I was raised in a very strict Christian household so I related to Nate’s special heavily. As I’ve grown older my parents and I haven’t always seen eye to eye on what I like in entertainment… sometimes I never felt like I could share the things that I enjoyed the most, until your special. When it came out, I was going home for a weekend and we watched it together. It was the hardest I had ever seen them laugh and it felt so good to have them connect with me on something I enjoyed so much. Thanks a bunch. Keep up the good work.

Then they watched Hello World actually all the way through and while I laugh at all of it, they actually genuinely laughed kinda hard at a couple of jokes!! I did career day at my daughter’s school when she was in 2nd grade. I’m an attorney and the kids couldn’t have cared any less. She asked me to do it again the following year and I spoke about being a soccer coach for my daughter’s team. It was like I was a rock star! The kids loved it.
I love Nates new special! One thing I love about his comedy is that my whole family could watch it. 2 nights ago we decided to have a movie night and I suggested Nates special. I though we were all having a good time but about 5 minits in my kids asked "can we watch Tim Hawkins, or maybe Jason Borne?" So like any good dad I forced them to watch what I want, and by the end Nate won over 3 of 4 kids.
Definitions are important and a line must be drawn somewhere. Part of the allure of the genre is its distinctness! I could write an essay on country music and where it came from and all the sub genres and what it is and what it isn’t. But to save Nate the trouble to reading and the listeners attention, I will put it as succinctly as possible. Country music is a purely American art form born out of hard times, hard places and hard people. It is music made by the common man, for the common man, with instruments that could be easily procured or made by such a fellow. Sitting in Bible class around a table with adult’s discussing how the Bible actually proves science and the teacher was talking about in Psalms there’s a verse talking about the round earth and then said “you know when we landed on the moon…” and before I could stop myself I blurted out “if, in fact that even EVEN happened”… stunned silence and then he laughed nervously and said something about it not being a conspiracy theory and moved on. Thanks Dusty, I’ve never questioned the moon landing until this podcast. I’m still having a good time!
Took a long weekend trip to Asheville with Friends in college. After driving 15 hours from Jackson, MS we found our way to Wild Wings Cafe in downtown Asheville. Everything seemed normal, wings were good, until 11pm when karaoke started. First up was a 9 y/o girl with a sweet rendition of "Let the bodies hit the floor". Then a woman who gruffly mumbled through "Devil went down to Georgia" but just couldn't keep up with the rhythm. The last was a group of drunk friends shouting "Friends in low places". This was the most normal of the group until we realized one of the men in the group was missing an eye, but had the confidence to not wear an eyepatch. The next day we saw a man in a park, playing with magic sticks.

"A Boy Named Sue" sung by Johnny Cash is one of the funniest country songs. When my son was six, he even proposed a "A Boy Named Sue" birthday party. As I was his father, I feared a drunken brawl to the death in the mud against a gaggle of kindergartners may be frowned upon by the other parents. Thankfully, he decided on a superhero themed party instead. "A Boy Named Sue" was written by the poet Shel Silverstein. Would the Nateland fellows ever write a humourous song for an accomplished singer? Aaron's musical talent probably gives him the leg up on understanding songwriting. Nate's disdain for lyrics may be his downfall (although it sounds like he put his soul into writing his serious song). Brian's earnestness and heart may create a real gem, but Dusty is a real wildcard. Please note that my son's name is not Sue (it's Xavier), and we have a great relationship. I had the exact experience Dusty described in his comment about a Big & Tall shop saying, “actually we did not plan for this.” I am currently 6’8” 240lbs, but when I went to buy my first suit as a teenager I was about 6’6” 170lbs. I walked into a big & tall store with it dad (6’2” average build). The salesman was very excited to sell my dad something, but when my dad told him it was actually me there wanting to buy a suit he just said, “sorry, can’t help you.” It seems just being very tall was not really a demographic they were interested in. By the way, just saw Nate in Vegas for the second time Super Bowl Weekend and had a great time! Nate’s dad opened at both shows I’ve been to and he is incredible too!
I have to admit that I enjoy the "wait time" when listening to Nate's responses. It's always worth it. It's not just that he gets to an answer. He gets to a profound observation. I teach high school English. It can be challenge to ignore gut-reaction answers from my students who live in a TikTok world. In so many cases, the deepest answers arrive after an extended wait time.

