like... yeah... it's a decent tribal ... payoff (?) that'll work well in some specific wide tribal decks or prossh or eldrazi. Cool. That said, really only WIDE strategies work here. So saprolings, plants etc. you need to have FOUR creatures out to have this make 2 mana for you. I'd rather Crop Rotate for Ancient Tomb in my Necrobloom deck and being three colors I have a limited amount of slots for colorless lands and this doesn't add any utility. Of course the ceiling is higher. If you have 6+ squierrels/plants/rats out, this will be great for you because that isn't a winning board state by itself.
    But that doesn't seem like 25 dollar land.

    • @ToadboyMTG
      @ToadboyMTG  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @specialk5523 hmmm I smell SARCASM.
      ok let's talk slivers. Slivers is 5 colors typically and this card only taps for colorless normally and then when you have 4+ slivers it makes mana of only one type so it won't help cast your 5 color big slivers. Plus slivers already has great mana production on their slivers with gemhide sliver and manaweft sliver (I am a fan of slivers) that's not including cryptolith rite...or just geas cradle which is expensive but legal in commander.
      What token tribal deck truly wants this? Elves sure but it hardly helps elves as elves already has 700 cards that do this anyways.
      Rats is a super casual deck anyways so this won't really change that...definitely fun!
      And I did mention goblins actually will love this card because it only takes them ONE card to really take advantage of it meanwhile most creature decks will need to resolve and keep alive several creatures to make this work.
      And hey that's casual commander...this cards not even good enough for cedh as no tribal decks are really cedh...
      And again this doesn't work in 60 card formats really because 4 creatures in a 60 card format and you have basically won the game OR it's better to just run nythos shrine to nyx.

    • @specialk5523
      @specialk5523 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ToadboyMTG Sliver Overloard can use the extra mana to search for more slivers where Shrine to Nykthos relies on devotion and slivers have a harder time fulfilling devotion than Three Trees condition (not saying you should not run Nykthos or Cradle, but this is a third option that can be met easier with more versatility). And you can use that mana with Gravemother to make her more playable because encore cost doesn’t require specific color, just value.
      Rats are casual but because most rat decks are black you can’t run Cradle so this gets them working better and because token tribal decks don’t have devotion this’ll give them another value engine.
      As far as 60 card formats go, well this probably won’t have an impact unless you’re being funny with Eldrazi or Nadu w/ Springhearted Nantuko but by the time you get this online Nadu probably has the entire landscape out and I don’t think those decks run Shrine to Nykthos or Cradle anyways.
      But saying Slivers are not cEDH, oof don’t make the Sliver community mad.

      @@specialk5523 This just doesn't work as a land in slivers. The Sliver Overloard thing is cute. But you're playing a colorless land in a 5 color deck. I don't see it. It shouldn't replace any of your lands. If you want to do tutor for huge swingy things when YOU ALREADY HAVE four or more slivers and your overloard in play, then just playy Mana Geyser: for 5 Mana (Add {R} for each tapped land your opponents control.) and get a bunch of red slivers (haste, double-strike, +x/+0) and kill some fools.
      You CAN still play this in wubrg but it feels more like it should be treated like a spell. E.g. what Brightstone Ritual is for Goblins and what Mana Geyser is for everyone.
      This land is actively fighting against you casting your commander. The very same card it's supposed to be really good with. -> If you have no filtering effects (signets, oddyssey lands) which you MIGHT actually have, then this can only be your sixth mana source after you just cast your commander for wubrg. To be able to use it to cast your commander you need like two other filtering effects for this to let you cast wubrg with 3 creatures out. It's just incredibly clunky.

    If yes, then it's a solid addition to the tribal decks it's supporting.
    If no, the tribe needs to justify why it needs or can abuse this.
    And this is asking a lot of set up. At least 4 creatures on board AND cards to play that are mostly one color or generic costs. if you're worried about budget... honestly give temple of the false god another look IF you're ramping. It's rubbish outside of decks with green ramp. But most decks that would want to play Three Tree City probably could just run Temple of the False God for like 20 cents. Just make sure you're actually ramping.

    I agree its not as good, its pretty balanced, but sucks? in my opinion its good enough since the set it comes from has ways to make tokens out of the creature cards.

      @ToadboyMTG  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Blomstermark it MIGHT find a standard home if we can find a deck that is mono colored, makes tokens, and has a expensive finisher.
      Remember what I said you need 4 creatures of the same type to be up 1 mana. That's not enough to make it worth being a colorless LEGENDARY land. So what amount of creatures of the same type make it worth it? 5? 7? And if you have 5-7 creatures haven't you already won?

