- Winter Shore fishing is usually all about the Cod. Especially when fishing in the North East coast and North Yorkshire. I take my son on a road trip to the North East and we fish a rock mark and a beach mark catching lots of fish throughout the day. When the tide is low we search for dinosaur fossils. Finding Ammonites, Belemnites and a fossilised fish. I hope this video shows you that by using different tactics and locations you can still catch many different fish from the shore in the cold of winter.

Hi. Im yorkshire born and bred. Im now in my 70's. Over 50 years I've done the boats,beaches,rivers and now carp puddles (only cause i can park at my peg) i recognise Port Mulgrave and ive done the fossils. Your video is the best ive seen and a joy to watch. , instructive and it makes me wish i could go back in time. Keep the tuition going and he'll never forget these days. Thank you.

James’s reaction to hearing you were going to look for fossils is pure gold. You make the video not really thinking about how valuable recording these moments will be to you guys many years in the future. Something most people born before the 90’s don’t have.

@@TheFishLocker Very true John- Both my wife and I have taken an active interest in both our children and they have both been to university and have good careers. My son is a champion Snooker player and I have been going to a coaching school where I was the world professional snooker coach. have been working with him since he was only 5 years old when he stood on a beer crate to reach the table. My daughter did her first degree in fine art and design I had an A level and was able to help her. She now has two degree's and a masters in English and has been a teacher. She is now doing a PHD.

I have been taking James out fishing with me since he was 1 year old. He loves it.
I love the way James is actually really interested now in the fishing and clearly enjoy the time he gets to spend with you. Its also great that you are letting him do it all (apart from the odd cast ) but thats only to make sure he gets out to where the fish are and give him a chance of catching. Brilliant.
Pretty soon I won’t even need to help him with casting. At his age he just doesn’t have the upper body strength needed. But he’s a growing lad. 👍🏻🎣
James is really growing up fast now John .Confidence is growing as fast . It is moments like this that he will treasure for ever .Enjoy every minute of this time with him as they grow miles too fast .Great video again .

As a kid I fished at Redcar, Saltburn and Whitby. There is nowhere in the world as cold as standing still on the harbour breakwater at Whitby for a few hours in February.

its crazy watching james grow , when i started watching you he was a little kid and my son was still a ki9d . now he is 13 and a grumpy heavy metal listening lad and i love it but please enjoy the last few years with your lad before he goes running for the hills

hat scorp is a long spined, has long spines on their head (which dont retract back unlike a short spined) and the gill plates underneath are fully attached. nice fishing tho john.

One of the many happy memories of teaching my Sons to fish. Trying to hold thier interest is the hardest part of it. Beach " entertainment " is perfect,like todays adventure anything to keep them " entertained and not cold. This is a beautiful showing of a father and son interacting together, having a healthy,fun and educational day out. Plus all the brownie points for giving the mother the "day off". You're an all round good guy🏴👨👦🎣🚣🏻♀️😇🏴

@@TheFishLocker he’s a great little lad, reminds me of how i got into fishing with my late uncle, once you get that first bite you bitten for life, it will be lovely to watch hime grow and see the father and son bond grow through a wonderful shared hobby.

Thanks for a great video. I used to visit Robin Hoods Bay on vacation in the late 70's when a walk on the beach could generate a whole bagfull of ammonites, belemnites and mussel fossils in 20 minutes, but I believe commercial fossil collectors have made this impossible. Sad. Thank you for putting back! Love the scorpion fish. We catch oyster toadfish in the Hudson river in NYC. Teeth in the front and in their throat for eating shellfish. Almost impossible to retrieve your hook because they swallow the bait so deep! Go James! I didn't learn to fish til I was 55, so I'm a little envious of you! P.S. buy some handwarmers/ footwarmers. They make cold weather fishing more fun!