A Rudy moment happened for a senior on my team in high school. He caught a 7 yard pass then spiked the ball and screamed which was a ten yard penalty. So his Rudy moment came out to a 3 yard loss.
I worked for an uncle who lived in Kentucky. He was a tobacco farmer and I would help him on the farm during the summer when I was a teenager. They had an outhouse over the hill from the main house. I realized at a young age that trips to the outhouse during the middle of the night weren’t a lot of fun in the hills and hollers of Kentucky!! Love the podcast, it has become my favorite!
Yes Nate yes! Running is so great for your mental health. I was a runner in my early 20s and lost it. Got back into it after I had my second child, to keep the depression at bay. I ran my first half marathon at 9 months postpartum. Now my third child is just over a year old and I’m training for my second half marathon. It’s at the end of April. Seeing your show in Milwaukee is a gift to myself. So great to hear you’ve picked up running. Keep us posted on your progress. When is your race???

I watched an episode of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and he interviewed Liberace. Liberace said his jacket weighed 25lbs. He said the weight of that, and of his rings, actually helped control his hands when played the piano. When he was a child, his piano teacher put weights on his fingers when he was learning to play.
I had to stop the podcast and jam out to Lynyrd Skynyrd for a little while after I realized it had been awhile since I had listened to them, lol. But I'm back, keep up the great work guys!

Great episode! One complaint, the sound was kind of, like tinny, and it made the voices hard to listen to on occasion. I noticed because I was more annoyed at the wild inaccuracies and uneducated opinions where I'm usually more amused. Thanks for still being great despite technical issues!
Garth Brooks lives in Goodlettsville, TN, and can often be seen grocery shopping at Publix with Trisha. He’s known to help people with items on the high shelves or to take their bags to the car for them. I lived a few streets from him (we both had lots of land-I couldn’t see his house from the road), and about 15 years ago he did try to turn it into a Graceland of sorts. The neighbors were not excited about the traffic it would bring to our little piece of the quiet country, and he dropped it.
Nate- watched the special for the second time last night as I was falling asleep. Then today my wife and daughter were making pancakes for lunch and it made me think of your loaf of bread with sugar on it joke. While I was hesitantly looking forward to the post-pancake feast grogginess, I was informed that they were actually sweet potato pancakes, which made me feel a lot healthier. Don’t get me wrong I’m still getting an intense sugar rush from all the syrup I poured over them, but something about the sweet potato really does make a big difference. I highly recommend it!

It's excellent. 🤧Too bad country venues were/are used for gov't covert cocaine operations. Lean refers to a narcotic drink made by mixing Codeine cough syrup with Sprite or 7 up. The liguid has a purple color to it when mixed giving it the nick name Purple Drink or Purple Stuff. Is music not constantly evolving? I mean Garth never sounded like Conway, did he? Reba was never confused with Loretta. Artists like Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Lainey Wilson, etc are molding today's country just fine IMO. There's so many great artists and songs out right now. And the genre is packed with real songwriters that are singing songs they've written, songs that are personal to the artist. I love what Country music is becoming

I am curious what the smallest crowd all of you have performed for. I was at a club in peoria illinois once and it was me and my wife and one other couple. The comedian still did a full set for 4 people. His opening joke was please Nobody heckle I don't want to kick out half the crowd.
I love how towards the end there Nate started to get really quiet, but once Aaron brought up the fact that Colt Ford plays golf, he came out with a story of meeting him. I think Nate forgot people are listening to the pod and didn’t think to tell stories. Although Bison shut down Nate’s story earlier in the podcast so maybe Nate was scared to bring it up.

Sitting in Bible
class around a table with adult’s discussing how the Bible actually proves science and the teacher was talking about in Psalms there’s a verse talking about the round earth and then said “you know when we landed on the moon…” and before I could stop myself I blurted out “if, in fact that even EVEN happened”… stunned silence and then he laughed nervously and said something about it not being a conspiracy theory and moved on. Thanks Dusty, I’ve never questioned the moon landing until this podcast. I’m still having a good time!
90’s country music is hands down the best decade in country music!
Took a long weekend trip to Asheville with Friends in college. After driving 15 hours from Jackson, MS we found our way to Wild Wings Cafe in downtown Asheville. Everything seemed normal, wings were good, until 11pm when karaoke started. First up was a 9 y/o girl with a sweet rendition of "Let the bodies hit the floor". Then a woman who gruffly mumbled through "Devil went down to Georgia" but just couldn't keep up with the rhythm. The last was a group of drunk friends shouting "Friends in low places". This was the most normal of the group until we realized one of the men in the group was missing an eye, but had the confidence to not wear an eyepatch. The next day we saw a man in a park, playing with magic sticks.
Is it just me or does the audio sound considerably worse recently? Like they're talking into a tin can.
Yeah it sounds like they lost the individual mic feeds and had to rely on an overhead or something. Definitely way too roomy.

