I Bought the CHEAPEST Lotus Emira IN THE WORLD!
Sticky knobs x
Awful dilemma! 😅
So you're the guy who knowingly bought an Emira with warranty issues from a dealer (the sales staff surely can't have believed their luck with a customer like you when they managed to offload this particular Emira...) then both expected another different dealer to remedy all the warranty work & you even started attempting to deal directly with the Lotus Cars factory service personnel... What a nightmare customer you are...🙄
No, you're wrong...such a shame that you did not put as much tenacious effort into your information research as you did into this attempt at vitriol.
No vitriol, but I genuinely feel sorry for Lotus Cars with the content you are producing. It's a first edition car with known warranty issues, & jesus wept you are making such a big deal about these issues for clicks & views...
If you had actually watched the videos you’d know that’s not true. Hence my previous message.
Emira owner and completely agree with you about Lotus customer service (the worst of any make).
question for you. when the rear hatch was replaced, did Lotus send you the unpainted hatch and it had to be repainted? if so, did bodyshop have to blend the paint to the quarter panel in order to match the paint? I am having the same issue on the door and new door is ordered. but wondering if front wing/fender require to be blended to match the color?
If you watch the repairs series of videos in the workshop you’ll see
Great answer 😢
As an Elise owner in the States, I had high hopes for the Emira before launch. It ended up being heavier and not as quick as I expected and felt more like a quick Evora reskin focused more on marketing hype and built for profit than a car that delivered expected/improved performance beyond its desired peers, like Porsche. I definitely do not want an electric Lotus (so much for lightness), so I am left wanting for a newer Elise replacement that could double as a daily driver. Perhaps I'll look at a used Emira in a few years when someone else has taken the huge depreciation hit and they have addressed the new model issues. But I'm not that excited about it given the many problems people have had with them and many have already sold theirs in disappointment and moved on. Dealers are often few and far away in the states too so dependability is even more important here. Toyota reliability was the seller here and it fell short. Time will tell.
Well, hobsons choice really with the Emira being the last Proper non-electric sports car that Lotus will produce.
@@RichReviews_ Absolutely give current direction. But, I'm hopeful that if electric car sales don't materialize, many of the manufacturers will back pedal on their current course and bring some more ICE vehicles back. In the end, it is a business. If sales dramatically fall then their choice is either go out of business or give the customer what they want. Maybe just a pipe dream but at least possible.
We can live in hope! 😅
Also steering tends to follow the direction of the driver's eyes😬
It was only a few years ago a premium car was £45k, now you just get cheap plastic - £50k 4 years ago got you an basic M3/M4..........
Get yourself a Toyota fella.
Why?
@RichReviews_ It would be interesting to know if the cars currently rolling off the production line have had all these problems resolved
According to my dealer, the 23 and earlier builds need to be sorted.
I would assume they would have but that is purely an educated assumption.
Seems logical.
@RichReviews Cracked windscreen and bubbling paint are very similar to the McLaren experience. Replacing the engine cover and PPF was very good of Lotus. Whistling door is a bit of an annoyance that I hope they can fix. Dead keys are becoming a big issue with Eletres.
@RichReviews but not a given
Why can’t dealers fix things first time every time?
Because they are incompetent
They pretty much did…the aircon secondary issue could not have been diagnosed until the main issue had been resolved first.
Beautiful
What a piece of crap!
Don’t hold back!
Agreed
What chance have I, living in the one-car Far East, of getting such remedial service for my car? I think I’ll buy a local brand instead and stop all the potential headaches; or maybe wait a year or two for all the issues to be resolved?
Buy a 2024+ car and you should be fine.
No chance
Time for a road trip!
Definitely!
In NZ we can fit number plates half that size in black. Hence we do not suffer from the front sensor issues. Nice effort with the video.
Thank you.
I want a Lotus, it is just a case of 3.5 or 2.0. Not sure which one yet....
Regarding Emira power units yes but there are many other spec. Options to consider as well.
I can't believe you still think Lotus are doing a great job. This car was supposed to be a new start for Lotus, a massive improvement in build quality with the Chinese input, and you've still not got properly working climate control, and they're having another go at fixing the wind noise, which will also require realignment of the wing. This really isn't acceptable on what is now an £85k car.
I don’t think Lotus themselves have done a great job regarding initial marketing and QC, far from it, but the car itself is good and is the last opportunity to own a new proper Lotus sports car (non electric). The dealership that I am fortunate to use, though, is very good.
this would be a perfect car to add next to my 599......
