Update: Massive UK Transport Test failure would ordinarily have meant the car would have been set for the scrapyard but…thanks to the diligence of my mechanic, key replacement parts were procured at a fraction of the new cost and installed…My Abarth Lives again…Just by the skin of its teeth!

Enjoyed that update Rich, yep we have a little Fiat Panda for tip runs etc and I’m waiting for the rear subframe to be deemed ‘rusted out’ but until then the breathless roller skate in my case keeps going😂. Now another car which is disappointing for rust underneath is the MX5 and that includes the latest one. Really there is no excuse nowadays for that and it’s got to be penny pinching at manufacture. Thanks Kevin...To be fair the car has now clocked up over 150k miles...maybe this is the UK climate limit of the drivetrain? The part itself here wasn';t the hindrance in the end it was the costly labour charge for fitting.

These cars if looked after can definitely go the distance! There’s one Abarth owner in the USA , her Abarth has done 175,000 miles only having regular servicing and car has original engine 🤩

That’s really impressive! Less moisture in her climate too so less likely to have the rear axle rust out. 👍

rear axel rust, same problem with the old smal fiats, cinquecento and seicento, the italians never learn....

To be fair the old Fiats rusted throughout, this was local to the rear axle, the bodywork is in surprisingly good condition for a 150k+ Fiat! 😀
