Toni M no, the term "preaching to the choir" is a phrase that describes telling something to someone who already knows/ understands or believes what you believe. In this context, the interviewer was asking kendrick how he balances making music for the people who already understand his message vs trying to make the music palatable for people who don't yet get his message but may be able to learn from it. Unfortunately the video cut there. But what he went on to say was all hip hop artists are "conscious" in their own way. They have a deep understanding of what their experience is; and reflect/project those life lessons to the world either through their music/art or even by the way they live their lives. Paraphrasing there, so I may not be 100% accurate, but that's how I took it.
