    Where did you get your picnic table? That's exactly what I'm looking for

    I plan kid friendly menus, but always introduce new foods multiple times. I’ve had picky eaters. I sneak veggies inside of the stuff they really like even if it is just a purée of veggie in a bread or sauce. I also make my food into a cute scene, or I place small pieces of the food in a shape. This works with my fussy kids. Also, I eat with my daycare kids for meals and I make lots of mmmmm sounds. I also use the exact same plates and utensils as they are.

    19 yrs with same rule I make 1 meal for each meal time. Not a short order cook. I typically plan to make sure there is at least 1 item that ea will ea or plan other meals throughout the day that making sure that my picky eaters at least eat something throughout the day. If they are hungry enough they will eat. I agree if there is something the group as a whole isnt fans of I'll just serve it once in awhile for a change or to retry or whenever a new kids starts I'll try it a few times again. I have never had a child become failure to thrive over any menu I offe;r matter fact kids typically eat more here and a variety here vs home.

    If they are hungry, they will eat...until they’re tweens. Then, they are willing to starve all day until you’re asleep then raid your cupboards 😂

      Amen! I have an 11 year old and she eats THE MOST RANDOM THINGS. I try to train them young, but once they are tweens/teens all bets are off! haha!

    Hi Samm
    My Daycare mess after lunch and what i have to clean during nap looks similar to yours.
    I like how you do your Sanitizing process. Here in California we dont have a sanitizing process.
    And same here during nap time I try to catch up doing everything.

    Very smart on mealtime. How often do you run into parents who want you to cater to their every need? I have a very big problem with this in my daycare.

      I have run into this, but I shut it down at the interview. I make it *VERY* clear that this is "group care" and not a nanny/child situation. I usually don't have any issue after the interview, but if I feel it's going to be an issue, I won't even enroll.
      If I have already enrolled and it's become an issue, I will usually send out a general letter to everyone (although it's technically meant for ONE family) and remind them all of my policies. If the problem persists, a face to face with the parent and possible termination will occur. It's never gotten to that point because I DO NOT CAVE. My home, my program, my policies.
      Hope that helps!

    How do you portion for a child?

    So, I'm re-organizing my daycare today and bingewatching all of your videos lol. I wanted to ask. What would you do with a child who doesn't eat fish because the parent is allergic and afraid the child would be too? Not shellfish mind you. Just like fish. I serve fish sticks in my daycare sometimes and he's 1 so he might try to grab another childs food. He has already snatched some strawberries from another childs plate. He loves them. But this parent (new mommy) is so paranoid she won't even try it to see if he likes it. I've never heard of a food allergy to fish so I'm a bit confused and worried because I'm doing fish this Monday.

      Unfortunately this is one of the tough parts of daycare. I personally would move the child to a different table or to a high chair (especially since he's still little.) I HATE separating kiddos, especially during lunch, but if mom is worried and they have not yet confirmed whether he is allergic or not, I would play it safe and separate during that meal. Hope that helps!

    Another thing is its not that hard or looks like youre not doing that much until you have some rain and cant go outside or kids are not feeling good or you have a full house and everyone wants something different
    It can be very stressful but it can fill your spirit and your heart too

      Jennifer Amador that was our whole week unfortunately. It was wet and freezing out. It definitely adds an element of surprise....never know what the day will hold. I try to do tons of gross motor inside, but nothing beats fresh air.

    I wanna start up my own home daycare with my 2 year old son and 6 month baby. How do you keep the little ones in there chairs to eat there meals (home style) ? How old do they stop being on the highchair?

    • @mommytomany5674
      @mommytomany5674  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kind of like playing "whack-a-mole"....KIDDING!!!! It's constant reminders, constant redirection and occasionally I have taken plates off the table if they are not sitting. When they park their little bottoms back on their chair, the plate comes back. Sounds harsh, but it works. And having some that are already good at sitting (like my older toddlers) helps the little ones learn.
      Usually 16 months and up are at the table.

    I do the exact same thing for meals and snacks for my kids no matter they age or what their diets are like at home w parents
    I have a food program too so those are the rules and if you dont eat ..well then you dont eat ...
    We can try again next time

    • @mommytomany5674
      @mommytomany5674  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really is the only thing that works. Once you give an inch to the kiddos, there is no going back. It's amazing how much they eat when they don't have a choice.

      I thought about doing that and in fact at the preschool I worked at we did that. I just find it easier for me to prepare meals and everyone eat the same thing. Less fighting, more variety and they get to take part in the preparation.
      Do what works for you! Thanks for watching!

    I bought the 360 cups for my littles at my daycare but the 1 yr old make them drip everywhere so I had to put those away and resort to different ones for them

    • @mommytomany5674
      @mommytomany5674  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine haven't figured out how to make them leak (thank goodness!). However, we don't walk around with them...all beverages stay at the table which helps a ton.
      For those littles that can't figure out the 360 cups, I use the nuk hard spout cups. They are old school, but work REALLY well.
      Thanks for watching!

    It is a lot you have to do. I do licensed home daycare in Southern Ontario. It is draining but also very rewarding. I was wondering are you a Early Childhood Educator? I am one. Also your question back to us care providers we gear our menu to picky eaters? I am told by the director of the home child care agency I am with that we do not have to gear towards picky eaters we serve what we serve and they can eat or not eat. That is what you said you do. I applaud you for sticking with that. i general don't gear towards pick rates but as I get to know the children in my care i look at what they do like to eat and what they don't like. Kind of like with your example with the peas if no one is eating them then I will not put them on the menu anymore. So although I don't great towards picky eaters I do get to know my kids and then serve at least one thing I know they will eat. Being a home child care provider is not easy but so rewarding and i get to have my 3 year old with me and my 9 year comes home he is with me. Looks like you have a great set up and hope you enjoy it!

      Great response! You are SO right, it is a LOT to do. It is incredibly stressful and overwhelming at time...and yet it brings me such joy and feeds my soul.
      I thing that's a great idea! I think as adults we tend to fall into the "eat this or starve" motto, but we fail to realize that WE as adults have aversions to foods...we don't all like EVERYTHING. It's a fantastic idea to observe what your group eats and then work around that. I think it helps them see that you ARE hearing them when they say they don't like something and you'll make adjustments in the future, but what you have on your plate is what we have today.

    Question: if the parent decides they want to bring their children their own lunch because the child is a picky eater how would you handle that situation.

    • @mommytomany5674
      @mommytomany5674  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! At that point, it's really not my job to tell a parent WHAT their child is going to eat for that day. If they choose to pack food, I will respect their wishes and allow them to eat what is packed. If it is a picky child, I simply will not make them another meal, but if a parent wants to give in to the pickiness, they are more than welcome to provide food for their child that day.
      Hope that helps!
