This is an extremely weird little detail I noticed but if you pause at 3:07, on the radar cone of aircraft 106, you can see "Diablo II" stenciled on the aircraft. In pretty much the same damn font as the computer game, Diablo II. And coincidentally, right around the same time as when that game was very popular and had recently released. This is one of those weird moments where my passions of fighter aviation and computer games has crossed over into some weird twilight zone moment. When I saw that on the aircraft, my brain short circuited for a moment. I don't even know for certain if it's referencing the game or something else entirely but I thought it was a weird coincidence lol.
Got the Tamiya 1/32 Black Knights kit in last week on a price steal on amazon. That will be my main build for the next winter , though most likely will build it as Hosers Tomcat during aim/aceval in Ferris camo Tomcats rule, Bugs drool
God that was one badass plane. I heard that the Navy is going to be looking for a new fleet defender that resembles this mighty bird by 2030. We might just get the Super Tomcat we've all been waiting for.
Don’t know where you heard that. The F35 is the only fighter set for production from now on. There is no need for anything better for a loooong time since nothing can compete. Before anyone smart chimes in with the SU57. We’ve already produced 875 F35s. There are currently only 3 SU57 actually able to fly, and they only use them for Air Shows lol. 10 were test models. In total only 13 have been produced, and Russia doesn’t have the economy or infrastructure to produce any more. Especially with the losing war they’ve got going on with an inferior Country lmao.
Correction. There were 17 built. 10 test and 7 in service. Let’s see how 7 SU57 fair against U.S DoD’s 450 lmao. Which by 2040 they plan on operating 2,500 of them. Maybe by 2040 Russia will have built a couple more 🤣🤣🤣
And just to add insult to injury, because I find it hilarious and forgot to include it in previous comments. Even the UK could take on Russia’s 7 SU57. Since they have 26 operating F35s. I don’t get why everyone hyped up Russia so much. They are a failing Country and have been for a long time. Their economy is complete crap and they have no infrastructure. Just because they have the “most” military equipment is what people bring up. Just because you have 1,000 tanks doesn’t mean anything if 900 of them are in various states of disarray and inoperable, and the soldiers that run them are inexperienced and undertrained. Or you have an airfield with 50 fighter jets but only 10 of them can actually fly, and the pilots are again inexperienced and don’t get to train for actual combat. That’s Russia in a nutshell.
@@SPFLDAngler He's referring to the Navy F/A-XX 6th Gen program to replace the Super Hornet by 2030. It won't resemble the Tomcat but will hopefully provide the increased speed, range and endurance that a fleet defender would need, especially in the Pacific.
I dont care what anyone thinks...i believe our best Tomcat operators in a TomcatD could take on and win any new russian jet fighter....my opinion obviously....They need to make a Stealth version of the Tomcat!!! F24
The music fit what was happening that I give you a AAA, and even though it happened eleven years ago it's still as relevant as it is today, the people who think
Wonder when this was filmed? How long did the F-14A with the underpowered (and compressor stall prone) TF30 engines remain active? I was under the impression that the F-14B with the much better GE 110 engines was phased in not long after the tomcats went into service intially. So I would've assumed by the 90s, all the active tomcats had the 110 engines.
RetroCNY, according to the book 'US Navy F-14 Tomcat Units Of Operation Iraqi Freedom' by Tony Holmes, 2005, F-14As were in service well into 2003 and 2004. Chapter 4 begins with the story of I believe 4 F-14As from VF-154 deployed aboard Kitty Hawk in February, 2003 at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). These jets focused on air-to-ground and training missions with coalition aircraft. There's a nice shot of F-14A BuNo 161293 from VF-154 Black Knights on p. 68 while flying over CV-63 below. The caption reads "March, 2003" as the date of the picture, and that 51 laser guided bombs (LGBs) were dropped by this particular aircraft against real targets during the campaign.
My dad used to work with them to back in Atsugi Japan. Those were my childhood days. I still remember seeing F-14 in the hangars just sitting there while i observe them up closely and to not touch anything like my dad told me. Back then they use to party a lot get drunk and it can be a pain when my dad gets drunk. All those beers gave him one big beer belly.
Question: at 2:01 in this video another object appears at the top of the screen. What is it? I can't make out what it is. Doesn't look like another F14.
lefthook613, I see the blurry spot you're referring to. I think it's a spot of dust/dirt on the canopy which appears blurred in the video due to the proximity of the camera. I don't think it's another aircraft.
and just think, I'm sure back when Pablo Escobar was on the scene, someone back in the 80s could probably dance to this music and make it look good... The only dance move I can think now goes with it, is called the "epileptic seizure"...
Does anybody know what year F-14As received modifications that have the same capabilities as the F-14B but retain the TF30 turbofan engines? (F-14As with ECM blisters under glove vanes and on portside nose gear, TACAN Antenna, GPS dome, UHF Antenna, and NACA gun vents)
FLY NAVY!!! ANYTIME BABY F14 the greatest ever. At the time, F14 could launch all missiles simulaniously and others, like F15, F16, + launch and wait for a hit and then launch 2, wait for a hit and then launch ..., YOU GET IT??? BTW THE AIM-54 had MORE THAN TWICE THE RANGE AND SPEED, of anything. THAT IS WHY F14 IS KING. "The enemy would be dead before they realized the threat." Finally, I always hear, but as a dog fighter. AGAIN, F14 IN A DOGFIGHT, YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD, DUMBASS. Bobby CV64

It's a good job you don't care what anybody thinks, because that's total bullshit ;-)

@Parker75452 not necessarily. Newer Russian Sukhois could be a worthy opponent. But I'd still expect the win to go to the F15EX

This fighter jet MUST return!
Agreed!
Yes, maybe a fixed-wing version for weight reduction.

Pretty sure this music was in various shop class videos watched in high school

While the later models were a better aircraft because of the new engine, the "A" model just looks right with those nozzles in back.
The Tf-30s May have been Underpowered but they Sure looked Overpowered !
Sorry, and pardon my ignorance ... but what's that UFO fluttering about the Bird at 0:30 ? 😕
Brings back memorizes seeing Brand Moshell, and Floyd. I had a great time in the squadron being apart of the 320 work center.

One sure fire way to date something as really irrelevant and from ‘a silly time back when’ is to add arcade jingles to the footage
