They extended the route of the Trolley Busses down to the trainstation in Vohwinkel several years ago. The tunnel under the rails is to low to be able to use the powerlines, so they don't use the lines in Vohwinkel. The trolley busses start to use the powerline 2-3 stops up the hill heading to Solingen.
The reason why the trolleybuses do not use the overhead lines below the Wuppertal suspension railway is because they still serve two bus stops from there that are not electrified. Until 2024, the trolleybus line ended at the suspension railway's terminus in Vohwinkel, travelled around the triangular block of houses and back to Solingen. Since the turning loop is a block of houses, the overhead lines only hang there for one direction of travel. That is why the bus drivers retract the current collectors at the ‘Vohwinkel Schwebebahn’ bus stop when they continue to Vohwinkel (train) station. When they drive to Solingen, they raise the current collectors.
When Dizzy mentioned about faults/things going wrong on passenger, and explaining yourself to passengers, it reminded me of a time many moons ago when a train I was on was held for ages by a signal fault. The driver came down the train explaining the situation to everyone, and in those days I used to smoke cigarettes. I asked him "what's the status?" and he shuddered lol. In reality I was less bothered about getting home and wondered if I had time to sneak out, get away from the platform and have a cheeky ciggie. I told him that's why I was asking and he looked relieved and said "Yeah, probably time yet. I'll give you a shout". Bad habit and all, but at least it wasn't a person whinging at him for something out outside his control.
When I was a passenger driver smoking was banned on all platforms as it still is. Id always turn a blind eye if we were being delayed in a remote platform somewhere.
@@DadRail There were open barriers at that platform fortunately, otherwise I wouldn't have asked. I skipped out into a car park with a fence and a bin where I could see the train and was level with the driver's cab. Glad I packed it in though xD
Defintely one of your best videos. Wuppertal has been on my travel bucket list for quite a while now.

@@DadRail not sure about OOC .If Dizzy was a second man before 88 , he's referred to as a 'Lost Boy'. You'll have to ask him?