      @@ToadboyMTG True, but players already build token decks with gaea´s cradle or high devotion with nyx, they still have 5-7 creatures out and not always wins.

    This is simply ridiculous. Sayinv something is the "next" thing, doesn't necessarily mean you're saying it does the exact same or has the same exact payoff. It can mean that its a similar effect and could be similar price. I'd be willing to guarantee it will see play in most tribal decks. You're wrong to evaluate these kind of cards basically saying they are no good until they come out positive. Coming out even works too. You say you should be winning by the time it really becomes helpful, sometimes that's going to be the mana that can secure a victory or cast that commander without touching the rest of your lands. Nykthos is also mostly seen in and limited to mono colored decks. Three tree city would actually do very well in a morophon deck

    • @ToadboyMTG
      @ToadboyMTG  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm willing to bet it will be irrelevant in 60 card formats because nyxthos is better.

    • @sadistksuffring1537

      @@ToadboyMTG nykthos is going to be way better in mono colored decks in general, can be pretty good in 2 color. Three tree city is just a great land for any tribal. They both will be used for specific decks and they certainly have no use in all decks. While nykthos is arguably the better and will likely see use in more decks all together, that doesnt mean three tree city isnt good in its own right. You're talking about it as if it is a one or the other scenario. Something like a krenko deck will likely run both of them. In krenko, this is arguably better because you are making tokens means you don't have the devotion. You're also trying to evaluate this on a competitive level when 90% of magic isn't played at a competitive level. Commander has also hastily become the most popular format and is still growing. In commander we see far more tribal decks and games taking long enough for there to be substantial payoff. I have several decks i could personally use it in; krenko of course, zaxara, chatterfang, urtet, marath, voja, ulalek, go shintai of life's origin, aeeve. Those are just my decks i can think of that they'd work in and only like 2 of those would actually really benefit from a nykthos. Its the same deal for cabal coffers, only difference there is you have a urborg to boost your swamp count. You know what land could do that for a mono colored tribal deck? Three tree city. Use it to get more creatures out and a higher devotion faster.

      @sadistksuffring1537 well when a card isn't good at the competitive level it sucks...magic is competitive. If everyone's playing sucky cards then sucky cards become good...
      This card isn't good enough for 60 card formats unless there is a specific synergy not apparent yet OR we haven't seen the card that combos with it yet.
      And commander is 100 sucky cards anyways...it's supposed to be fun go ahead and play sucky cards! Cedh this isn't good enough (maybe slots into 1 or 2 decks at one point due to like infinite tokens MAYBE

    • @sadistksuffring1537
      @sadistksuffring1537 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ToadboyMTG thats crap dude. Any game is competitive when you have winners and losers, its the objective of games themselves. The nature of games is to have fun. Talking about competitive magic is different, thats about finding the most optimized deck you can and generally winning as fast as possible. If that was magic as a whole, we wouldn't have goad, pillow fort, flipping or rolling mechanics, jank, stax, hug.
      You keep talking about 60 card but again, commander is the most popular format played. Value of a card is going to be determined by the masses playing it, not just competitive players. While we don't see nearly as much tribal in 60 cards formats, commander is like at least 50% tribal.
      You clearly dont play commander, that doesn't mean you get to disregard it. Commander isn't 100 sucky cards, that's how I know you don't play it. Do you know why we have so many cards that do the same thing with different names? First its so people have a more accessible alternative to expensive cards, but also so singleton formats have other options. Who cares if it isn't the best for competitive? Again, most of magic games played are not on a competitive level. Competitive isn't the end all be all. It can shift a price around but its ultimately not going to stop people from putting it in their decks. If it doesn't do good in competitive, it may drive the price down, therefore allowing us to see it used in more decks. You're stuck in a competitive mindset because maybe that's all you play but that's not a vast majority of the player base.

    • @ToadboyMTG
      @ToadboyMTG  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @sadistksuffring1537 commander is only the most popular because it's a way for anyone to play with eachother. They print like 20 precons a year and even bad magic players can play at low level tables. I WISH I could spend 40 bucks and be able to play modern.
      Yes commander is the most popular singular format...but that's because 60 card formats are broken but. We have modern, pioneer, standard, legacy and vintage. As well as historic and timeless on arena. Most players I've met play a 60 card format then play commander as a side format.

    Crazy how these days people forget that standard sets are juste that... STANDARD SETS... you know... designed for standard. Yall are so brain broken by WotC's printing of premium modern and commander sets that you forget to evaluate standard cards in the context of the standard format. It's gonna be a good land (at least 1 of) in all of the tribal decks that will pop up in standard. It's not gonna be the powerhouse that people claim it to be but I wouldn't say it sucks.