Nice - great job by the dealership
Thanks
Before you do anything else with that door, get some Shin Etsu grease from a Honda dealer, and put it on the door seal rubber, as well as the rubber around the door frame on the car body. You get the grease from the parts department. Put on some nitrile gloves, then use a dab of grease on your finger and start working it into the rubber. A little goes a long way, so do it in sections. The tube is small so you may think it isn't going to be enough, but it will do both doors, both door seals on the door frame, and the boot seal with grease still left over in the tube! It causes the rubber to plump up and eliminates squeaks and wind noise. Glad your car is getting sorted out. They're worth it.
Thank you for the tip! 👌🏻
fixing things on this car is gonna break other things. be happy with what u got at a certain point
That would only be an issue if the repairs had a dependency. The few issues that still exist should not impact other parts unless the service dept. Is incompetent and my dealer has proven to be anything but.
I’m on the fence about pulling my deposit because I’m over 4 hours from a dealer. Honestly wouldn’t mind dealing with a few issues if I was local but am concerned about the cost to transport and putting on the miles to get something resolved. :(
Ask the dealer to agree to free collection/drop-off if there are warranty issues, if you buy from them. Make the sale dependant on those terms or similar. They will bill Lotus.
Someone ruined the lip finish by polishing out the factory diamond cut under clear coat which has a luster that a simpleton aftermarket polish job destroys. You also expose the raw aluminum to the elements which leads to damage. It’s like having a watch hack polish out the brushed Rolex submariner oyster bracelet. You got screwed dude. Dismantling bbs Japan’s intricate work by some backyard garage shop is TH-camr bush league.
The ‘backyard garage shop’ expert knows has probably forgotten more about air-cooled Porsches than a main dealer ‘expert’ knows in full. He’s a specialist that people bring their cars to far and wide. The LMs ‘reversing’ was something I always wanted performed as detailed in my videos and yes I fully appreciated all risks involved with the process.
Well done to Lotus. Your car looks great btw and sounds even better
Thank you.
How many miles has your car done Rich. Whatever the mileage and I'm assuming it's fairly low - these faults are totally unacceptable. Did you get a lotus courtesy car whilst it was being fixed ?
Circa 2,500 so far and yes these faults are unacceptable but it’s a new model and there are always issues with new models…especially Lotus. It’s the pain you take if you want to own the last ‘proper’ sports car model from Lotus.
Glad I bailed out of mine much earlier than you. Patience of a saint. Interested to see where these bottom out at 5 years. £25k?
💀 if they do im selling my s2000 for one
The Emira Is Back From Lotus Repairs!…The 9 issues that have Plagued our Lotus Emira have now been Repaired…but not all of them have been Properly Fixed! Today I provide a Full Update on all the Repairs and IF they have Fixed the Issues!… Have you had similar issues with your Lotus?
10 Grand for something a simple bolt extractor and new bolt would fix? The Bean Counter's sound like they worked at Boeing once.
I detail in later videos how this was resolved.
The Ulrimate driving machine, Dont make me fucking laugh
I think firstly, most would be laughing at your lack of spelling acumen.
All I see is him complaining and not doing an honest review rather just ranting.
Like BMW is the only car on the road with a touch screen... maybe figure out how to use the functionalities before you set of on a test review rant. The car also has perfectly capable voice commands that can do almost everything you complain about by speaking to it! ... Welcome to 2025 , a quarter of this century has gone by while some people still live under a rock
Huh?, sounds like you didn’t watch the video properly.
Crazy I am watching this on Christmas day 2024
We also watch TH-cam on Xmas day.
What is the basis for this? They have been out for 2 years and the cheapest one is $90k usd. Almost no depreciation at all.
There’s no way the clubsport pack came with PCCB’s and was a zero cost option.
My G20 2019 320D is better made than the newer ones and doesn't have that god awful ipad screen with no physical buttons.
What kind of engineering is this?? By a 5 year old? So if you have a problem you cant even check fuses?? WTF?
You can but you have to use the tool provided and undo the leading edge fasteners. It’s definitely a faff.
Exige allday
Lovely car. Thank you for the review.
Thank you
Love the rant on touch screen, I am forever questioning how they can be safe. I can adjust everything in my car without my eyes leaving the road. I try the same in my wife’s, with her touch screen, and I can’t even change the temp without nearly crashing! 😅 Great vid 👍
Thank you, yes they are a royal PITA and should have key functionality out back on easily assessable buttons.
Yes talk to BMW they want you to sue voice control for everything. Having tried BMW voice control, I have as fairly neutral BBC-ish accent, it cant understand me ever so does nothing, therefore useless.......... Don't get me on the safety aids, BMW had to turn them off on my car to prevent it form trying to kill me.... The one good bit, emergency brake assist turns off if its sunny or hot or cold or wet or raining..... i.e. when you need it.....