"A Boy Named Sue" sung by Johnny Cash is one of the funniest country songs. When my son was six, he even proposed a "A Boy Named Sue" birthday party. As I was his father, I feared a drunken brawl to the death in the mud against a gaggle of kindergartners may be frowned upon by the other parents. Thankfully, he decided on a superhero themed party instead.
"A Boy Named Sue" was written by the poet Shel Silverstein. Would the Nateland fellows ever write a humourous song for an accomplished singer? Aaron's musical talent probably gives him the leg up on understanding songwriting. Nate's disdain for lyrics may be his downfall (although it sounds like he put his soul into writing his serious song). Brian's earnestness and heart may create a real gem, but Dusty is a real wildcard.

Ending a country music episode with a picture of Michael Jackson’s childhood home is so on-brand for this podcast. Maybe that’s why Nate can recall nuggets of information but does not remember the episode from which it came. Love the podcast - excited for the Bridgestone show.
The sheer fact that Nate is talking about how murder and dumb in the ratings and doesn’t drop a “that’s dumb” seems like a missed opportunity. Keep up the good work!
I had the exact experience Dusty described in his comment about a Big & Tall shop saying, “actually we did not plan for this.” I am currently 6’8” 240lbs, but when I went to buy my first suit as a teenager I was about 6’6” 170lbs. I walked into a big & tall store with it dad (6’2” average build). The salesman was very excited to sell my dad something, but when my dad told him it was actually me there wanting to buy a suit he just said, “sorry, can’t help you.” It seems just being very tall was not really a demographic they were interested in.
By the way, just saw Nate in Vegas for the second time Super Bowl Weekend and had a great time! Nate’s dad opened at both shows I’ve been to and he is incredible too!

I have to admit that I enjoy the "wait time" when listening to Nate's responses. It's always worth it. It's not just that he gets to an answer. He gets to a profound observation. I teach high school English. It can be challenge to ignore gut-reaction answers from my students who live in a TikTok world. In so many cases, the deepest answers arrive after an extended wait time.
I love how Nate says he’s just a regular guy from Old Hickory, then Aaron proceeds to google Nate’s $245 tennis shoes! 😂

Hello folks! Huge fan of the podcast and I’ve seen all of Nate’s specials so far and have moved on to watching a lot more of Dusty! You guys are hilarious but I do want to give a shout out to Aaron for his sly, witty comments he has throughout the episodes. In the conversation about “mute” people, he ended it with saying that they’re hard to talk to. A Rudy moment happened for a senior on my team in high school. He caught a 7 yard pass then spiked the ball and screamed which was a ten yard penalty. So his Rudy moment came out to a 3 yard loss.
I worked for an uncle who lived in Kentucky. He was a tobacco farmer and I would help him on the farm during the summer when I was a teenager. They had an outhouse over the hill from the main house. I realized at a young age that trips to the outhouse during the middle of the night weren’t a lot of fun in the hills and hollers of Kentucky!! Love the podcast, it has become my favorite!

Yes Nate yes! Running is so great for your mental health. I was a runner in my early 20s and lost it. Got back into it after I had my second child, to keep the depression at bay. I ran my first half marathon at 9 months postpartum. Now my third child is just over a year old and I’m training for my second half marathon. It’s at the end of April. Seeing your show in Milwaukee is a gift to myself. So great to hear you’ve picked up running. Keep us posted on your progress. When is your race???

