I loved 5 and the capsule mechanic so much, it made the game so fun and chaotic, and we would always make a danger zone area with tons of capsules. Just hearing all the capsule effects all in a row makes me wanna go back and play it so bad!
Your reviews never take into account that for some people the newest system is their first nintendo system. My first mario party was 9 and that was as a grown man. Lots of people are experiencing it now for the first time on switch. That more than anything is why they keep making them. Personally I'm going to keep playing nine because for me, that was the first and best.
And yet despite this series originally having a new game every year, it was still less oversaturated then "Call Of Duty" cause at least with MP 1-8, they each still had their own identity.
You really only get like 2 Mario Party games anyway. My family had 2 and 8. I played some of the others with people over discord but after that not so much.
I was thinking of doing a follow up video for my Smash DLC discussion once all the Fighter DLC is finished, but it all depends on if I have anything new to say/whether or not I'd even want to be that toxic again. No promises though
These long retrospectives are always such a treat. Pretty valid point I guess, it's definitely a weaker series. I only personally like 6 and 7 in hindsight now, though I play 4 / 5 with some friends also who prefer those ones. I kind of think they're bad in comparison, but prefer the GameCube games the most. I liked 6 a lot, and though 7 didn't add a lot, I felt like it was a better balanced game than 6, which was a much better balanced game than 5. Surprised you didn't talk too much about the minigames though. They're honestly what make the series what it is for me. Some of my personal favorites are Pushy Penguins, Booksquirm, Track & Yield, Fun Run, Lift Leapers, Flashfright, Take me Ohm, and games like Sunday Drivers / Hip Hop Drop. Also loved the pure RNG battle games like Bowser's Big Blast and Deck Hands, i always found them hilarious. Also really liked some of the other content, like Dunk Bros and the MP6 maze / mic games. Also always liked watching people play the DK minigame A Bridge too Short, because on the rare instance where DK picks the right path 4/4 times and wins, it's always hilarious. Definitely a game you need 3 dedicated other friends to enjoy to it's highest potential

Since you haven't played Mario Party DS, I thought I'd say it's surprisingly solid and worthy of being in the "good Mario Party game" pile. It's a standard Mario Party game similar to 6-8, with the usual item system and the boards being mostly traditional, but the minigames are quite good. The fact that you can get a full multiplayer experience with a single cart is great, especially since literally everyone has a DS or 3DS.
To be fair, you could also do full multiplayer with a single cart with every single home console entry! Honestly though, I do have a huge bias for not liking handheld games, so throwing it away in that situation was kind of my way of recusing myself from the discussion.

@hypercharge I urge you to play Mario party Ds is actually really good, here’s why, the story mode it’s pretty good the Ds download are pretty good and they have competitions where you can battle in mini games and see how well you can do. It’s pretty good and I really do think you should at the least watch a video on it or summin.
Mario Party DS was hella underrated. Even though this might just seem like “generic Mario Party, but handheld” it really innovates in a lot of positive ways. Firstly, the ENTIRE GAME including the boards and minigames utilizes this gimmick of everything being small, which is cute, fun, and very creative! Secondly, the capsule system has been simplified to a point where it makes sense for it to co-exist with an item system. So, that’s nice. Thirdly, the minigames utilize the console’s unique capabilities very well I think. Like, the mic in Mario Party 7 was stupid because of how it slowed to boards down and how it was used in minigames, but in DS, the blow minigames often have a little more going on in them. The touch and dual screen mini games are also very well done.