Bizarre! We found the safety aids at best to be super annoying and worst verging on dangerous.
@@RichReviews_ agree - lane assist kept trying to turn me into barriers and other cars, particularly when dark and wet and were not talking a gentle nudge here it was a fight t he steering wheel type of correction and I am fairly strong . Much weaker it would have been a nasty accident on several occasion - took it back to BMW several times to try and get this corrected. Also had a cascade failure - 70mph on the A12 screen goes blank and the drive by wire stops working - so not throttle, brakes or steering for several seconds at 70mph, thankfully early Sunday am and on a slight bank so the car followed the road until the software rebooted . There was little traffic and everyone worked around me seeing there was a problem - a busier time would have been an almighty smash BMW investigated but couldn't replicate it - there solution was to turn almost all the safety aids off permanently - I just have the low speed emergency brake assist (parking) and the blind spot indicator on - Both pretty good actually, the blind spot indicator particularly so as they have made the cars so wide now you cant glance from side mirror to side mirror while looking straight ahead. You have to turn your head away from looking forward to see the side view mirrors So beyond annoying to being and actually dangerous -- not just BMW, talking to friends with new cars from Ford, Jaguar and others each of them have had moments when the driver assist goes nuts and either tried to crash them or carried out very dangerous acts - like full emergency breaking on a curve with no vehicles in front but vehicles behind....... So basically manufacturers being forced to introduce underdeveloped solutions to meet a legal mandate. Were basically running in prototypes so they can properly develop the solutions. Having worked in the software industry the problem will be not the occasional incident now - its that not being able to regularly repeat the problem they will keep the software unfixed and build on it - each new layer of software introduces more events where this can happen increases the likelihood. The chance of it occurring becoming greater in a wider variety of conditions and so on So over several generations of development you have a potential time bomb where there is a significant chance of multiple vehicles having full cascade failures under a wide range of conditions So were back to a scenario like the introduction of Jet aircraft int he 1940's/1950's where lots of people died while they found out what they got wrong......
lotus --- don't go electric
nice vídeo
Thank you.
Thank you for a great video and review @RichReviews. Just to correct one thing, the Superport (as known in the UK) or 'Turbo Look' as it's called in America, was not created because of windowmaker concerns. It actually came about because in the mid 80's the 930 Turbo was unable to be sold by Porsche in the USA due to it not passing ever stricter emission rules. As there was still considerable demand for a Turbo look 911, Porsche created the M491 option code. This M491 option code was an expensive upgrade, in the UK costing over £10K on top of the price of a new 911, hence the small build numbers. It added the following 930 Turbo components to a 3.2 Carrera: Wider front & rear wheel arches, front & rear spoilers, larger 7x 16 front and 9x16 rear Fuchs alloys, brakes, suspension, drop links and anti roll bars.
Thank you for the info. I’d love a 930, quite miss my 993 S so it was great to get back into an air-cooled 911.
Having Daily Driven the new BMW 3 Series 320i for a Week we were well placed to provide a Review of Living with the New BMW 3 Series as a Daily Driver. There's good...and there's bad! We are interested in your thoughts...Would you buy a BMW 3 Series as a daily driver and if not...why not?
You are definitely the ideal Emira owner….forbearing and open minded.😂
I’m so glad I canceled my Emira order.😅 Such a great looking car with so much potential but terribly executed….the fixed front bonnet and low redline were probably the first red flags.😆
There are many issues where the functional/useable design could have been better but would it have produced the same overall svelte package? probably not. For all the good and bad of the Emira, at the end of the day it is Lotus' last non-electric sports car and that in itself is good enough reason to give it a try.
What a dream car.
Miuras do not have drum brakes, and there must be something wrong with this Miura’s braking system because I’ve never had trouble stopping mine. Sure, it doesn’t stop like a McLaren with carbon ceramics, but it does just fine especially considering the era it hails from.
The braking was so poor I made the assumption they must have been drum brakes but realised afterwards they are indeed disk.
@ it’s shocking to me that the brakes on this example are so horrible. Properly set up drums aren’t that bad given the context of the era they’re from
I think the actual title of this video is actually misleading. It didn't actually address the actual question at hand. Jokes aside - I did enjoy the walk through of all of these cars.
Thank you...I think! 😅
Hi, unrelated to the video but how are you getting on with your high mileage Abarth? Would love to see an update soon!
Hope to provide an update on the Abarth early in 2025 including how to repair the well known rear hatch handle issue causing the numberplate lights to fail.
There is a reason for everything. The water must flow in. No mud, no Lotus.
Boooooring. If it’s a bolt on, do it and you can always reconfigure it back to OEM.