I love country music and how the songs tell a story with the lyrics bringing out the meaning of situations that many people can relate to. It all comes together and makes it a memorable song that one can remember for a lifetime. From John Denver to Alabama, It's all feel good music. Question: How many Country Singers does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: Two, one to actually change the light-bulb and the other to write a song about how much they're going to miss the old one. That's Country !!! 😊

Wish you were not out of merchandise; I would have bought a hat. I’m a big fan, I was a little star struck when I saw you, Thanks for the picture with my wife and I, I was the one with the wolf howling at the moon shirt on. Tell your manager to book the 7th Street Theater in Hoquiam Washington, it seats 1000 people and I know you would sell it out, it would save me travel time next time you’re in the area or I’m probably going to have to take another vacation this summer and see you in Pendleton. Hey bear! I wonder if Brian keeps track of the names of the people who get their comments read every episode, like on a spreadsheet. Does he ever choose a comment, but then see that they've already had a couple comments read before so he'll choose a different one. After going to Hollywood, Nate must love being back home and being able to have these guys to talk to. I know he has to do the whole Hollywood promotion circuit, but the secular emptiness must drain him. I love all the guys on here.

I watched an episode of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and he interviewed Liberace. Liberace said his jacket weighed 25lbs. He said the weight of that, and of his rings, actually helped control his hands when played the piano. When he was a child, his piano teacher put weights on his fingers when he was learning to play.

When Nate is talking about running, he is 100% right! I love running and it’s such a great way to relax and let loose. I am a runner, so if you want to run in Dayton when you come in June, let me know! (But I don’t stop and walk, I run the whole time)
Great episode! One complaint, the sound was kind of, like tinny, and it made the voices hard to listen to on occasion. I noticed because I was more annoyed at the wild inaccuracies and uneducated opinions where I'm usually more amused. Thanks for still being great despite technical issues!

Garth Brooks lives in Goodlettsville, TN, and can often be seen grocery shopping at Publix with Trisha. He’s known to help people with items on the high shelves or to take their bags to the car for them. I lived a few streets from him (we both had lots of land-I couldn’t see his house from the road), and about 15 years ago he did try to turn it into a Graceland of sorts. The neighbors were not excited about the traffic it would bring to our little piece of the quiet country, and he dropped it.

Nate- watched the special for the second time last night as I was falling asleep. Then today my wife and daughter were making pancakes for lunch and it made me think of your loaf of bread with sugar on it joke. While I was hesitantly looking forward to the post-pancake feast grogginess, I was informed that they were actually sweet potato pancakes, which made me feel a lot healthier. Don’t get me wrong I’m still getting an intense sugar rush from all the syrup I poured over them, but something about the sweet potato really does make a big difference. I highly recommend it!
Dusty is the king of callbacks. “You thought it was Larry the Cable Guy” was so good and it’s like Nate didn’t know what he was referencing. Makes me think maybe Dusty is the only one paying attention to anyone else.

So, I was listening to Braunschweiger talk about the first Country Radio Station being WSM (We Shield Millions) it made me think of the super station here is Chicago called WLS. This was started by Sears, Roebuck Co. back in 1924. WLS stands for Worlds Largest Store. Some useful trivia for your next visit to Chi-Town!

I don't think they should be allowed to talk about country without mentioning the great guitarist and producer Chet Atkins. The man basically invented the classic Nashville sound and was possibly the greatest guitarist to ever live.

She wrote over 2,500 songs, and was friends with Elvis for about 18 yrs. Just watched a good documentary about her the other day "Dottie Rambo-More than the Music". Charlie Daniels narrates it. It's excellent.

Dottie's father made her choose between him and God when she was 12, and she had to leave home because guess who she picked.......

Artists like Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Lainey Wilson, etc are molding today's country just fine IMO. There's so many great artists and songs out right now. And the genre is packed with real songwriters that are singing songs they've written, songs that are personal to the artist. I love what Country music is becoming

1:12:00 - Dusty said he thinks of country as a combination of Blues and Bluegrass. Country music is actually older than Bluegrass, the Opry had existed for quite a while before bluegrass was created.

I am curious what the smallest crowd all of you have performed for. I was at a club in peoria illinois once and it was me and my wife and one other couple. The comedian still did a full set for 4 people. His opening joke was please Nobody heckle I don't want to kick out half the crowd.
I love how towards the end there Nate started to get really quiet, but once Aaron brought up the fact that Colt Ford plays golf, he came out with a story of meeting him. I think Nate forgot people are listening to the pod and didn’t think to tell stories. Although Bison shut down Nate’s story earlier in the podcast so maybe Nate was scared to bring it up.
Can’t believe between Bloomington’s research and Dusty’s own standup material there was no mention of Alan Jackson - aka the true king of 90s country.
